That's what the British newspaper The Daily Star is reporting. It says that since the American version of the show has proven to be popular and critically acclaimed, Gervais is going to bring the British version of the show back for more episodes.I don't know though. I mean, I can picture maybe coming back for a one-shot episode or movie, but Gervais is a producer on the American version too, isn't he? He's already said he wouldn't do it again, so it would seem odd that he would do it. Nothing official on Gervais' site yet.

That would be so awesome, though I dunno where they could go with it after that perfect, everybody's-happy-and-moving-on conclusion. I've also been hoping that we might get to see a guest-starring role for either Gareth or David Brent on the US series. The thought of Gareth and Dwight teaming up blows my mind.

Interesting since they did say they were leaving the BBC to do a film. The cast would have to be totally changed though because people do find jobs. I'm thinking the series would be a bad idea.

Gervais' credit on the US version is because he owns rights to the show. I do not believe he is doing any day to day stuff. He was going to write an episode of the US version (maybe he did that already, I don't remember).

The fact of the matter is, the US office has surpassed the influence & talent of its British parent & Ricky wants a piece of it.
He's not actually that great - his episode of the simpsons was amongst the worst I've ever seen.

The problem with the Simpsons episode he did was that previously they had great individual writers then a great team of writers who would punch up an episode to be incredibly funny all the way through, nowadays they all pretty much suck.
Personally I think The Office should be left alone. His version was prefection it could have made it through a third series but it was one of those very british things in which a short number of episodes kind of said everything about the characters that needed to be said. The US one started of being pretty lame, but it is now far better than it was, albeit a totally different beast than its originator.
He should do another stand-up show before he does anything else. Animals and Politics are genius.

GB, the US office has HARDLY surpassed the influence OR talent of the British show. I like it well enough, but to say it even comes close is ridiculous.
I do agree with you on the simpsons episode, though - it just fell flat and was disappointing for what I would have expected from Gervais.

I like this idea. If the overrated Absolutely Fabulous can come back every few years, then by all means let's see some more Office.
And maybe we'll finally get some more Red Dwarf.

My guess is that someone heard that Gervais/Merchant will be writing for the US "Office" (their first ep will air next season) and mistook it for them putting the UK version back in production...besides they already have a success with their next series "Extras".

I refuse to believe this. Refuse, refuse, refuse. As much as I loved the UK version, the way they wrapped it up was beautiful. And I've always respected the decision to stop the show before it got tired.

How can any 'version' of The Office surpass the original. Gervais was at his peek when writing it and the British show proved it, it was perfection! Even though I would love to see another series I agree that the ending was brilliant and finished the show off well. I'm not as amazed by 'Extras' as I thought I would be, but hopefully Ricky has got some fab ideas up his sleeves and is going to WOW us all again.

I gotta admit, I didn't see the British version but all I know is that 'The Office' is by far THE BEST and THE FUNNIEST show I've ever seen on TV. From the acting, to the writing-PERFECTION. I laugh so hard I cry just seeing Dwight. I sent 3 emails to NBC.com requesting a Dwight Bobblehead and here they come! To be fair, I suppose I should watch the British version to compare but leave well enough alone! God, I wish I could work in an office like that! They even pronounce 'Scranton' the way it's pronounced here in my part of PA-without the 't'. Perfection

This is one of the few times that I would say DON'T BRING IT BACK.
The British Office was so good and perfect that I want them to just leave it alone. Let these episodes stand alone as the masterpieces that they are.
Thanks for the episodes Ricky, but leave them in the past.

US Office cannot surpass the UK Office. It has increased its funniness and made its own niche, but the UK Office is the greatest and will probably always be for me.

Steve Carell is the greatest comic actor to appear on tv for as long as i can remember. What a talent. I have come to enjoy the american version more too. Every time i watch a repeat i see more of the subtle nuances of the actors and laugh just as hard as i did on the first viewing.

I really hope this doesn't happen. The Office should be left alone, the way it ended was perfect. I wouldn't mind seeing new episodes of Extras though, if anything he should continue that.
