American Idol is the number one TV show of people aged 2 to 11.After you let that little factoid sink in for a few minutes, click on over to The Boston Globe's article about how babies love American Idol. The writer talks about her 21 month year old daughter's obsession with Paris Bennett and Bucky Covington. She's not a big Taylor fan though.
I don't think it's the singing, I think babies tune in for the reason a lot of adults do: they're wondering what crazy-ass thing Paula Abdul is going to do next.

My four year old daughter cried for hours after Bucky was voted off. At first I thought she was just being silly, but then after the first hour, I realized she was serious. Even today she asks if we can vote Bucky back in.

Babies AND Toddlers love American Idol.
My granddaughter is three. When Carrie Underwood sang, she was transfixed. None of the other contestants had that effect on her. When JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL came out, she sang along with Carrie--and she knew all of the lyrics and even the sounds, which is pretty stunning considering her age.
If you want to know who is going to win this years'competition, watch the toddlers. They're attuned.

WTG, Motherof2. We have a real problem if we're already making our two-year-olds into couch potatoes. And when do these kids go to bed?

This is a very SAD commentary on the state of our country when we allow children to watch TV at this level. For them to become so obsessed and upset tells us that this is their REAL WORLD.....in their minds. How really very pitiful. DO THESE PARENTS EVER READ TO THEM, TAKE THEM OUTSIDE TO PLAY, TAKE THEM FOR WALKS, TAKE THEM OUT INTO THE REAL WORLD FOR ADVENTURES (like to the zoo or public library, or to a playground)????
Lazy TV-addicted parents = Lazy TV-addicted children.
It sure is nothing I would brag about.

I haven't been an Idol watcher for very long, however, I am inclined to believe that the polls are rigged. The votes may be there, however, maybe Chris' lines were tied up on purpose. The last three weeks, McPhee has messed up on at least one song each night. My feeling is that the network wants at least one woman left, and yes, she is very pretty. She even has a great voice. I'm not sure she has the stamina to do a full length show. If my thoughts about this being rigged is anywhere near correct, this is a great injustice to the millions of people who are watching and supporting this show. I for one am very disappointed. I might add that Chris isn't my favorite, but from what I've seen and heard, he should still be on the show.

I am amazed that "parents" allow their babies to watch Idol!!! They are 2-3-4 yr. olds!! Hellooooo...people wake up!! How about r-e-a-d-i-n-g to them?..playing?... or..heres a novel idea...putting them to bed??.... its 8 PM!
Is it me -- or what?....to read that a 4yr.old "cried for hours after Bucky got voted off" makes me shake my head in utter amazement!

OK, I agree TV is not something you should let your young children watch at 2, 3, 4 but let's face it, everyone needs a little downtime at night and since all other shows are filled with smut, AI is a safe bet. Yes the kids should be in bed but with the invention of TiVo, your child can watch it at another time...like my 7 year old does. Believe it or not, she even has time to read and be read to! So really what harm is there in watching AI....a show that the whole family can watch, because my husband does not enjoy watching Full House, again & again!
