(S01E21) Best episode of the season.
Absolutely spectacular. It's funny, too. Just a couple of days ago, a friend of mine and I were talking about how this
show hadn't done a "mole" episode yet. Every FBI/CIA/spy show has one of those episodes when they have
to root out a traitor in their own ranks, and this show hadn't done one yet. Well, we got it and it was great. Well
written, logical twists. It made you think and I like it when shows do that.
Of course, being network television, you didn't have to think too hard. Even a casual TV viewer should have been able to pick the CIA Operations Director (Bruno?) right from the get-go. But the writers threw in a twist right at the end to throw you off and that was a nice touch because I feel like other shows wouldn't have taken the time to do that.
Let's talk about the opening though. Wow. After that agent was captured, tortured, neck snapped... then the CIA came back and made it look like a suicide. That was intense. There was a mention later in the episode about the suicide note too. It's creepy to think that CIA agents have a written suicide note on file should their situation warrant that. Again, creepy.
The past couple episodes have been using a new gimmick too. Half-way through the episode, during the commercial break, they play a quick catch-up montage called "The Case So Far." It's a nice touch for those who've been watching since the episode started and for those that just tuned in.
Back to the case, the only thing that bugged me was the ease that Bruno had in killing one of his own people in the CIA office. Shouldn't it be hard to kill someone while you're in a CIA building? Moreover, why did everyone take it so lightly? I feel like people would have been in much more of an uproar if one of their colleagues turned up dead a few cubicles away.
The twist at the end was done well too. I second-guessed. The only thing they didn't explain was at what point did the female agent start to suspect Bruno? Elle and Morgan tipped off the other guy when they interrogated him, but the female agent never got a heads up like that. So I suppose credit is due since she put two and two together on her own.
Next week is the season one finale and the previews made it look very good. Hopefully they aren't just showing us the exciting parts though.

Great Episode, yeah. I think the female CIA agent (possible cast addition or recurring character, or more likely, brought back to die later) was pretty clear when she said there's no reason to kill someone with as much information as the baddie had unless you wanted to shut him up. I think that's when she realized it wasn't kosher. She may have had doubts, but that sealed the deal.

I was wondering though- evidently i wasnt paying much attention at the end. What exactly WAS bruno's stressor? the job itself? dunno, but after watching the episode, everything but that fell right into place for me. also, garcia (and JJ?)being on an CIA 'list' is hilarious. and her looking for prince william's number? priceless. i am so totally using that in the fanfiction that i am writing about the show. does anyone want to read it? i doubt it, but just in case, here's the link.
