But this time, he doesn't want to do the whole "stay underwater for a week" thing beforehand.Blaine was pretty upset that he didn't break the record, so now he wants to try it again. He feels he let fans down, so he is going over exactly what happened before he tries it again.
Personally, I'm rather impressed that he failed. And what I mean by that is, I (and I'm sure many people) thought that he would do it with no problems, because he had practiced for so long and he had succeeded in all of the other stunts. Not that it was a "trick," but just that he seems to know what he's doing and it was almost a no-brainer, inevitable that he would do it, and it would be almost an anticlimax to the whole overlong ABC special. But that fact that he actually didn't succeed shows how dangerous it was, that he was really attempting to hold his breath almost nine minutes and there wasn't any trickery involved.
I think this makes his next stunt, whatever it is, even more interesting to me. I'll be watching.

...or that the trickery didn't work, leaving him underwater with dire consequences.

Or lets be cynical...maybe he designed it to fail so he can come back and do it again in another much hyped sweeps special!

Personally, I think he failed on purpose. I mean, c'mon..... Everything he does is basically an illusion or "magic" or whatever. I believe he didn't set the record (1) because he couldn't. (2) to throw people off, making them believe it was real. (3) if he is attempting to break a "Guiness World Record" they would investigate and inquire ... perhaps revealing any -secrets- and throwing off his credibility.
I don't really understand why people keep believing his illusions.

i don't agree with what was said, i know for a fact that david blaine's stunt was real. i was there, if uyou were there you would know. I know this sounds so celsha' (SPELLING) but you have to be there to belive it.
I know that his "Street Magic" is all illusions.
(I mean the tricks he does, not the stunts"

I was disappointed in how ABC advertised this event. According to the ads, there should have been only two options:
1. Blaine holds his breath for 9 minutes.
2. Blaine dies trying.
When I decided to give up two hours of my life to watch this, it was because I knew I would get to see something spectacular either way! The commercials never mentioned anything about Blaine being rescued from his bubble!

David Blaine's past stunts including the new Drowned Alive are simply brilliant. What better way to bring people from every culture and ethnicity together. So what if he didnt beat the 9 minute record. 7 minutes is long enough, especially after being stuck in a fishbowl for 7 days without sleep, solid food, and physical comfort. If you saw the special, Houdini was going to perform the same stunt, but passed away before he did. Would you be dissapointed or not inpressed if Houdini performed this underwater stunt? What is so great about David is that he performs street magic without the use of a stage, mirrors, black backdrops, and stupid magic props, etc. We all know that these are tricks and illusions, but then again, who cares? He still shocks people. That is the magic. Why is it we dont see David Copperfield perform in-your-face street magic? Because he cant and dont know how. I was fortunate to meet and take photos with David Blaine a couple of years ago, and he seems like a down-to-earth guy who's trying to make a living off his magic. Keep up the great work David.

David Blaine is to magic what the comic strip Cathy is to great art.
Houdini should come back from the grave just to kick Blaine's ass.
