On the one hand, painstakingly compiling a list of those television characters who perished during the 2005-06 season shows that America is still the home of ingenuity and hard work. On the other hand, it also shows that we watch waaayyy too much television and should really be using that ingenuity and work ethic to develop alternate fuels and build cities under the sea.
What would the end of a television season be without a list of the dearly departed (Well, it would just be the end of a season. But that's besides the point)? Thanks to the wonderful Internet, we now have such a list, and it looks like the body count was pretty high this past year. Leading the pack with ten dead was 24, with Alias slightly behind at seven. In a tie with six dead each were Prison Break and, surprisingly, Veronica Mars. The Sopranos, who you'd think would have been swimming in dead bodies, only had five deaths in the season-to-date.
The complete list, including deaths in shows such as Scrubs, CSI: NY, and The Shield (poor Lem) can be found at MagnetMediaFed. The list creators welcome any additional deaths that they missed. Perhaps you should add the death of Joey Tribbiani from Joey . . . no, wait, that was just the death of Matt LeBlanc's career. Never mind.

There were countless deaths on Six Feet Under, and fittingly so, based on the name and subject of the show. But the one's of those who were main characters stung. I hated seeing the character of Nate die off... He was too cute to be put...six feet under.

PRISION BREAK had more than the 6 listed. We cannot forget the agent that was in the old well (he gave us the names to the 2 agents who killed the mom and "stepdad"). Then they killed Mr. President by giving him a massive heart attack and Ms. Vice President was sworn in as acting president. And the governor's daughter - the doctor at the prision, shot herself up with some dope and was found on her couch, overdosed and clearly blue. (Well, technically we cannot say she is dead as they had not had the ME to confirm it, but the person calling for the bus basically flat out said she was dead.) Oh, and I think it was the brother and nephew of one of the prisioners who both were shot when some deal with the prisioner was going sour.
Those are the ones I can think of right now, but if I come up with more, I will post them too. Like to see them confirm and add my deaths to their list! :-)

The count for the number that died on Veronica Mars is way off. It should actually be the TV show with the most deaths. If you include all characters even minor ones, like the bomb squad guy on Grey’s Anatomy the number should be more like 17+. Below is a more accurate list, since there were a total of 7 more people that died on the same bus that Meg Manning was on:
1. Marcos Oliveres – bus crash
2. Peter Ferrer – bus crash
3. Betina Marone – bus crash
4. Cervando Perez – bus crash
5. Rhonda Landers – bus crash
6. Bus Driver Ed Doyle – bus crash
7. Leslie Dumass, Teacher – bus crash
8. Meg Manning – Initially survived the bus crash but later died on injuries caused by the bus crash.
9. Felix Toombs – Killed by Thumper, but at first they thought Logan killed him.
10. David “Curly” Moran – Killed by Beaver to keep people from finding out who actually caused the bus crash.
11. Amelia DeLongpre – Killed by her boyfriend, who stole all her money.
12. Abel Koontz – Died of natural causes, was the father of Amelia DeLongpre.
13.Eduardo “Thumper” Orozco – Killed by the Fitzpatricks in a stadium implosion.
14. Tommy “Lucky” Dohanic – Killed by a security guard.
15. Woody Goodman – The plane he was on was blown up by Beaver
16. Cassidy “Beaver” Casablancas – Killed himself by jumping off a rooftop after killing at least 10 people throughout the season.
17. Aaron Echols – Shot by Clarence Weidmen who was ordered to do so by Duncan.
The above is confirmed deaths, below are a list of implied but not confirmed deaths:
18. Amelia DeLongpre’s boyfriend – It was implied that Clarence Weidmen killed him but not confirmed.
19+. There was at least one pilot and at least one police officer on the same plane that Woody Goodman died on.

Who could forget such a major character's death as that of Keith Scott on the WB's underdog show, "One Tree Hill"??!! He was shot by his own brother, Tree Hill Mayor Dan Scott in the aftermath of a school shooting. Everyone has now assumed it was Jimmy, the Tree Hill High student, who shot him. But Jimmy took his own life, then Dan turned the gun on his own brother, thinking it was Keith who had tried to kill him in a fire last year---when, in fact,it was Dan's OWN WIFE, Deb, who had tried to kill Dan....We OTH fans STILL have not gotten over it and hope now that OTH has been picked up by the CW for the fall, that somehow Dan will be found out and is made to pay for taking our beloved Keith!

Let's not forget the hundreds killed on 24 each week. President Palmer; Michelle and Tony; Sean Astin's character and his family; Edgar (was that really necessary?); the aide to the president who orchestrated the whole scam; numerous CTU agents and terrortist; Jack's former boss Anderson (that was kinda cold giving him the gun with no clip and then shooting him in cold blood); the poor bank manager who got caught in the crossfire. . . you can't really keep up with all of them, they're legion.
