Here's a piece of advice: don't ever, ever tune into TV Land on a Saturday when you don't have anything planned. If they're playing the right show, you'll get completely sucked in to the point where the sun will go down and you'll have never gotten out of your pajamas. How do I know this? Because I've been watching the Benson marathon since about 10 AM, and have barely switched away from it since. I was going to pick up dry cleaning and go out for a nice lunch, maybe get some writing work done. But here it is, 5:00, and all I've done is laugh my ass off at one of my all-time favorite shows (one I haven't seen in many years). God, Kraus was funny. And Benson's insults towards her and Clayton were legendary, and... oh, crap. I need to go out for dinner tonight. Guess I'll actually need to leave the apartment...

Oh, thank goodness someone else has been afflicted with this problem! I haven't been able to turn it off since I woke up, and it's been keeping me from all kinds of things I *HAVE* to get done today!

I've not seen this show in twenty years or so! I used to watch this all the time when it was in syndication and I was a kid. I remember all these plots, and remember how much I hated Clayton. I wonder if they'll show the one where he and Benson get into an insult show-down.
The governor is such an endearing idiot.

I only have a passing familiarity with the show. did they ever explain how he went from being the butler to being Lt. Governor or am i confusing his character with the one he played in Soap?

I did this with the Night Court marathon they had a while. Man, I wish I would've recorded them so I could put them on tape.

The last good marathon I watched was probably 10 years ago, when Nick at Nite ran a weekend long marathon of Soap. Good God that was great. I think I only got about 5 hours sleep the entire weekend.

The "All in the Family" marathon did it for me. No one and I mean no one is funnier than Carrol O'Connor as the resident moronic racist. His idiot friend George Jefferson was pretty damned funny as well.

Well ad me to the list also. TV land definitely knows what they are doing when it comes to getting you hooked on the classics again. This weekends "BENSON" marathon helped me remember what TV sitcoms are supposed to be like.

Jamie, if I recall correctly Benson was brought in as the Butler for the Governor after the gov's wife died. Later in the series he became the state Budget director and then later the Lt. Gov. The end of the series actually had him running for Gov AGAINST his old boss. The series ended without resolving the election.

I used to love Benson back when it was first on. I think I'm one of the five peopole who saw the series finale and still wonders who won the election.
Anyway, to answer another reader question--Benson went from being the butler to the state budge director to Lt. Governor of the state.
