(S01E11) It's getting harder and harder to watch this show without feeling more contempt for Bill Henrickson. He is a hypocrite to the nth degree--he fancies himself as a pious and moral man who wants to become a benefactor to others, but he also is a lying sack of s**t who can't deal with the truth about himself.
He gets all gooey over being invited to become a member of the Salt Lake Leadership League, where it's nothing more than a club of backslappers and gladhanders who help each others' businesses get some breaks. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) However, no matter how hard Bill tries to convince his friends and families that his membership will be a good thing, he learns that his polygamist lifestyle will only bring unwanted scrutiny and shame to himself and his families. He then sheepishly pulls out of the running after watching an old tape of himself speaking of the evils of the compound and polygamy. A hypocrite to the nth degree!
The episode centered around the arrangement of the Henrickson will and who would get each other's children if there was a tragedy. Barb, Nicki, and Margene kept coming up with pretty ghoulish scenarios as to who goes with who if one or more of them died along with Bill. Nicki was being extremely petulant the entire time, and she "threatened" both Margene and Barb that if she were to become the primary maternal figure in all of the kids' lives, she would bring them all back to the compound to be raised. It seems that Nicki is not sure of her place in the Henrickson clan, and there may be a time where she may just get up and leave for the compound.
Bill also is weaving his way into the Juniper Creek council, and basically bought old man Ernest Holloway out, but Ernest suffered some payback from Roman Grant's henchmen in the process, necessitating a move to Tucson with his wives. Although Bill may now have a seat on this council, who knows how much influence he'll be able to wield and somehow overtake Roman. There's a lot of bad blood between these two over a number of years, so this battle is going to get a lot nastier.
The kids also are having a rough go, especially Ben and Sarah. Ben is dealing with his recent loss of virginity and all the issues surrounding it, and Nicki is not making things better for him by practically humiliating him in front of his girlfriend. Sarah and her friend Heather end up finding out quite a bit about Rhonda, Roman's 15-year-old bride-to-be, and what a conniving person she is. The scene where she eavesdrops on Barb's conversation with the Utah Mother of the Year representative speaks volumes, and you can bet that information is going straight back to Roman.
To top things off, Margene reveals she is pregnant, and Nicki has a look of genuine shock and (possibly) fear on her face. Could it be her status as the number 2 wife is in jeopardy?
Judging from the scenes from the season finale (to screen in two weeks), it looks like the Henrickson family secret will be revealed in public, and the battle between Bill and Roman will reach a breaking point. We'll see what happens in two weeks.

I thought it was intersting as well that Bill's assistant, who has been nosing around, finally got her proof that Bill and Don are polygamists.

Also interesting was the exchange between Bill and Don about if Bill, Barb and Nicki were to die, would Don and his wives take their kids. Why did Bill marry Margene?

Well, I think Bill's business partner put it well, it's a life that requires sacrifices which apparently Bill, who seems to be tripping over his ego, is rather slow in admitting he has to make. Excuse me but when he came into his office to see his slimy employee with her hands on a folder and obviously putting something in her back pocket why didn't he confront her?!?!? He is so busy spreading himself thin that he isn't taking care of business. Not to mention Barb, who's ego just thought she'd be riding on a float and symbolically sticking it to her mother & sister. What part of being discrete did she not get? She used to lecture Margene about that very thing with the neighbor & here she is finding out there are speeches, appearances, etc. & she says that's just fine. Pretty selfish. And the kids are being left way too much on their own to deal w/ all of it. Rhonda should be with an adult at all times to watch her, she's scary. Nicki's living the principle would carry more weight if there wern't the fact of her little shopping spree. Bill is charging ahead w/ taking on Roman stepping over the casualties he creates on the way which don't seem to deter him much in his quest. Roman's a snake but Bill needs to step back & think things out a little better. With all those egos pilling up everybody's going to do some major tripping. Fascinating show :)
