I'll have to admit right at the start here that I have no idea what Charlie and Lola is. I mean, I know several Charlies, and I even met a Lola once (she was a showgirl), but I'd never heard of Charlie and Lola until I read this Slate piece about finding the perfect cartoon for your child. Stephen Metcalf even has a conversation with his 3 year old daughter about the show. There's also a quick history of animation, from Max Fleischer and Walt Disney to Chuck Jones and Tex Avery. Adam, are you reading this?

I have a four year old daughter and we both LOVE this show! we often talk back and forth in our british accents and it's pretty funny to hear a child so young do a perfect accent! it's one of the few cartoons out there that she will just giggle and giggle over! unlike most of the nickelodeon cartoons (except Sponge Bob!) which must be written by people who are high on something! cat-dog? angry beavers? huh?

I hadn't heard of this either, thanks for the tip. I'm defying the experts and letting my 18-month-old daughter watch a bit of TV from time to time, and it's hard to find much outside of Sesame Street I can feel okay about. I do like Kipper, a cartoon -- also British -- about a dog and his pals. The episodes are slowly paced and quiet, and not a whole lot happens. Which is pretty much what you want out of a toddler show, I think. Crap like Dragon Tales or Jay Jay the (terribly creepy) Jet Plane make me gag.

My daughter is not quite 12 months, but already loves Charlie and Lola, as do I. I hope as she gets older she will be able to learn the lessons from the show and keep them with her. She also likes Sesame Street... to be more exact, Elmo... that song is like baby crack! She doesn't pay much attention to the television when it is on, unless one of her "favorites" is on. Therefore, I can sometimes get 20 minutes of cleaning done when Charlie and Lola, Elmo, or Jack's Big Music Show (which is another one that I like as well) come on.

My daughters are 3, and they aren't very interested in this show. They like Dora the Explorer.

My son is only 6 months old, however, it is our daily ritual to watch Charlie and Lola. It is a wonderful little cartoon that really shows the love of two siblings for each other and how Charlie really helps Lola learn. I like watching it as much as my son does. (And yes, he actually watches it!) The Koala Brothers is another good show that teaches about helping one another.
