There are just so many hours in a week, and it's getting harder and harder to commit to yet another TV show. And with the announcements this week of all the new shows that the networks will have for us in the fall, I think it's time to give up on certain shows that just aren't doing it for me anymore.I've already decided to give up on American Idol, so that's one I won't have to worry about. West Wing and Alias are already gone, so that's a load off my mind. I also think I'm going to stop watching ER. I think I told you earlier this year that I was going to keep watching it, even if it has gotten boring, because I had already invested 10 years in it. But I just might be through with it. Of course, if Clooney or Marguiles comes back to the show, or they somehow ressurect Mark Greene or Dr. Romano, I might change my mind.
Law and Order (and to a certain extent, Law and Order: SVU) are way too "ripped from the headlines" now for my liking, so they're probably gone from my schedule. Survivor? Eh. I enjoyed this season, but unless they change it completely, it's over for me.
So what about you? Are there any shows that you've just gotten tired of and don't want to watch anymore, or shows that you want to stop watching to make room for something new that looks promising in the upfronts this week?

I have no idea how to handle Thursdays at 9. We're going to have Studio 60, Grey's, CSI:, and The OC... unless FOX moves it. I can't figure out what to do.

Well, Everwood has been taken away from me, so I think I will actually follow through on my half-hearted vow to give up Gilmore Girls and just stay away from the new CW entirely.

Fine, but when the radical Islamic birds start dropping bombs down your chimney because you didn't watch the news, don't come complaining to us...

I think I'm giving up on Family Guy. It's just not funny anymore. So I'll just stick to PTI, What not to Wear, the Simpsons, the Office, and maybe Nashville Star. Depends on who's hosting next year.

Very good question. I dropped "Desperate Housewives" a couple of months ago--can that count? Also, "Gilmore Girls" is a probable drop...I didn't like most of this season (outisde of Lane's wedding). Characters I grew to dislike doing stupid things in annoying ways. And I've been watching since it premiered. And it's got nothing to do with the Palladinos leaving.
Beyond that--let's play "What's stacked up on my Tivo?" 5 "Everybody Loves Chris" episodes, 4 "Two and a Half Men" -- but those are good to have around when I need a laugh and I'm out of "Daily Shows" or "Colbert". 4 "Smallville"s...hmmmm. 3 "House"s, but that show's great, I just can't eat while it's on, so they pile up a little :-)
"Everwood", "West Wing": Cancelled. That just leaves "Prison Break", "Lost", "The Office", "Family Guy", and cable shows like "The Sopranos" and "Battlestar Galactica" in my season passes. And those are all Keepers.
I have no reality shows or procedurals to get rid of, since I don't watch any.

I'm giving up CSI and CSI:Miami.
And it's quite possible I might give up NCIS.

I still haven't watched the last three episodes of Gilmore Girls from this season. With a little time apart, I may give it a shot this year.
If Mark Harmon is gone from NCIS, I will be annoyed and skeptical, but I doubt he's gone.
I sorta watch the CSIs, Criminal Minds and ER, so it will be up to them to hook me as a regular viewer next year. Ditto Bones and House (the latter brilliantly acted yet formulaic).

I may give up on Thief. I think I keep watching it because I'm hoping it'll turn into Heist while I'm not looking. Gilmore Girls is also a candidate, but I can't help but want to know what's going to happen next.

The purge of TV shows started this year already. Already gone: The OC, Desperate Housewives, Amazing Race, American Dad (though I'm embarassed to say I watched this in the first place!), the Apprentice, NUMB3Rs, and - yes - Grey's Anatomy (it didn't get bad or anything, it just took me that long to realize that it wasn't that good in the first place... you'll all come around as well).
The only sure bets to remain on my DVR list are: Lost, 24, Prison Break, Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Simpsons, Sopranos, The Office, Two and a Half Men, Survivor, Daily Show, Colbert Report, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, Everybody Hates Chris, American Idol, and Baseball Tonight.

I have two categories of televisions shows: those I really care about and follow throughout the television season, and those I like and watch when the others are repeats. That way I aways have something to watch in the summer.

Would it be ok with you if they brought back Dr. Romano, only to be decapitated by another helicopter?
I'm still banking on him being done in by a helicopter in this season of 24 btw :)

Mmm... I guess i'm droping Smallville, I already gave up on that by half last season just to cathc up after the finale, but I think i'm not catching up at all...
I also already dropped Desperate Housewives and Gilmore Girls... I'll try to catch up with those before next season... But if I can't catch up or I don't "feel" any of the shows, I guest the drop is final.
