Lost: ?

lost(S02E21) I've been waiting for this episode ever since I saw its most interesting title: a simple question mark. We all knew what it would refer to once we saw the mysterious map Locke caught a glimpse of, but it was knowing that this would be an Eko-centric episode that, to me, made it all the more interesting.

For those of you who like to over analyze the episodes on a microscopic level like we do, you may have noticed that little scene in Eko's dream where a bunch of images flashed by before he saw his brother, Yemi, sitting at the computer. Here's a list of what was shown:

- A dead body floating in the ocean.
- A crucifix necklace on the ground.
- The scene with the Other who had the teddy bear on a rope.
- A campfire.
- Jin blindfolded.
- The statues of Virgin Mary on a table.
- The drug plane when Eko and Charlie set it ablaze.
- Yemi in a church.
- The Arrow Dharma symbol on a wall.
- A Holy Bible.
- A close-up shot of Eko's staff.
- Eko looking at Yemi's corpse.
- Closeup of Locke's face.
- Eko looking through the black mist.
- The crucifix on Yemi's dead body.
- The plane Yemi was on, taking off from the runway.
- The truck of soldiers chasing the plane.
- Yemi getting shot.
- The Asian Dharma guy from the first video.
- The Swan Dharma symbol on a wall.

Really not all that interesting, really. But there you have it.

This season sure seems to have stepped up ever since Michael made it back into the picture, starting with the big shocker from last week. I knew Libby was going to eventually die, but it didn't make watching her scenes any easier at all. It was incredibly painful to watch her suffering, and it really bothers me that we may never get a decent background episode for her. Will we ever see why she was in the psych ward with Hurley?

An interesting tidbit in this episode was the appearance of the psychic from Claire's back story. He comes out and admits to Eko that he's a fraud, which sadly unravels what was once a very cool part of Claire's story. He seems to have simply lied to Claire, though I'm not sure if we're to believe that was the one time he really did see something real. Maybe we'll find out in a future episode.

Another reason I was looking forward to this episode was knowing Eko and Locke would get some significant screen time together. I believe these two characters to be the strongest links of the Oceanic survivors, ones who could be the only reason they're all still alive in the first place. They clearly have a connecting with faith and believing that not all is what it seems.

The biggest part of the episode, of course, was the reveal of a new hatch, The Pearl, the one central hatch. So, who are we to believe? Is the orientation video proving the theory right-out, that this is all simply an experiment? Or is the Pearl hatch itself something more than it seems? Where could that drive-up bank teller tube send message off to? I'm guessing the printout that Locke gets is listings of when the "button" is pressed correctly, so will he see any log of when Michael typed to who he thought was Walt? I'm guessing we'll see what Michael saw on that screen next week.

It would have been HUGE if, when Locke turned on all of the television sets, we saw a lot more survivors spread about the island, maybe even another Desmond locked away somewhere. I get the feeling this isn't the last we're going to see of that central hatch.

Anyway, an awesome episode. I can't believe yet another show is almost over until the fall.

Oh, and lastly, I'm sure you must have caught the new Hanso Foundation commercial, now telling you to visit www.sublymonal.com.
