I always do this. Last night, I was watching The Fifth Element on TNT even though I own it on DVD. The profanity was edited out and it had commercial breaks, yet I kept watching it instead of putting the DVD in and watching it all the way through. (Probably because Lelu kicks ass!) I've also been known to watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? and The Lord of the Rings, even though I also own those on DVD.Does anybody else do this? What movies do you find yourself watching on TV even though you own the DVD?

I do this all the time. The Fifth Element especially. I've got a nice DVD, but still in shrink wrap. Every time I happen to pass by it on some station I can't help but watch it. The whole time I'm thinking, I could just pop in the DVD, have a better experience and probably be done 20-30mins sooner, but I don't. Odd, I know, but I can't explain it.
And yes, Lelu does kick ass, how could you not love her.

Things I will watch regularly on TV are Underworld, Steel Magnolias, The Great Escape, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Young Guns. I have all of these on DVD.

Shawshank Redemption. Every single time I flip past it, no matter where it is in the movie, I end up watching it to the end.

Movies on TV actually control what DVDs I watch. I saw Fifth Element on last night about 15 minutes in and then got up and put on the DVD.

Matrix movies. TNT is the bane (pun intended?) of my existence. They play the Matrix movies at least once a month and I'm there, watching all of them even though I own the DVDs...

I'm a chick-flick-a-holic and will do this all the time. I pick up the DVD's years later in the discount bin but I still watch them on tv as well. I actually love them for background noise while I clean, cook, and even read a book. I can look up when it's a scene I love but it's not distracting enough to keep me from doing what I'm supposed to be doing at that time.

Of course I do. The TV prompts you to watch something, whereas dvd's sit there waiting for you to make a decision to watch them. This is why there will always be a role for broadcast tv as opposed to Video on Demand services via the internet or whatever. It's how you find new shows etc. Of course a lot of the time, especially on commercial stations you'd be better off then getting the dvd out and watching whatever movie it is from that but who can be arsed?
For me it's The Great Escape, Shawshank Redemption, WarGames and Grosse Pointe Blank in particular. I've even been known to come across a movie on the way to another new programme then end up missing the programme because I end up watching the film for the nth time.

I did the same thing with Fifth Element last night, but mainly because it was in HD, so I could get a little extra visual awesomeness in trade for commercials and less swearing.

At one time, I'd always watch the broadcast copy. However, due to practices at TNT and even AMC I've mostly given up the practice of watching a broadcast version of a DVD I own, for one basic reason: THE CUTS!
Nothing so galling as to be getting into the story, when the station cuts something...

You actions should be criminal! When I download X and play it my way, even though I purchased X in it's uncomfortable format, I can be sued!

I'll do you one better.
Everytime I see Friday on TV (which they play faily often) I watch it.
It's not the same with Chris saying "you got knocked the Freak out" and yet I still watch...

The only movies that I have on DVD that I have watched on cable are Clerks and South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut. And both of those were on the late night uncensored Comedy Central block.

My wife bought me both Demolition Man and Judge Dredd on DVD in the hopes that I'd stop watching them every time I flipped past them on TNT. It didn't work. All I have to do is hear "I knew you were going to say that" or "He doesn't know how to use the three seashells?" and I drop whatever I'm doing and watch to the end of the film.

This happened to me early last week. The Italian Job was on tv but instead of watching it on tv, i grabbed my dvd and popped it in. If I own the movie I'd rather watch it unedited and make my own commercial breaks. But sometimes if I'm just clicking through and I see a favourite scene from a movie, I'll watch the scene and then keep on clicking.
