Who would have guessed at the beginning of the season that it would have come down to Katharine and Taylor? Many people tagged Taylor as a sure thing early on, but I doubt many would have expected young Ms. McPhee to make it this far. Taylor! I keep reading that Katharine should win because she's the most marketable, because she sounds just like everyone else on the radio today.
As an old geezer whose teenage years included listening to music from the greats: Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Joanie Mitchell, Rod Stewart, Ozzie Osbourne, and of course John Lennon. And guess what, none of them sounded like anyone else, and not one of them could have won American Idol. But they, and that generation of musicians produced music that is still recognized as some of the greatest ever, and knew how to deliver a song so you felt it as much as you heard it.
So, please, don't tell me someone should win because they sound just like all the other singers who have become like cookie-cutters. This generation doesn't have any idea what they're missing.
Taylor may not be the equal of any artist I mentioned above, but he has a lot of their qualities, especially in being able to deliver a song so you feel the emotion behind it. By today's standards he is unique, and I think today's music really needs more unique artists. That's why I will be voting for him tonight.

Taylor has no voice range. The show is so rigged. He's not versatile, and he is nowhere the singer that Katherine is. Remember, this is the super bowl of America top vocalists. In all honesty, how could anyone choose Taylor over Kat?
Something was wrong with Kat tonight. It was obvious right from the start. She looked like she had been crying, or she was ill. It was noticable that she did not have her eyes all done up, and her hair wasn't stunning, as it usually is. Her gray dress was too tight and not flattering, and her Over the Rainbow song wasn't done as well as it was the last time. She just wasn't herself! I know what she's done all season, so tonight didn't change my opinion that she's the best of the best. But something had to have happened before the show. It was obvious!!!!

I just don't get this Taylor thing???? His voice is so..... toneless. His appearance also is a major turn-off. If that wasn't enough, he rolls his eyes back like he's autistic. (Retarded) I think the inbreeding of the good ole' homegrown boy from good stock is a little too obvious. He may be able to amuse people, but it is just a way to cover for his inability to sing. I thought Idol was about singing talent! I can't imagine listening to this voice on the radio and enjoying it.

Taylor IS refreshing! However, "they" have tried to put him into a box and he has not been himself. Let Taylor out and watch him fly!!!

There is no contest between Taylor and Kat as far as voice goes. Taylor has more stage presence but Kat can learn that...he'll never acquire her voice. Go Kat!

Right after the show I switched to Country Music Awards and there was Carrie Underwood looking gorgeous and singing fab and winning awards. You have to see the parallel between her and Katherine! Twenty one is soooo young but you can mold someone who has been given the gift of beautiful voice like hers. I am doing my best to get my votes in for Katherine but by the end of the show I knew Taylor Hicks would be the next winner. I can just see his albums flying off the shelves especially if he wears that hideous purple jacket on the cover! So much for this year's show-I hope a rocker rules next season. I look forward to "Rock Star Supernova" this summer as all the contestants and winner JD Fortune were awesome performers with great voices-where are they when Idol holds auditions? Yes, Soul Patrol it looks like you got a real "WINNER!"

Taylor will win the whole shebang tomorrow night. i have a suspicion he'll wind up like Harry Connick, Jr.--a lot of fans, but not a superstar. Katherine will get a record deal out of this from somewhere. She's too good not to, but i don't think she'll make splash any bigger than kelly Clarkson has.
Just my $ .02.

For all of you tone deaf people who think Taylor has no voice range and is toneless!!! Obviously, you know nothing about music...period!! I am a professional guitar player and vocalist, and Taylor sings with conviction, and from the heart....great range....great soul....and is definitely an excellent vocalist....Kat on the other hand....good vocalist, but poses for the camera like she's on playboy....too plastic for me....her voice is a dime a dozen!!
GO TAYLOR!!!

I think those that believe Kat is better than Taylor because of his voice probably only like female ballad or pop singers and never heard a real man sing a song.

Is anyone even the BIt Suspicious that the So called Song that was chosen For Katherine was a LOUSY song?n Taylors Song was not that much better BUt was somewhat a better performing song. I have a feeling that this years show was somehow manipulated the last few episodes. By far Kat has a Much better voice than Taylor. She Did songs week after week that Chalenged Her. I didnt see that with any other contestant. They sang pretty much the same thing every week. She at least tried to show me that she was versatile. None of the others even attempted to try songs that werent out of their singing style or comfort zone. I give Katherine alot of credit and even more at the end for singing that awful song they chose for her at the end.

I really did not like the entire finale, BUT Taylor is CLEARLY more talented than McPhee. "Legs & Cleavage" can only take you so far. He should easily win if it's truly not rigged.

I think that the show has been rigged for some time now. I think it was unfair that Katherine had to sing an Elvis song with all the boys. You never see the guys having to do a Dolly Parton evening. It is biased. Also , Paula so obviously loves all the males. She finds it very hard to say anything nice about the female singers especially Katherine. Katherine my be slightly conceited but she does have a great voice. Taylor on the other hand does not have a great singing voice but possesses charisma .I think that two of his songs this evening were awful to listen to.It was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. He should stick to singing in bars and playing the harmonica. I think that in the end katherine will still sell far more records than Taylor.

I am repulsed by comment #4 by "dazed and confused", referring to Taylor as an "autistic" or "Retarded". I wonder what the ADA has to say about this. These are unkind words, not only to Taylor but to refer to autistic people as being "retarded".
Please remove this person's comment. Thank-you!

Well, here we go again, I am really wondering if this is rigged..
I wanted Chris but he is not as manipulatable.
is that a word?
Taylor is what we need but no matter what Kat is by far the singer with the most range!

Yes, Katherine has a lovely voice. Yes, she is very pretty. Yes, she seems sweet. Yes she is marketable. And she is just like every other pretty-faced, pretty-voiced carbon copy barbie doll that the series has pumped out since day one. If this show is really about music (as opposed to a Miss America Apple Pie contest), then Taylor should win. He also sweet, and cute and has a nice voice. But he has more than that - a personality, a presence, a style all his own, and an entertaining showmanship like no one ever has on this venue. Regardless - both will have successful careers. Congrats to both.
