Outraged Chris Daughtry fans are saying that not only was it hard to get through to the American Idol phone lines, but when they did get through, some of the callers were misdirected to Katherine McPhee's phone line! And many online posters on the MSNBC boards are saying the same thing, that when they got through they heard a recording of Katherine McPhee's voice. Friends of Daughtry from North Carolina are telling the Associated Press the same thing. Still other callers reported getting through to the XXX ALL ADULT ACTION line.
OK, I'm kidding about that last part.

Lots of theories, nothing to do about it now.
The chances of Chris being the highest profile "loser" of American Idol are going up by the day. This conspiracy stuff is just adding "Fuel" to the fire...

i'm amazed there's people out there gullible enough to think that viewer votes had ANYTHING to do with who leaves the show. you really think a TV show is going to let US decide where it goes? think mcfly!!!

I know some thing was wrong with chris being ousted from American Idol, I tried for the 1st hour to vote and kept getting "this number is not in service" and other issues, I do believe they had issues with the phone line and they should put Chris back on and do a revote. its not fair.

Ya know, I don't think the TV people had anything ot do with Chris's off vote. On talk shows , Randy kept saying he wanted a "boy to win", and "Chris to win"...to try and affect the votes. I believe they wanted Chris to win.
I called and voted for Taylor 25 times, some busy signals. Katherine 5 times-no busy signals and Chris (for my son) 5 times. Chris's line was very difficult to get through on. Constant busy signals. Especially, the very fast busy singals indicating lines overloaded.
I figured no chance he would lose. Surprise! In a way I did not like being told by one of the Judges he wanted him to win. These Judges should not say anything to affect the voting outcome...it could come back in their ( and the contetants) face.
Still, Chris will 'make it' in the music industry on some level.
Still don't get the Elliott thing. He does not have the "star" quality to him. Good voice. I thought he would be voted off weeks ago.
Taylor is different than anyone I have ever seen... a much needed breath of fresh air for the music industry.
Katharine hs a very good voice. I just think she is "too much of the same". Nevertheless, I will not be too upset if she wins instead of Taylor.

According to Dial Idol, Chris was NEVER the top average vote-getter. I know Dial Idol not 100% accurate, but did manage to nail it when Chris was 2nd lowest and then this week when he came in last). For the five weeks between when there were eight contestants through the night he was voted off, his average position was a tie for third with Katharine, and behind Elliott (second) and Taylor (first).
His problem turned out to be pretty basic. He managed to keep his base rabidly loyal with his Alt Rock songs, but wasn't able to (or didn't try to) pick up new potential voters whose favorites had been voted out. In the long run, with those pick-up votes going to other contestants (mainly to Elliott), Chris's chances to win were doomed.
Bo Bice can't hold a candle to Chris's voice, but he had the ability to and tried to appeal to voters outside of his natural base. There's no reason Chris could not have done the same, and he almost certainly would have won this year.
Too bad.

All this is going to benefit Chris more than winning ever could have.

It had nothing to do with misdirected calls. Roughly the same amount of people call in to vote every week. Once their favorite is gone, they start voting for someone else. Pars' votes went to the other Idol who sounded most like her--Katherine. I that will put elliot as the od man out this week.

Taylor is the most talented of all. Chris was out because he is just like all those other singers. Taylor is humble and loves his fans and they keep him in by voting. I knew there would be excuses when he got voted off. Always is. Chris was named the winner all this time by the media and AI. He was not the top vote getter. Taylor was.

Chris is going to be fine and all this "additional" publicity isn't going to hurt him at all.
How many solo male artist are in the alt rock category anyway? I think Chris will do better with a band in the long run, even if it's one he puts together himself vs an established band.
he's only committed to AI for the tour now and then he can do what's best for Chris. I think that's the best for him instead of being tied into the year long contract and having to do what they tell him to do.

I absolutely believe that there was a problem with the phone lines & that an audit or revote is necessary. I tried to vote for Chris for the entire two hours using redial and could not get through. Given this fact it seems implausable he had the least amount of votes. In all honesty, EVERY person that I have spoken to- from strangers to relatives- tells the same story. Even though we all know that he will be a star regardless, this has indeed despaired those of us who were idealistic enough to believe that the system was fair. Without that trust, the show cannot continue to enjoy the popularity that it once did. Although I still love Taylor, I will no longer watch the show, refusing to be party to such a travesty of justice. If I had been able to vote and he had lost, I would have accepted the outcome. Something is amiss.

I was extremely disappointed when Chris was ousted!!! He has got the most beautiful voice. The range and the quality of his notes far supersede those of the other contestants... Elliot and Taylor are not as professional as he is. Catherine has a lovely voice but she makes a lot of mistakes, and sometimes pushes too hard.

If only there were this much interest and concern when it came to voting in elections. You barely hear a peep out of folks when voting machines don't work or spew out ridiculous numbers, but let the wrong American Idol contestant get voted off and there'e a huge outcry. It's a silly YV show where you get to pick one of the next people to grace our airways with mostly forgettable pop tunes. Does it really matter who wins?

We get the show in Scotland at 8:30pm on Fridays - what a shocking result. We can't vote from here, which is a bit frustrating when Ryan continually tells us to! Chris was magnificent throughout, paticularly on "I Walk The Line", and "Renegade", and I am gutted that he's out. My girlfriend was so upset at the result, she says she won't be watching the semi OR Final! She will be - she had the same feeling last year when Constantine left the show. Here's to a great two shows.
Hail! Hail!
Scott.

Try this one... I voted for Katharine and got tons of "this number is not in service."
No, there's no conspiracy. The voting system is crappy, but there was no master plan to get Chris kicked off. What interest the FOX have in making sure that the most popular contestant DOESN'T win? Common sense, people.
What also amuses me is people swearing off of a Idol. This happens every season, at least twice a season, when an upset is pulled, yet ratings remain strong.

why should chris fans be so angry?
I personally believed that he is so talented and the most marketable. but the fact was that he didn't get enough vote to stay in competition.
i know that there are alot of people wanting him to be back in Idol. but the fact that he was booted off cannot be changed just get over with it
i believe that he will have a bright future ahead
these guys on idol are not god, they are only human. i don't see why people should be very pissed off when their favorite get booted. yes every fans wants his favorite to win, but this show only need 1 winner. every week there were a lot of fans getting angry when their favorite was eliminated and swore that they will never watch again, get over with it people, it's only a show. so I think all the disappointment or anger about how the show was rigged should have been stopped.
but i personaaly thought that the top 5 were really good
