I think it's actually a pretty decent choice. I wonder whether his Kirk would have the same mannerisms and interesting way of speaking as Shatner's Kirk. In other words, will he be like Ewan McGregor doing Alec Guinness in the last 3 Star Wars films? That could be interesting. Damon could certainly play that impetuousness and self-importance (especially as a younger Kirk than the TV show). Which is an interesting question-- Kirk was only supposed to be in his early 30s during the original series, so a "younger Kirk" (20s?) would be played by Matt Damon, who is 36 now.

But it's a lot easier to find a Kirk than a Spock. Finding someone who won't look silly in those ears, and can capture the essence of the character Nimoy inhabited, will be a bigger challenge (and I agree that Affleck would not be a candidate).

I may get made fun of for this, but Adrian Brody for Spock.

However, I think Star Trek should be left dead and this film should not be made. Especially in the hands of JJ "I can only do one thing" Abrams

I dunno, Akbar. When I picture Brody with pointy ears, I only see an elf, not a vulcan. He's just too pointy-faced for the role.

Fair enough but remember this is also supposed to be young Spock. Im looking past the basic physical presence and thinking of performance. A heavily weighted self loathing dual heritage in young Spock needs to be pulled off convincingly.

This might actually be a good choice; although, if the intent is to tak ethe franchise back to the beginnings, so to speak, Damon seems a little old for the part. I wonder if Damon will consider it? This wouldn't exactly be a step up career wise.

Yea, I could see this. He is a much better actor than Ben ever was. Although, Damon seems more like a Christopher Pike to me. The only issue I would have is that he's a pretty 'low talking' actor, and Shatner was this big, brash character. It would be interesting to see if they change anything about the Kirk mythos to fit Damon.

I liked the Damon/Affleck morality discussions arguments in Dogma.

Both are too old to play in Star Trek Babies though.

I like your choice of Brody Akbar, though the age of the actor shouldn't matter as much since Vulcans age differently.

I like Damon as Kirk, but would love to have Afleck in the movie...............If he wears a red shirt.

Why all the backlash against Ben Affleck. He's a great actor, although I don't think he would be good as spock -- but it was an unneccesary jab.

I say Chuck Norris would be perfect. He has the special holds, and I've seen his acting, he's a natural Vulcan-- absolutely zero emotion.

Ben Afflec, I don't think so. but, if you watch Star Gate Atlantis, the guy who plays the doctor, would make a PERFECT Montgomery Scott. Watch it sometime & see if you agree. I wish I could think of that guys name. Must be oldtimers disease. Live Long & Prosper.

Hey Chrisfinn, I actually met that actor a month ago out at a bar. Really nice guy. I went over and introduced myself (but didnt want to be a total psycho fan) but he came over to my table a few minutes later and hung out with my group.
But scottish accent aside (he is scottish) I don't see him as Scotty.
