(S06E11) It's probably not too often that an actor comes up with a plotline idea for his own character that is not only successful in keeping people interested in the show, puts his tv self in harm's way, and it's a good thing. For those of you waiting to see what would come from Vito's "situation," let's just say, this was what you've been waiting for this whole season. It amazes me to think back to how long ago it was in real time to when Vito was seen by Finn on the construction site, but it's all good now.
If there was anything that this show brought even more to life, it was the "things that irk Tony." We open up to Carm giving AJ the business because he was apparently fired from his job at Blockbuster - three weeks ago - and has somehow been going on $1000 nights hanging out with Hernan and his pals. Outside of that, Vito tracks down Tony at the mall to ask if he can "buy back in" to the family. Tony does more or less what you'd expect, snubbing him and throwing out some insults in the process. Something makes me wonder, though, whether or not Vito would have appealed to Tony's good side had he not brought his brother along for "protection." Between that situation, and the fact that Phil Leotardo and his hairstyled pal continue to drive the Jersey boss mad, it was enough to cause problems that will be felt for awhile.
Vito somehow decides that getting his whole family together and telling his kids that he works for the CIA and might have to go away again for a little while is a good idea. Of course, that was just one of the few steps that would be his undoing. Although, for a moment, his wife seemed like she appreciated the effort he made. Calling one of the boys and seeing if he can get a little more help working his way back into the business was the issue, though. It was pretty clear that he got sold down the river for $20k. It's not exactly thirty pieces of silver, but don't be surprised to see that guy killing himself, or being killed, should anyone ever find out that he sold Vito out to the New York crew. Not that the boys wanted to protect Vito, but with the killing of one of his murderers by Carlo and Sil, trouble has been stirred up.
The promos for next week talked a lot about the family being gone, and having issues. Are we looking at all-out war between New York and New Jersey? Now that Tony's had a little bit of a taste for what he used to be up to - or perhaps just the stripper did - and he's being as raw with his kid as his father (and so on) was with him, things are-a-changin'.
I can't help but think that the constant rehashing of Ade's death means something. I mean, Silvio couldn't have messed that up, could he? Either that, or they're going to find her body. Carm is going to knock down her spec house and start over, what are the odds the girl is somewhere in the foundation? Did you notice that our friend the FBI agent was the cop in France in Carm's dream that was telling her to tell Ade that she was dead? Gotta love that linkage.
AJ might actually grow up, although it took a football helmet through the windshield of his XTERRA to make a point. With Meadow thinking of moving out to California to be with Finn, Carmela wanting to re-do her spec house, and a couple of murders between the local crews, something's got to give. Looks like we're gonna see Julianna Margulies yet again when the season finale rolls up two weeks from tonight, wonder who she'll be involved with ... though I have my suspicions.
Anyone expecting more caskets to need to be ordered when this season comes to a close?

Tom, it's not only possible, but perhaps even probable that Sil did not wack Ade, after all we never did get to see him actually doing it, right? If I remember well, Ade was pleading for her life when Sil was seen moving towards the camera with the piece in his hand, two shots were heard, but the actual execution was not shown, Sil being Sil (he seems to have an alter ego sort of soft spot when it comes to the ladies, not including the POAs at the Bing ) he may have set her up somewhere else, maybe South Jersey where nobody knows her, Ade would had been more than glad to get out of Dodge (actually Newark) since Chris made his feelings towards her (after she spilled the beans to him) crystal clear (literally.)
Anyway, did she, or did she not look good in her Parisian outfit? Man the chick is hot, now that Joey has been cancelled, I would not mind a bit seen Drea D doing something else, I've read elsewhere that her contract called for Ade to be seen two more times in the series, so now we're down to one left, hopefuly not just in a dream sequence, not that dreaming about her is a problem...but hey, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Ade IS dead--reference the DVD for last season, and Drea's own comments on other sites, online.
In the promo, 3 young men are looking at AJ with some hostility. Could my dream come true to see AJ get his butt kicked?

I don't think the mook who took the 20k from vito had anything to do with Phil finding him.
Phil said he got a vibe from his sister that she had seen Vito, he probably just kept an eye on her and then followed Vito back to the hotel.

You might just be right, Chris - the reason I really thought they were connected was that when they find out that Vito got whacked, that someone (can't remember off the top of my head if it was Carlo or not) "I wish I borrowed money from the guy." It all just seemed too convenient.

Great episode, feel like I've been waiting for this one forever. But now, here's my question: where did Carlo come from? I don't remember ever seeing him until this season. Also, a few episodes back, Tony says to Carlo that they both know Vito hasn't been the first gay guy they knew. Was he insinuating that Carlo is also gay? And is that why he flipped when Dom was cracking jokes at his expense in last night's episode?

This "Ade is alive" thing is the most inane piece of stupidity on all the Internet. Sil does not have a soft spot for Rats. That is the one unforgiveable thing. The reason Ade is brought up is that Carmella is going to make an ass of herself (or worse) by prying into it. I rewatched episode 10 yesterday and noticed something ominous. When Tony tells Carm to give up on the spec house and she storms out into the bathroom, the commerical on the TV is for "Orange Aid" floor cleaner. Oranges on the Sopranos always foretell death. And if you think I'm making this up, let me just point out that they went to the trouble of making a fake commercial instead of just having a regular commercial on the screen. And then last night the Eifel tower acted as a beacon like the one in Tony's dream. Something is rotten in Caldwell.

Fran - there'll be 8 more episodes coming up in 2007. Filming starts, I believe, sometime in June, from what Edie Falco was saying on TV the other night.
Good call on the beacon, Ed. Did catch that, but it kind of just stuck in the back of my head, kinda like Phil coming out of the closet to oversee the killing of Vito.

Finally, an episode that didn't have me going for ice cream mid-scene (although enough with all the wasted minutes on dreams and Parisian scenery). If this keeps up maybe I will lose a few pounds and not cringe everytime I open my Comcast bill.

If oranges = death on the _Sopranos_, then it seems like a small leap to think aid = Ade, i.e. "Orange Aid" = "Dead Ade." The commercial could simply be a reminder to Tony (and all of us) that Ade is dead; she has, to some degree, haunted the show all season. She sure as heck is haunting Carm. The creation of this vibe is more consistent with the show than to think we're being provided with clues so that we can predict upcoming shows. That's what one of the things I like about the show--it is usually pretty difficult to predict what'll happen, but when something does happen, we realize that it was inevitable. Take, for instance, Vito's demise. Now that he's dead, it seems to me that I was a putz to think that he was somehow going to survive the season. He had to die.
I'm not going to make any predictions, but I am interested to see how two plotlines are going to work themselves out. First, it seems as if Tony is going "tough love" on AJ. Isn't giving him a construction job perhaps an entree into the business? What else is there for Tony to do to help AJ grow up but to bring him into his crew. AJ is such a punk, though, that he might not survive this world. Really strange timing, too, to make AJ work construction, seeing how Vito worked construction and just got whacked. Second, I want to see how the Ade thing works out next week before the show goes on hiatus. Tony's crew killed a made man, so Phil is going to have to take action. Phil has had Christopher in his sights for a while, so knocking him off might not be out of the question. Having Christopher gone would also help Tony out, especially since it seems that the consensus is that Christopher killed Ade. If Christopher is gone, then questions about Ade's murder might end. In addition, if Christopher is gone, then there will be no connection between Tony and the murder of the Mayor of Munchkinland. Might also open up a chance for AJ to get more involved in the business. This is probably to easy and obvious of a solution for the writers, though.

The very last scene with the photographer saying "I know this guy" then pulling out the photo of thin Vito for 'Thin City' kind of jangled oddly with the show- like it means something. I just can't seem to figure out what it means, like having it show up that Vito's posed for porn or something.

Tom- Julianna Margulies' charachter is for sure getting hooked up with Christofer.
Also as far as the oranges, thats really more of a Godfather thing, that Sopranos pays homage to. See the connection on the Sopranos of eggs and death. But I'm sure it meant something and yo may be right on it.

Since when do "oranges" symbolize death on this show? Am I forgetting something important? It's been so long since I've watched episodes from previous seasons...

The reason Ade keeps coming back is that Carmela is increasingly waking up to the fact that Tony had her killed and Jackie Jr. as well. She is about to reconsider her place in all of this. Sopranos joined the list of classic tv shows that jump the shark when cast members go to Paris

I was confused about the end of last night's show as well. They were saying in 2 weeks was the last show of the year???? So that is ot the end of the Sopranos?? This is not the last season then??? Or the shows in 2007 (that Tom mentioned earlier) are part of this season??? I had the intentions that these were it?? Edie Falco is on "The View" sometime this week to talk about the show.

Jen (# 17) this IS the last season and YES, it has been divided in two, the episode that will be shown in two weeks (June 4) is the last of the first part of this final season, the second part of the season will be shown in 2007.

I believe the reason they showed the thin Vito picture was to honor his passing and has no significance. That was a good call about the beacon that Tony saw in dream and the Eiffel tower. I assumed Tony's was saying "here is the way"? They were explicit Chris didnt kill Ade and showed Sil, plus Chris has barely been seen past 2 weeks so doubt they would kill him off. Peresonally I think they are gonna "whack" Phil.

I still think (some agree)that all of it is in 'The salesman's head" when Tony was in the coma. They went pretty far with the character and then made him have althimers??? That may be the real "Tony" and EVERYTHING is in his mind. Not in the mafia or any of the others??? Nobody died. In the "dream sequences" while he was in the coma it was not Carmella's voice. I hope this is not how it ends up...trust me!!! lol The character(Brian I think his name was) is just sick and imagining all this in his mind. Maybe they can make it Chris is really a movie producer, Sil might just own a resturant? etc. I'm just throwing this out there. don't ya think Tony recovered very quick? No brain damage, wheelchair & then he beat up the driver who is built like the "HULK???" lol
