Ebay has decided not to go ahead with what sounds like the lamest idea for a reality show ever. Buy It Now was supposed to be a TV show that would follow families after they put items up for bid on ebay. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I mean, really, that's the idea? What, were they going to spice things up by having the people put up dirty photos or underwear or grilled cheese sandwiches with Jesus on them? I think that's the only way it would work as a show. I don't think anyone would have watched it if people were just putting up CDs and toys.Ebay backs out of ABC reality show

This idea for a show is in keeping with Ebay's strategy of marketing (and making stars of) high volume sellers on Ebay. Ebay actually has a PR Firm under contract to market its star sellers. In effect, we've already seen this show on tv in the form of "news segments" on national news casts and national news magazine shows.
Ebay can produce a web-based "Buy It Now Tv Show" on its own website (or on Yahoo) without ABC and without the production company that pitched the idea to ABC.
Also, I think Ebay has been trying to claim BUY IT NOW (or the process behind it) as a trademark (or patented process). So, having some tv production company involved in producing a "Buy It Now Tv Show" for ABC doesn't appear to be an arrangement that would be in Ebay's interests.
