Rescue Me: Chlamydia

(S03E05) It's not that I didn't like this episode, but it just wasn't that eventful. I mean stuff happened, but it was a lot more set-up than anything else. And let's clear one thing up. There was no chlamydia. After last week's previews, I got the impression that we were going to have one big STD break-out. But after Mrs. Turbudy's arrest, the entire chlamydia thing ended up being some P.T.A. rumor that Sheila picked up from some of the other moms. Tommy thought he may have had it but it turned out he was just too scared to use the bathroom for fear of a burning sensation. So he held it.

Franco had a pretty big development, but that was about it. I was just disappointed that this was the episode we got before going on a two-week hiatus because of next Tuesday's holiday.

Tommy finally enlists the rest of the crew to help him move all of the furniture over to Janet's new place. The apartment is pretty empty right now. (Quick sidebar: where's Tommy's dad? They keep talking about him, but he's never around.) So Tommy is having a pretty hard time dealing with all the extra space he has right now. And then he finds one of Connor's old baseball mitts in a box. Don't need to explain how that went.

Jerry's story, just to get it out of the way, has me the least interested right now. He's sleeping with Rose now and has taken to gambling on NCAA Men's Basketball pools to try and make some extra cash. Plus Bud shows up, sees Jerry and Rose together, and as a result decides to not give Jerry the $5000 check in his pocket for Jeanie's medical costs. Jerry's story just seems to be at a standstill. It just doesn't grab me anymore. Same thing for Probie's storyline. Is he gay or isn't he? I really just don't care as long as the story is frozen the way it is. This week had the same scene as last week, with him and his roommate(?) fighting over who was or wasn't gay. It was funny once.

Maggie and Sean have broken up because of Tommy's endless insistence that them together is a bad idea. So now Sean and Maggie are both pissed at Tommy because of it. Maggie won't admit it (well... she kind of did), but of the four guys she's seeing - Sean is the one she really wants to be with. I could be wrong, but it seems clear that they'll end up back together after a bunch of bickering.

As I mentioned, Franco had a pretty big scare. Knowing full well about Franco's situation with Keela and her adoption status, Alicia took Keela away to her country home. She's convinced that Franco isn't really fit to be a father and that Keela is better off with Alicia. She knows Franco can't go to the cops either or else he'd really have to give up his daughter since he doesn't technically have guardian rights to her anymore. It's a tough situation. But I'm not sure how stable Alicia is. She said she had a daughter who died young. So she might be trying to recreate he lost child in Keela. I hope the poor kid is OK.

Back to Tommy, he got a call from Janet at one point. She seemed like she really wanted to talk about what happened last week, but the topic never came up. I feel like she may be having second thoughts about her choices. Maybe she's starting to realize that Tommy is hurting just as much as she is. Or not.

Regardless, Tommy moves forward with his plan to use Angela (Johnny's ex played by Marisa Tomei) to get back at Johnny and Janet. At first Angela said no way. But she came around because she's pretty angry that she was always Johnny's second choice. We found out that Johnny proposed to Angela only after Tommy and Janet got engaged. Johnny had been holding out the whole time. This storyline could get pretty funny if they do it right.

See what I mean though? It was a slow episode. Teddy is trying to figure out how to get sex while in jail (marriage?) and Lou seems to be recovering well. He drinks less anyway. Sheila still wants Tommy but that's nothing new. One thing I did like was the return of Jimmy and some of Tommy's other ghosts. I was starting to wonder when they'd be back. Connor was there too. After he saw his son, the episode ended with Tommy crying. He pulled over the truck and let it all out. His life really is a mess right now... could be worse than Lou's. And now we have to wait two weeks to see how he starts cleaning it up.
