Oh man, I've been patiently twiddling my thumbs for the last 3 hours until the finale aired on the West Coast, so I could finally post this. Taylor Hicks is our new American Idol, and I couldn't be happier. Well, I could be (sigh...Chris). But if I can't have Chris, then I'm happy with the Silver Fox. (I hate that nickname by the way. It makes me feel like I've got a crush on an old man. What's the opposite of being a pedophile? Is there a word for that? 'Cause I might have it.) They really took it down to the last minute too. I was biting my nails at 1 hour and 59 minutes, worried that my TiVo was about to pop up with the dreaded "Erase Now? or Save?" quandary. I felt like I was Mr. Eko on Lost, watching that damn clock. But right at the final seconds, Ryan said Taylor's name. Yes! The crazy windmill-dancing bastard pulled it off! I understand why Taylor's dad was crying, but why was David Hasselhoff?
I must say that for a drawn-out, unnecessarily long two-hour finale, this was a pretty good one. Prince! Mary J. Blige! Live! Clay Aiken! Burt Bacharach! Meatloaf! Okay, I wasn't excited about Meatloaf. What was up with that red handkerchief? Did he think that Katharine was a bull? Other than Taylor taking the cake, I think my favorite moment was the slow motion, homo-erotic hug between Ace and Chris. (Meeeeeow!) My second favorite moment was Clay Aiken surprising his superdork doppelganger by taking the stage. But I'm confused -- am I attracted to Clay's new hipster haircut or repulsed by it? Um, all of the above. My least favorite moment was having to sit through Kellie Pickler's lame dumb blonde routine for the 700th time. Dumb blondes are so two months ago. But this is not a time to talk about Clay's fashion sense or Kellie's IQ...
This is Taylor's time! GOOOOOO Taylor!!!!! SOUL PATROL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to Taylor. He really deserved it and will do well. I really felt sorry for him at the end though (i set my tivo to tape for 5 minutes longer)... he so badly wanted to jump up and dance, but his new single isn't that kind of a song. I really hate to see that because he needs something upbeat that he can do his crazy dancing to.
Personally, I like Clay's new hairstyle, but I would like him even if he were bald. What a voice, it's just too bad that his impersonator had to ruin most of the song by singing... why didn't they shut his mic off? Oh well... Clay still sounded great as usual.
Wow, Carrie Underwood... WOW is all I can say about her.
Even though the finale was drawn out by Pickler & Puck, and those dumb awards, I still enjoyed it.
I'll definitely be tuning in next year!!!

And Taylor becomes the next Rueben Studdard and Katharine becomes the next Clay Aiken. Katharine has a long, successful career ahead of her, and Taylor has a one-hit-wonder career ahead of him-if he's lucky! : )

Taylor Hicks shocks fans out of make-up.
“I got away with it despite you meddling kids,” trembled the old timer as he emerged from the Kodak Theatre. “I’m fixin’ to crack you with this here cane if you don’t move along.”
View the transformation…

I have a show to pitch you might like now to fill your Idol void. It's called "Hammer Time."
Okay so I take some mediocre hammers, and then I use them for a while to see which tool does the best on a variety of menial tasks, and then at the end I appoint one of them to the "Hammer Supreme." And then I do that for five more years, until the nail-pounding completely drowns out your desire for real entertainment.
Oh, and I'll never actually use the "Hammer Supremes" in real life, because, like I said, they're only average. I will bring them back for guest appearances, though.
God.

Taylor will be a blues singer for a long time, katherine is an eating disorder waiting to happen, and she'll be in playboy by the time she's 35. Once Taylor gets that stupid first album he has to do for Idol out of the way he can go on and do the blues, soul, and rock he was meant to do. The song they wrote for him is fucking awful, and it uses none of his natural talent as a bluesy soul singer.

I thought the show was pretty boring for the most part. I'm glad that Taylor won (he deserved it) and it was fun seeing Clay again. But overall -- yawn!

Sadly, America got it WRONG last night. If you TiVo'd the show, play it back again and just listen. Did Taylor hit any notes on key at all? I'm afraid his "career" will be very short lived. Katherine performed flawlessly and should have been the clear winner based on TALENT alone, but America loves to root for underdogs, even if it means undermining the whole premise of the show.

Who on Earth comes up with these singles that the Idols are saddled with? The only explanation I can come up with is that the singles are chosen before the season ever begins and are just assigned to the winners without regard to suitability. Good grief. I only hope Taylor will be given a second chance after that elevator music single is "dopped." (into everybody's garbage cans!)

Thank goodness Taylor get out there and show what you can do. What was with Meatloaf (ugh) a red scarf and a dress cut way too low and to short and rolled up sure hope she did not pick that little number. Can't wait for the tour. Though Clay looked great with the new style. First 30 min I could have slept through. Why did we have to watch Wolfgang Puck & Pichler just plain dumb. She can sing country so just let the girl alone already. Yes Taylor

RE: # 10 - Talent? c'mon, Kat has had a voice coach since she was 2. Surely by now she should know how to make a song her own, improvise, arrange and sing a song without dragging lyrics all over the scale. Taylor knows he can't dance but he enjoys what he does and lets the audience get a laugh (either WITH him or AT him but still a laugh). Kat is a robot, doesn't know she can't dance yet tries and tries each week, making viewers realize she is just a one dimensional performer. She looked amazing last night for the final song and winner announcement but again, the robotics of her attitude turn most people off. Flirting with the camera only gets a girl so far but flirting with the viewers is what Taylor does best. Kat will have a career someday, when she loosens up and starts enjoying what she is doing. Taylor's career was started before Idol, he has a cd, website, does interviews for radio around his home state and has made a name for himself in Alabama. Poor Kat couldn't even attract a decent crowd for her homecoming montage. It's all in the attitude and her attitude oozes conceit and entitlement. She will have a career but i don't think it will be cutting cd's of her own, more like a session singer, just sit there and sing the lyrics, no personality needed for that. She can sing but Taylor can sing AND entertain.

Except for some of the awards sections, I enjoyed the show tremendously. NO ONE has mentioned the opening clips of the judges. I thought I would wet my pants over the Simon one. Too funny!!! I actually liked the Puck & Pickler routine. Sorry Lacy, but I believe Kelly Pickler is definitely that naive and the producers milked it for all it's worth. It looked like Wolfgang Puck had a great time.
And, OMG, Paris and Al Jarreau!!!! Unfreaking believably great. For me that was the high point. I would buy a CD of the two of them performing duets together.
I am afraid Connie got it partially right. Taylor didn't really hit bad notes he just wasn't that great last night -- except for his awesome harmonica jam with the men. I think the problem was that he wasn't allowed or able to do his thing. He couldn't really cut loose because it was a timed show. AND, I think he was very, very nervous. Sorry, can't say anything bad about Taylor -- I just love the guy. He is an original and I find him charismatic. BUT, I will definitely agree with Connie on this -- I thought, for the first time, Katherine was amazing last night. I actually thought all the finalists were in incredible voice last night. I was a bit surprised that Meatloaf didn't sound like his old self, Dionne was wonderful until she hit a terrible finale note, and what the heck was up with Mary J. Blige? She was really off last night. It sounded like they had her mic on super low. I guess it goes to show you even seasoned performers can have an off night. Prince was his usual amazing little performer self.
Best part of the night for me -- Clay's doppleganger and the "hooker" blonde wigged auditioner with the razor sharp mouth. She was funny. He (doppleganger boy) was too freaky. I couldn't believe they got him to show up and allowed him to start singing. Yes, Morgan, it definitely threw Clay Aiken's performance off big time.
All in all, it has been great fun for me. Now, what will I do with the free time the end of the show has given me? I guess I can finally get to cleaning out my closets.

Mike and Connie, I completely agree with you. Taylor will get to play in some bigger bars for a while, then he'll fade while Kat goes on to have a good career.
bullyhill, whatever it is you're drinking let me know, I want some too.
I thoroughly enjoyed last night's show, good clean American variety entertainment. The Pickler bit was very funny, sorry Lacy get over it. Most of the finalists sounded better than they did during the competition. Luved seeing Pickler again, she's still really hot. The new look Clay was kinda cool to see. Kat was in excellent voice all night, Taylor was kinda spotty. Meatloaf didn't impress, but Prince did. Dionne Warwick looked good, but didn't sound all that great. All in all two hours of enjoyable entertainment.
Congratulations Taylor, enjoy it while you can.

If the voting were done based on Thursday's performances, Katahrine would have won it, hands down.
I heard a clip of Taylor on the radio this morning, and it was horrible. He has to be seen to be enjoyed at all.
His 15-minute clock has started ticking.

I think the real winner was on display on Wednesday nigh and it was Chris. He is so much more talented than either Taylor or Chris. I think this is the last time i waste my time watching Idol.
