Daily Show correspondent Demetri Martin has signed a deal with Microsoft to appear in an upcoming campaign for the new Windows Vista system. Ten webisodes featuring Martin will play on the MSN site as part of the campaign. In September, Martin will release his new album, titled "These Are Jokes," with a 25-city stand-up tour to follow in October. Comedy Central will distribute the album and is also helping to launch the tour. Also, the comic will shoot a primetime special which is tentatively slated to air early next year. Microsoft will also be on board as a sponsor for both the tour and the upcoming television special.

Yuck. He's one of my favorite contributors to "The Daily Show", and now he's going to do something as pedestrian, crass, and boring as promoting Microsoft Windows? Bad career move! At least maybe it'll be confined to the MS web site and not actually on TV.
Also it's ironic that another "Daily Show" correspondent, John Hodgman, is starring as the "PC" in Apple's new Mac ads. Now if Microsoft had picked him, they would've looked hip and ironic and self-deprecating. Instead, they look like stuffy grown-ups desperate to appeal to the cool kids.
Martin appears to be talented enough to survive this, and he'll get a wad of Microsoft dough to compensate for the ridicule and loss of face.

I like him but I don't Martin is funny enough to convince anyone that Vista is cool or actually better in real terms than XP.

I must say this looks like an attempt to duplicate Apple's ads. Young hip guy talking about computers? The guy even looks remotely similar (not identical, but somewhat the same). I guess we are a long way away from expecting original ideas at this point. If they did it and it looks good we should do it too.
Viva La Originale!

I think he's funny - not as funny as the some of the older correspondents, but funny enough. However, this does sound like a sad attempt to recreate the apple commercials (which I LOVE, btw).

Terrible move.
How do you compete with John Hodgman - the true face of the PC! :)

I'm stoked about the dvd/cd and tour! We'll see with the commercials. WOW, am I the only bat on earth who has no clue what apple commercials have been referred to here...I should get out more. I hope to see lots of Demetri Martin in all sorts of mediums soon! He makes me laugh and wish I could see him naked, although not necessarily at the same time.
