It a bit of anti-climactic news, American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has signed a record deal with Clive Davis (surprise!), who will now guide the new star's music career. The first two singles, "Do I Make You Proud?" and a cover of the Doobie Brothers classic tune, "Takin' It To The Streets."I was afraid this could happen. Just because Hicks
I still wonder what's going to happen to Katharine McPhee. Maybe her first album with contain 10 tracks, and the first 6 will all be "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."

The b-side of the single is just one of the songs from the show, which were all covers. His happens to be the song they chose to put on the "Encores" album from the Top 12. (Isn't Katharine's b-side "Think", also from the "Encores" album?) I don't expect Taylor to do lots of covers on his upcoming album, but who knows.

Each time Simon put Taylor down I voted for him about 45 times. He was the Bomb. Never have they had anyone as good as he is, other than Clay. Clay looks great with his new looks.

I dunno. I think an album full of Taylor-ized covers would be great. If the original tracks featured in the finals were any indication, a Davis-produced album with all new songs will suck as much ass as Bo Bice's album.

All I know is, I voted for Taylor from the "git-go" and he has not let me down. Something about his voice and personality. It's a great combo and he delivers quite nicely. TAYLOR ROCKS!!!! ;-)

This elderly grannie got a big kick out of watching Taylor throughout the season & I'm glad he won! I'd be glad to have his music (& his energy!) anytime.
Katherine will do just fine, I'm sure... she has a great voice & a lovely smile.

Even established recording artists in the industry produce cover albums...and most of them are incredibly successful. Michael McDonald's Motown tribute album is an example. What about Rod Stewart's album of the old standard classics?

Why is it that some people must always make negative comments about people who have achieved something ? Jealousy, perhaps ?

I dunno-I love Taylor but do not think he is what one would think should be the next American Idol..on second thought maybe he is. A good little boy who will do whatever they want, sing whatever they want. Katherine I think may be making a good move if goes into acting and is talented at it. I just do not think her music career would go very far in the long run. Sometimes our lives open a door and it takes us into an entirely different arena then we originally thought.

Taylor is cool. I really liked "Elvis" night when he came out with his funky dancing to "Jailhouse Rock" and when he sang "In the Ghetto" he really showed his true singing voice. What talent. I'm sure his first album will be great. You know they will let him throw in a little bit of his own personality on the record. Not to do so would be a shame.

From the get-go, Taylor added a zing to the show like there has never been before. His infectious personality, his ability to remain true to himself, despite the 'makeovers' the performers undergo during the show is indicative of a performer...no, make that a STAR, who will shine brilliantly for years to come.
I'm looking forward to his single release (who cares what's on the backside??) and even more so to his first cd. And a dvd showing his performance AND dancing would just be an added bonus. He never failed to make me smile.
GO "SOUL PATROL"!!!!!!

I don't care WHAT songs are in Taylor's new CD-I'll buy it! I don't see YOU up there, Bob-what are you afraid of? Everyone HAS to start somewhere and I am just thrilled this guy who really was an underdog from nowhere will take the music business by storm. If the rest of America feels that way (and they did by the way they voted or weren't you watching????) Taylor Hicks WILL be a household word more than he is now. I look forward to his long and prosperous career. Oh, and btw-I also can't wait for his concert tickets to go on sale!!!!

I watched every minute of Taylor Hicks' performances from start to finish on the Idol show and love the guy. So, I feel qualified to say that, although he is a great entertainer to watch on stage, I have reservations about him being a success at non-video singles, etc.....just listening and not seeing him.

I like both Katherine and Taylor, however I feel Taylor deserved to be the American Idol because he was original the whole time. He has a great smile and dances funky, he is unique in his own way. Katherine has a lot of talent and will do great things with time. I believe it is just Taylor's time to shine.

Taylor Hicks was my pick from the start. So he sounds alot like Michael McDonald. Michael's duet with Patti Labelle was great! Well as you can tell, I liked Michael's songs as well. It has a lot to do with attitude and his was definitely better than Katharine's. Go get them Tiger! I know I'm going to buy it!

Bob Sassone wrote this article leaving the impression that both Hicks and McPhee were releasing a CD of "covers."
They're not!
As it will be another 4 - 6 months before either Hicks or McPhee are ready to release their first CD, Clive Davis and the "greed" boys over at 19 Management are rushing out a CD single with those god awful original songs and a "cover" tune that the contestants sang during the competition.
As much as they will bitch about it, I suspect the "faithful" will hold their nose and buy it all the same.
