Don't we all?Specifically, the View host wants more than the $6 million dollars that she was going to get from Miramax Books to pen her autobiography. She wants to get the same amount of money that other high-profile authors got, including Bill Clinton and Alan Greenspan, who got in the $8 to $12 million range.
Obviously, I don't pretend to know all of the details, but how much money does a person need for one project, especially when they make millions in their day job?

I don't think this is so much about $6 mill not being enough. This is about a woman as powerful in her profession as Clinton or Greenspan were in thiers (at least as and debatably more so) being paid on par with her male peers. It's about economic equality between genders not greed.

What the hell is mamaloo smoking? Barbara Walters is the biggest joke on television. The only thing more laughable than the way Babara Walters looks and talks is the stupid crap that comes out of her idiot mouth. I just had this horrible thought the other day. I'm 52 years old and I may actually die without ever knowing a world without butt-ugly Barbara Walters in it.
How much does it take to pay this clown Barbara Walters to just go the fahk away? I say we take up a collection and pay her to stay off of tv.
BTW. If you could all be trees, what kind of trees would you all be?

All of the money is toooooo much money for any of them. Most people are struggling to make ends meet with the minimum wage that this country allows grown people to fend for their families with. When is enough enough? The minimum wage should be for students (high school, even college), not for adults trying to raise children. Especially with every amusement or entertainment for children is around $35 to $40 a person to go somewhere to have "fun". This is outrageous and makes me feel that we as a people have forgotten how to be real. These so-called "stars" and their high end salaries are over the top! Of course they don't want to pay Barbara Walters what the men receive because this country is still discriminative/prejudiced!

Barbara Walters is a famous news icon. She has
earned and deserved that title in the news media.
I believe that she should ask for any amount of
money that she feels she should get.

Marion, I hope you spend as much "enthusiasm" on things relevant to you as you did on this, utterly irrelevant issue. Otherwise, seek sedation. You need it.

Way to go, Barbara! This is a woman that singlehandedly changed media forever. First woman nightly news anchor? Would you deny Jackie Robinson? Many journalists owe their eye teeth to Barbara. Um, Diane Sawyer and Katie Couric to name a few. Did you know that Barbara also supported her family and her disabled sister while moving up in TV? Barbara, you rock. Go Get 'Em Sista.

Charisma Carpenter should be cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming feature film and Katharine McPhee should be cast as Wonder Woman on Smallville for the Wonder Woman/Diani Prince guest appearance.

The star that shines so brightly over Barbara's head that so few get in this world, has done little for anyone except herself.
what a shame she didnt pour some of the "shine" over others.
Her bank account is over filled while so many are suffering. She will be asked about that in her time.

Mamaloo your logic is way off!! I'm on top of my profession as well - as a garbage collector...should I automatically make what Pres. Clinton made? Or, should I make top money for a garbage collector? A reporterf/interviewer doesnt compare to a President of the free world!!

Barbara is way over the hump,, and out of touch. Inviting Rosy just shows how far. She put a bomb in the middle of a good show that will ruin the View. Based on this she deserves about 500K for her book,,, up front. Then lets see what it does.

Frankly, if Miramax OFFERED Ms. Wawa 6 million, while they offered other historical figures more, then that is an issue. No matter how ridiculous the sum sounds to us, if others who were male got more, then she has a point. I am not a lover of Barbara's. She doesn't know how to turn off her own inner TV. Like Walter Cronkite who seemed to retire gracefully, instead of fading away, she'll probably evaporate on TV one day!!!! LOL!!!!

This money thing has sadly exploded into a terrible thing. There are so many individuals out there including Pro sports athletes that are grossly over paid. The working class , and I mean the real working class is the back bone of this country, can hardly get a 3 % raise because upper management makes the same excuse each year, especially at raise time that the company made no money. Give me a break, our intellegence is insulted all of the time and it makes me so sick to see such high salaries for so little accomplished. They are so spoiled and whine so much and GREEDY they don't even realize they are not contributing anything yet so over paid. I love this country but we are starting to look and decay , just like the Roman Empire did.

I agree with the first poster. Regardless how you feel about her, she is awfully powerful and deserves the same amount of money as a powerful man doing the same work. I think it's too much money, but I think it's too much for any of the "authors" mentioned.

I am fed up with these so-called "Stars" not taking what they are offered. I'd say $6 million is more than enough money for pretty much telling your thoughts to someone, THEM writing th ebook and YOU getting the credit for it! As others have said, most of "Us" llive paycheck to paycheck while these "Stars" get overpaid for sometimes "less than stellar" work. Stars: get over it and try to remember how good you already have it.

Gale, or is it Gayle?,
"Most people" are not making minimum wage. The median income in this country (not arithmetic average but the median - meaning half make more, half make less) is over $43,000/year.
Any adult making minimum wage has to ask themselves why they haven't moved up, not blame someone else. If you are 40 and doing the same thing you did at 18 then you are to blame for not having learned more so that you can earn more.
I'm a big fan of the free market. As for Ms. Walters, let her negotiate what she can. I think her price is too high but publishing companies should evaluate how many copies of books by these people will be sold. I would expect more books by President Clinton to sell than books by Ms. Walters and his price should therefore be higher. Think of it this way, if each other were to get $4/copy and President Clinton's books sold twice as many copies as Ms. Walters' wouldn't you expect him to make twice as much?
