(S02E21) I've been waiting for this episode ever since I saw its most interesting title: a simple question mark. We all knew what it would refer to once we saw the mysterious map Locke caught a glimpse of, but it was knowing that this would be an Eko-centric episode that, to me, made it all the more interesting. For those of you who like to over analyze the episodes on a microscopic level like we do, you may have noticed that little scene in Eko's dream where a bunch of images flashed by before he saw his brother, Yemi, sitting at the computer. Here's a list of what was shown:
- A dead body floating in the ocean.
- A crucifix necklace on the ground.
- The scene with the Other who had the teddy bear on a rope.
- A campfire.
- Jin blindfolded.
- The statues of Virgin Mary on a table.
- The drug plane when Eko and Charlie set it ablaze.
- Yemi in a church.
- The Arrow Dharma symbol on a wall.
- A Holy Bible.
- A close-up shot of Eko's staff.
- Eko looking at Yemi's corpse.
- Closeup of Locke's face.
- Eko looking through the black mist.
- The crucifix on Yemi's dead body.
- The plane Yemi was on, taking off from the runway.
- The truck of soldiers chasing the plane.
- Yemi getting shot.
- The Asian Dharma guy from the first video.
- The Swan Dharma symbol on a wall.
Really not all that interesting, really. But there you have it.
This season sure seems to have stepped up ever since Michael made it back into the picture, starting with the big shocker from last week. I knew Libby was going to eventually die, but it didn't make watching her scenes any easier at all. It was incredibly painful to watch her suffering, and it really bothers me that we may never get a decent background episode for her. Will we ever see why she was in the psych ward with Hurley?
An interesting tidbit in this episode was the appearance of the psychic from Claire's back story. He comes out and admits to Eko that he's a fraud, which sadly unravels what was once a very cool part of Claire's story. He seems to have simply lied to Claire, though I'm not sure if we're to believe that was the one time he really did see something real. Maybe we'll find out in a future episode.
Another reason I was looking forward to this episode was knowing Eko and Locke would get some significant screen time together. I believe these two characters to be the strongest links of the Oceanic survivors, ones who could be the only reason they're all still alive in the first place. They clearly have a connecting with faith and believing that not all is what it seems.
The biggest part of the episode, of course, was the reveal of a new hatch, The Pearl, the one central hatch. So, who are we to believe? Is the orientation video proving the theory right-out, that this is all simply an experiment? Or is the Pearl hatch itself something more than it seems? Where could that drive-up bank teller tube send message off to? I'm guessing the printout that Locke gets is listings of when the "button" is pressed correctly, so will he see any log of when Michael typed to who he thought was Walt? I'm guessing we'll see what Michael saw on that screen next week.
It would have been HUGE if, when Locke turned on all of the television sets, we saw a lot more survivors spread about the island, maybe even another Desmond locked away somewhere. I get the feeling this isn't the last we're going to see of that central hatch.
Anyway, an awesome episode. I can't believe yet another show is almost over until the fall.
Oh, and lastly, I'm sure you must have caught the new Hanso Foundation commercial, now telling you to visit www.sublymonal.com.

I don't understand why Eko was more convinced of the button after seeing the new video. It seemed pretty obvious that the video would all but answer the "why do you push the button" question. Good catch on the print out thing, I guess Eko or Locke will read Michael's "Walt" conversation from earlier this season. Nice foreshadowing by the producers.
Aussielo writes on his blog that Damon/Carleton said that we will be seeing more of Libby in the finale and next year. In Flashbacks though. But she isnt off the show. Just a back burner character.
Why doesn't Michael want Sayid to come with him? (from the Canadian promo) is he not on the list? I would think the others would want to get back at Sayid for beating up "F"Henry.
I got such huge goosebumbs when they were in the pearl and watching Jack. Yikes, super creepy.
One last thing, I loved the twist that the Eko falling was in LOCKES dream. Nice touch.
These episodes are amazing!

******SPOILER*******
TiVo cut off the episode just after Libby finished saying "Michael" and then they cut to an image of him against the wall in the Hatch's "dungeon". What happened? Any links to youtube sporting "scenes from the next LOST"??
I definitely enjoyed the background stroy on Ecko...

I personally didn't feel as though the psychic was actually a fraud. It seems much more likely that he was merely telling Eko that bacause he either knew something he didn't want Eko to know, or he knew that it would get Eko to leave the island quickly, thereby he wouldn't miss his flight on 815. Also, when his daughter met Eko in the airport, it just made me believe even more that the pyschic isn't a fraud, as it seems clear that she had some sort of otherworldly experience, whether or not she "died."

anyone click the link? i got the "code", but dont know what it's for.
all these "surprises" that we get to see in the previews are all fakes. Jin talking, eko falling. From now on, if i see anything surprising in a teaser preview, i'm assuming it's someones dream.
but then again, maybe this is what they want me to think.

Very small, in the left corner of the Hanso commercial, it said "Paid for by Sprite."
Then the website was www.sublymonal.com
If I remember from the old ads, Sprite has Lymon.
I bet it's just a darn Sprite promotion.

well obviously libby has to come back. they even generated a story about someone dying and then coming back to life a number of hours later. libby 'died' right before the episode ended so i wouldnt be surprised if she came back to life at the start of the next episdoe (just like the start of this episode).
the real question is - who else has access to a computer that can type messages to the one in the 'original' hatch. walt/whoever was pretending to be walt, was not using the computer in the pearl so there is atleast a 4th hatch that has direct computer access. The promo for next week looks off the hook. hopefully my ota hd signal wont die halfway through again. lost in hd rules.

Yeah, the Naso commercial tonight was one big Sprite ad. On the ad itself, in the left corner it said 'Paid for by Sprite', first red flag. The domain name is owned by Coca Cola, red flag #2. Then all the TVs start turning a lemony yellow with the word Obey in the middle. (Obey your thirst...) Hm. You get the code Heir Apparent when it finally finishes the 'puzzle', you really just click on TVs. Then I noticed title of the webpage was subLYMONal.com. Lymon, was larger. Go to Lymon.com and tell me what happens...

If you click on the link www.sublymonal.com and figure out the code...it takes you to the homepage of HANSO with info on all the initiatives and the mission ,etc.: Mathematical Forecasting Initiative, Worldwide Wellness and Prevention Development Program, Mental Health Appeal, Institute for Genomic Advancement, and Life Extension Project. Interesting that the Pearl Orientation tape had a year listed on it at the end just under the word Hanso...it was 1980. What year do you think they are really in????

Regarding the printout of when the button was pushed correctly....do you think there may be evidence there of whether or not Fake Henry pushed the button when John was trapped under the door? He claims he did not push it, and nothing happened, but what if he lied (again)?
Shouldn't the evidence be on that printout?

I think the code has something to do with the Mittelwerk dude on the site. Several words are covered up in his bio. I put heir apparent in the box, but nothing happens. Maybe it simply means he's the chief heir apparent, but I really can't tell because nothing is happening.

Okay. I had to log in first. Then I entered heir apparent and the screen went crazy. A black hole type thing opened up and a picture appeared. It's a blackened hall with the ceiling lights flickering on and off. Weird scary noises started. It's possibly a hospital hallway with a wheel chair to the forefront left. And to the back is a person, possibly a woman with a long white dress on, possibly a nurses outfit.

Clicked on the red mark at the top and a message started typing with a woman's voice speaking the words. i didn't catch it all. But in short it says the guy doesn't have a degree. And she wonders who is this clown. And she wonders if he's a real doctor.

By the way, TVGuide.com has an exclusive interview with some of the "Lost" honchos. In the interview, they state the following: "You'll start to learn Libby's moves through flashbacks over the course of the next season. So we're not done with Cynthia, but Libby is dead." Internesting! here is the link to that interview: http://community.tvguide.com/forum.jspa?forumID=700000049
