(S06E10) If there is one thing that this show is consistent about, it's that the characters are almost always underhanded and working an angle. Vito's looking to have some love in his life, but he doesn't want to have to work for his money. Janice is out for Janice. Tony's boredom from last week has flowed over into this week's episode, and he's putting the screws to Carmela by not really helping her with her spec house. Hell, Johnny Sack from prison is working an angle to get some cash through Tony, and he doesn't want Phil involved. All shockers, I'm sure.
The other big question is to whether more - or less - people have gone to therapy since this show has been on the air. I mean, if it's cool for big time mob bosses (oh, wait, waste management employees) to go to therapy, then it has to be cool for lawyers, technical writers, call center personnel, and us bloggers, right?
With the screws being put to Johnny while he's in the can, er, the slammer, he's making quick decisions with regard to the cut that Tony is going to take with the New Orleans thing, the sale of his house to Janice Soprano, and what he'll give up so he can cop a plea. Man, when you plead guilty and still get 15 years plus you lose like $4 million + of your $5 million something in overall net worth, that's just harsh. And don't those government guys work fast, snagging the Maserati that Christopher bought from Ginny for $25k from his illegal parking spot on the Hudson. Do we expect any random evidence to come out of that vehicle before it gets auctioned? I'm hoping not, as it'd be a random plot line to go down, but you never know.
One of the other things I caught was the cuts that were used in this week's episode being either a) humorous or b) obnoxious. Okay, maybe it was both. I mean, showing Bobby's train churning along and going into a tunnel just seconds after Vito and Jim get together in bed. There were more, but that's what stuck out most to me. I was honestly surprised at Vito's decision to walk from his comfy spot in New Hampshire, but I guess the work was getting to him. But more shocking than that was his decision to drive back to Jersey, where nothing good can come of it, which he has to know. The car accident, shortly after he takes a swig just as a State Trooper passes in front of him, was an added twist that again, might come back to bite him, but could just be a casualty of the show.
With Bobby getting hit in the eye with shrapnel, just inches from losing his life, you'd have thought Janice would be more concerned about things. Of course not, she's more concerned about what kind of carpeting she should put in the Sacrimoni house, or at least what she "can afford" right now. Tony is clearly pissed at Bobby, even more so than I had originally thought, because he only "helped" out Bobby and Janice because it was convenient to do. He really doesn't seem like he would have cared if Bobby had died, but we may see some departures from other characters in the next few episodes or next season. With Vito showing back up on the scene, Paulie getting a form of cancer he thinks is taken care of, and Christopher having fallen on hard times with regard to heroin that one time, there's plenty of opportunity.
What I'm looking for next week: to see if the New York crew drops the fact that Johnny said he was associated with La Cosa Nostra, if Ginny becomes more of a wreck, and if Carmela decides to go looking into what really happened with the inspector and her spec house. We didn't get to see AJ at all this week, but he's at least in next week's previews, so maybe there will be some more ideas about what kind of job he can get. As for Meadow, if she isn't getting deep sixed by Fin, then I'm not sure what's going on. Sure, it could be cold feet, but after he had to rat out Vito to the boys, he seems to have changed a bit. It'll be interesting to see if Fin and Vito bump into one another next week, as that probably wouldn't end well.

Vito probably headed back to NJ to scare up some cash. Remember in episode 3 he had $400K in his hands. I'm sure he hid a nice chunk of that in some good spots.

anyone who thinks that these episodes are boring obviously doesnt get the point of the show. Its the human interaction, the grey area of personalities you cant love or hate, its not about mob killings. theres tension, excitement, truth, you never know whatll happen next and you cant wait to find out. these ladt few, have been excellent shows

Boring Episode. But I have a feeling that this is just the build-up to a season finale when everything comes together.
The great thing about doing a show like this on HBO is that you can go deep into a charactor, even with such a large cast. So although it has been kind of slow the past few weeks, I am sure there will be a huge payoff and all of this talk will be moot.

Another outstanding episode. Each turn leads us to question, what's next for each character. Just when we think we have a certain plot figured out, a new twist is thrown in. The beauty of this show is that Chase does not take us down a predictable and definitve path. Just like real life, unforseen events happen and reshape our destiny. Not knowing the outcome makes us tune in each week for some finality, only to be left wanting more. Sure it would be great if it all came together with the shocking demise of characters we have grown to like or hate. But then what would we have to look forward to on the following Sunday night?

these episodes are boring, but thats not necessarily a good thing. not every show can be 24 and i realize that, but im just saying, not much happens. things go on, the stories and plots become more complicated but theres not much action. i long for season 2.

I think we will see tony realize he is really Kevin Finnerty, who is James Gandolfini's real life stunt guy.(if you remember when the monks slapped tony, and he fell over the baggage cart, the one that took the fall was kevin finnerty. i think in the last episode tony will really wake up from the coma, these episodes were all a dream sequence, and he realizes he is a nobody, and everyone will gather around his bed and he will say, there is no place like the bing, there is no place like the bing, and his real wife, who is julianne margolis is by his side, and paulie is the janitor, mopping the floor up. and the 3 monks are there with a bialy wrapped in tin foil. but due to his memory loss he cant remember if he left the oven on or off, so he calls the nurse in, who is really carmella, she tells everyone they have to leave visiting hours are over, and he hops up on tony, and pleasures him back into the coma

I would be fine with the glacial pace of the show if there weren't just two shows left until January. Give us something to make us say, Wow. Anything. Is any of this going to pay off in the last two. I sure hope so.
And although I agree with his opinions, it appears as though David Chase has taken this season to espouse his social and political beliefs, what with the gay storyline and Katrina themes. That's all well and good and again I'm as liberal an elistist as the next guy, but up until now, The Sopranos lived in their own little world and we liked it that way.

What's funny is that I'm not as liberal as the next guy, but the politcal asides have been done in a pretty entertaining way, so I don't mind them. "Helluva job you're doing there, Brownie" was one of my favorite lines of the year.

just got to seeing this last night and wanted to comment on the "glacial pace." it's true on the one hand, but character development has always been one of the main, if not THE main draw of the show.
certainly wish more had happened, but that's only because there are only 2 shows left.

It is 12 episodes this season, and 8 more in January, and then that's it.. Where does that guy David427 say there's 2 more left? I think this season has been pretty good. I like that Tony is more Human than he has ever been, altho he didn't get with Juliana he did let the stripper go down on him? So whats that about? Is it because he missed Carmela when she was in Paris?
