Gadling's resident pilot explains what life in the cockpit is like

Crap! I think I missed my chance with Lisa Loeb.

Lisa LoebYou know, it's been almost four months since I interviewed Lisa Loeb for this very site, and to this day people who've read it continue to say to me the same thing: "Dude, she sounded like she was interested! Why didn't you ask her out?"

To which I always respond: "Dude, I was being a professional! How creepy would it have been, dude, to finish the interview by asking her out on a date? Pretty damn creepy. Dude."

Now, I'm starting to wonder if I should have taken a shot. At least that's what I'm thinking after reading this Orlando Sentinel interview with Loeb from last month. Turns out that, despite finding someone to spend time with at the end of her E! reality dating show #1 Single, she decided to break up with him and go back to L.A. to "concentrate on her career."

To me, it sounds more like that relationship ended badly, because she's now quoting the same therapy-speak that most single people of a certain age (and believe me, we're both of that certain age) utter to themselves: "I can't be so focused on finding somebody because that sometimes takes away from meeting new people, talking to them and living life day to day," she tells the Sentinel's pop music critic Jim Abbott. "I'm starting to feel like the way to not be exhausted by the process is to be in it. Don't wait to start your life until you meet somebody else."

Wow. Talk about sounding like a person who is resigned to her fate. I actually kinda feel bad for her. Only a little, though; she's thinking about doing a second season of #1 Single, depending on whether her fans want it or not. Hey, she may not be lucky in love, but at least she's getting paid to go out on dates.

So, Lisa, if you're reading this, drop me a line. We'll go commiserate over omelets and coffee.
