Ahead of today's Upfronts, The Futon Critic is reporting that NBC is not renewing Conviction or Teachers for the fall. Neither of these cancelations comes as a surprise, really. The storytelling style on Conviction was so complicated that it was virtually impossible to feel anything for any of the characters (although, I'm going to miss Julianne Nicholson and Eric Balfour). And, Teachers? Why was that even on television? Also, ABC had reportedly decided not to renew Invasion, Freddie and Hope & Faith. Also not major surprises-- and Invasion might end up on The CW. What will Kelly Ripa do with all her extra time?
Stick around... Bob will be covering NBC's Upfronts later today.

Sad to see "Conviction" get the axe... I think it was an excellent show. But you're right, they should have cut down one storyline per episode or reduced the number of characters by two.
On another note: "The Loop" was renewed for a new season of 13 episodes *g*

For sure Invasion ends up on another channel (11) or perhaps SciFi.

I agree with all the cancellations except one: Conviction. The story line was a bit diluted the first episode but I gave it another chance the next week. I'm glad I did. Now you are cancelling it? What a shame that you can't give the show a bit more time to come together.

Conviction was the main reason they f**king cancelled Trial by Jury.

Teachers canceled? That was the great show! My husband and I loved Tuesday nights because we got to watch Scrubbs and Teachers! NBC stinks sometimes.

Conviction was a bad idea. Seriously, Stephanie March's character, Alex Cabot was great on Law & Order: SVU but there's something to be said about not knowing too much about the characters personal life. She was a kickass lawyer but in Conviction her character was basically ruined by the juvenile relationship drama they tried doing. Just, no.
I agree with Anna Johns in that I will miss Julianne Nicholson and her character, she was great, but the show just didn't have enough things going for it. Or, had more bad things going for it than good. It's sad, because they cancelled Trial by Jury for this and that, was a good show with just a crappy timeslot. I wish they could bring that one back instead.

Tuesday night tv is so bleak, teachers is the only show we agree on. On those off nights when we can't be glued to the tube, we tivo it. Phil Hendrie's character makes the show. I hope they put his talents to work elsewhere.

I am ridiculously dissapointed to see Teachers go, I thought it was very funny, and a good companion to Scrubs.
Conviction I am also dissapointed about, but not as much. It was a decent show, but as stated above, a little hard to follow.
Teachers was enjoyable though, but I figure, half their new shows are gonna tank, so maybe there's hope in the future for this show to come back *crosses fingers*

I really enjoyed Teachers. It was a relaxing half hour with a good cast. I also watched Conviction, even though it was painful sometimes (though only on Tivo so I could fast forward through some of the irrelevent plot lines).

Last I checked, it's spelled 'cancelled', and not 'canceled'. Phew, I thought I'd never find a use for my $200,000 education!

NBC IS INSANE FOR CANCELLING "CONVICTION"...IT WAS INTELLIGENT, WELL ACTED BY ALL ON THE SHOW. IT FIGURES THAT THEY LEAVE SHOWS LIKE "EARL" AND TAKE OFF GREAT SHOWS LIKE THIS ONE. SHAME ON YOU...DICK WOLF SHOULD MAKE SURE THEY LEAVE IT ON FOR ANOTHER SEASON, ONE SEASON DOES NOT A SHOW MAKE!!!!!

I cannot believe that Joey an Conviction were cancelled. Both were great shows. PLEASE don't put another reality show on, life is already to real.

It is not often a new show really "grabs" me the way Conviction has. I am sorry that it will not be back, and can only hope another network or cable network has enough vision to pick it up.

Cancel Conviction?! Yup that's why NBC is at the bottom of the food chain. They keep cancelling worthwhile shows (Trial By Jury another mistake) and leave on Crossing Jordan! Really?

I can't believe they are cancelling Conviction. I look forward to Fridays just to watch it. This is the same dissapointment I went through with NBC when they cancelled American Dreams. :(

Canceling (or cancelling) Conviction is a bad move. Even that idiotic show Joey got more than one season. NBC needed to give it time to grow. I thought it was a terrific show, full of promise. I didn't even mind all the story lines - it was interesting, which is something the vast majority of NBC shows aren't.

Conviction had good story lines. You never got bored. Some shows become very dry with just one story line. Conviction kept me interested and entertained.
Not a good decision to cancel this show.

"Last I checked, it's spelled 'cancelled', and not 'canceled'. Phew, I thought I'd never find a use for my $200,000 education!" Ummm sorry King Bob, keep looking, you will find a use yet. Both spellings are correct but canceled is preferred. Put "cancelled" into an AOL email form and do a spell check - it gets rejected.
