Oh, this has "argument starter" written all over it.FOX is going to release a "best of" DVD for Buffy, The Vampire Slayer on September 5, titled "Tales of the Hellmouth." It will be a two disc set, and the first disc with contain the episodes "The Pack," "Halloween," "Passion," and "The Wish," while disc two will contain "Helpless," "Fear Itself," "Hush," and "Same Time Same Place."
OK, Keith picked his best episodes a while back. What would you put in this set that's not in here? I'm surprised the singing and dancing ep isn't on here.

"Becoming Part 1 and 2" from Season 2 would be part of any must-see Buffy collection for me.

I think "The Gift," from Season 5 was a pretty defining episode for the series, and am surprised it didn't make the cut!

Any Best of Buffy collection, by season, should include the following eps:
Season 1: The Witch, Nightmares, Prophecy Girl
Season 2: School Hard, What's My Line 1 and 2, Surprise/Innocence, Phases, Passion, Becoming 1 and 2
Season 3: The Wish, Amends, Helpless, The Zeppo, Dopplegangland, Earshot, Graduation Day 1 and 2
Season 4: Hush, The Yoko Factor, Primeval, Restless
Season 5: No Place Like Home, Family, Fool For Love, Checkpoint, The Body, Weight of the World, The Gift
Season 6: Life Serial, Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Seeing Red, Villains, Two To Go, Grave
Season 7: Selfless, Conversations With Dead People, Showtime, Dirty Girls, End of Days, Chosen
A little lengthy, but any best of DVD missing these episodes is worthless.

This is actually a pretty good set of episodes. Each of these episodes is among the best, and most of them (save Passion and Helpless) aren't heavy plot episodes that require a lot of backstory. If I had any friends who I hadn't already swayed to Buffy, I'd recommend it.
The Gift is amazing though, I actually just watched it tonight. Although I wish the DVD had the previously on for that episode, it was amazing. It's an easter egg on Season 7, but it would be excellent to have it right in front of the episode.

Im also shocked "Once more with feeling is not on the list". Id just as soon finally finish of getting all the Buffy dvd sets and have them all. Buffy was one of my first TV addicitons and im happy to have the dvds for when ever I need to see some ass kicking, dark odd humor, life lessons twisted so well into the hellmouth world, Xanders comic relief, or Spike well, being Spike.

Who needs a "best of" Buffy collection? Every single episode in the 7 season series is a classic gem. Many of the episodes don't have the same humor or emotion without being familiar with the rest of the episodes. Plus, this collection has real reflection of the show, as it includes random episodes not unique or special for any real reason. Boo on FOX for being money hungry!

Every episode of Buffy was great. Even the ones which were "below Buffy standards" (e.g.,Bad Eggs, Beer Bad) were better than most anything on TV at the time. In any case my picks for the best episodes ever are: Prophecy Girl, Becoming I and II, Homecoming, Band Candy, Doppelgangland, Earshot, Hush, Restless, Fool for Love, The Body, Once More With Feeling, Grave, Conversations With Dead People, and Chosen.

Actually, this is a wide-release of a Best Buy set with a theme of episodes relating to the Hellmouth. So, that's why you don't have the musical episode in there, though that would constitute one of the best, along with Lie to Me, Becoming Part 1 and 2, Graduation Day Part 1 and 2 and Hush.

I agree with some of the others; Becoming should be part of any "Best of..." list. I'm terrible at remembering the episode titles, but I also loved the episode where Spike returned and captured Xander and Willow. He wanted Willow to create a love spell so that he could get Drusilla back.
I just like that episode because it was the first time we got to see Spike fighting on the same side as Buffy and Angel. His conversation with Joyce where he's telling her all about Dru leaving him and her trying to cheer him up was priceless. "She left me for a Chaos Demon. A Chaos Demon!"

This is too hard a task, but if pressed, I'd insist that Tabula Rasa make it to a best-of dvd.
And they very much missed the mark by not including Once More With Feeling.
