Add another science fiction show refugee to the ever-growing sanctuary known as Stargate SG-1. Morena Baccarin, who portrayed Inara Serra in the short-lived Fox series Firefly and the subsequent movie Serenity, will be joining the Sci-Fi Channel series for a number episodes this upcoming season (which begins on July 14th).
Baccarin will play Adria, the evil daughter of Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black, who becomes a regular on the series for the 10th season). According to an interview at The Scifi World, Morena really enjoyed playing the truly evil Adria and she tried to balance that cruelity with a likeability. She also reveals that she had quite a bit of trouble finding her way around the set due to contact lenses that she wore for her character.
Stargate SG-1, which premiered on Showtime back in 1997 and moved to the Sci-Fi Channel after five seasons, is currently in the record books as the longest-running, scripted, made-for-cable television series broadcast in the United States. It has become a home for wayward science fiction stars lately, especially last season when Claudia Black and Ben Browder, formerly from the series Farscape, joined the cast.

Sigh. As if recoupling the Farscape leads wasn't enough. I really would like to know who exactly watches the Stargate shows, and most importantly WHY. I suppose they're fairly reliable niche shows for Sci-Fi, but watching these SG shows is painful especially when we know Sci-Fi can put out great shows like Galactica. Methinks the same people who fund all those B-movies on Sci-Fi are responsible for keeping the SG series alive--

Tenken, I watch the Stargate shows, and Battlestar Galactica, and I think they're both great shows. I like Stargate because it has a rich setting, strong awareness of continuity, decent ongoing storylines, and a sense of humor about a lot of things, particularly the fact that it's about a bunch of military grunts wandering to different planets with different cultures and different technology. The fact that these people have been thrown in over their heads is not lost on them, and it makes for great viewing. I'm sorry that they can't be all dour and depressed about wandering through space while being hunted by crazy cyborgs because it's all old-hat to them. Stargate will always be the show people can relate to.

Hey, I'm just happy the producers at SG1 are smart enough to hire talented actors who know their way around a sci-fi set to work alongside the veterans. While the new characters obviously aren't as rich as the established ones, the actors themselves hold their own against the established cast.
More Browder and Black anywhere is always a good thing.

Here's my deal with the Stargate shows. One of them, I can stand. The film was a fairly interesting sci-fi romp, and I can certainly see how it can garner enough of a fan base to support a single spin-off show, namely SG-1. My real problem, I suppose, is with Atlantis. I don't see how it's contributing anything more than SG-1, and it's always seemed to be the ugly step child of the Stargate universe.
So does anyone here like Atlantis? That, I would love to see.
What annoys me even more is that there's potential out there for a third television series if that new Stargate film ever gets made. Since when did Stargate become a franchise with the staying power of Trek? I would rather they just stuck with SG-1 and poured as much talent as they could into that, instead of having SG-1 be merely decent and tied with cruddy siblings.

to Tenken: *raises hand*
I happen to enjoy Atlantis. I take it for what it is, mindless sci-fi action. Its a fun romp. Not every show needs to be as deep as Galactica (which I am a huge fan of)
Having Atlantis around does NOTHING to lower the quality of SG-1.

This just makes me even keener to see the next season of SG-1. However this is another nail in Firefly's coffin. The more the cast and crew get on with their lives (not that you can blame them) the harder it'll be to do something in the future.

Kevin- do you honestly think that after Joss effectivley killed the Firefly universe and story with Serenity that we will ever see anything else?
You people need to wake up and realize that Joss is a bitter fool who got mad that Firefly was cancelled and instead of using the film as an opportunity to move the story forward he said "im taking my toys home, no one else gets to play"
Think about it
-Wash is dead
-Book is dead
-The River story line is done
-The Reavers are not much of a threat anymore
All you can salvage out of the Firefly universe after Serenity is the chaos that will now exist since everyone knows how evil the alliance really is. Not much there story wise.

Gee. Could you be more specific? How about longest running Sci-Fi show with a souvenir shop featured in every third episode?
When the US gets to anything like the staying power of Doctor Who, wake me up.
@11.
Wow, never saw the Jossinator as bitter (just saw him as a man who hates his own gender), but I see your point. Disagree about the Miranda broadcast making people realise the Alliance is evil. Too many people would believe it was a fake broadcast. Too many people are invested in the current state of affairs to change their minds.

Amen to the prior comment...
Bring on Season/Series 2 (err, 28) of *Doctor Who* on the SciFi Channel, along with the new season of *Battlestar Galactica*. Now that would make my SciFi Friday.

Joss is a GOD! Was he mad they cancelled Firefly - probably and he should be - I was and still am. I'm glad that he used the movie to wrap things up - I like an ending to my story although I am sad that Wash and Book are dead. I remind myself that this is Sci-Fi. No one is ever really so dead that there isn't a way to bring them back.

Tenken,
Its funny how people love to trash sci fie shows but say nothing of all these Guilty pleasure shows as O.C, Dallas, etc...
Stargate has a rich plot line as well as very gifted actors. Furthermore, SCi fie shows is pretty much the only area where you can address serious issues without fear of being shut down (e.g first interracial kiss on TV: startrek).
That said, there is a lot of sci fi crap out there, but Stargate is not one of them.
PS: Loved farscape, babylone 5 and of course….Galactica

I LOVE the Stargate shows. I am so sick and tired of lousy reality based TV shows. Finally a great serial sci fi adventure! If you hate Stargate Tenken then why are you on this site posting? I was worried when Anderson left but I Love Ben and Claudia. I will watch anything they are in.
LONG LIVE THE STARGATES

conflict brings change and innovation and SG-1 demonstrates that every season. Normally. technological advance is through chance, accident and alliance with sympathetic personnel from the opposing forces. Dont make it so easy to overcome --more drama and plot development.

Tenken I wish to redirect that comment you made back at you with my modifications: Sigh. As if remaking BSG was not enough. Methinks the same people who fund all those F-movies on Sci-fi are resonsible for keeping the horrible BattleStar Galatice series alive--
Battlestar Galatica is sucha boring show and most of the time (from what i watched) was spent with people idly talking. Staragte is a mush better show and it doesnt get boring like BSG, in BSG they aer running away and always fighting the cylons which get dull after awhile, Stargate keeps intoducing new threats and i believe its a bit more realistic then BSG which makes it more enjoyable to watch.

I agree with Niki,
Furthermore, SG1 is a great show with a riveting story-line that I happen to find interesting and well established. Atlantis is also a good show, I dont see why people find it so unbearable, there is a good cast with a good story-line.
P.S. liked Galactica (LOVED the camera styles Used), Farscape, and Firefly, was dissapointed however with Doctor Who.

Anyone besides me notice one thing about Doctor Who? (A show which I ADORE BTW)
They only do short seasons. Yes it has had 28 seasons over many many years but how many actual stories have been told? (just the show. not counting books, etc)
I don't have an exact count but I would be willing to bet that Stargate is getting close in terms of sheer number of episodes produced.
