It doesn't get the best ratings on
television, but it's a good show and has buzz, so ABC is giving Boston Legal a
third season. Creator and writer David E. Kelley has another show coming up on ABC too, next year, titled Life
On Mars. You know, I've never seen one episode of Boston Legal, even though I watched a few eps of The Practice (until it got a little silly), I'm from the Boston area, and I'm a big fan of both James Spader and William Shatner. Weird.

it actually makes me sad that TVsquad doesnt seem to watch/review one of the greatest shows on TV.
How can I get brought on as a staff writer? I watch this show, I can review it!

I'm glad this has happened. The show is so unashamedly liberal and not mention very funny. Spader and Shatner, especially Shatner, are doing the best work of their careers and the rest of the cast is very solid. Probably the best law show Kelley has done since LA Law.

I wouldnt say its completely liberal... Denny Crane is the penultimate Conservative on the show. So is Brad Chase. I think its great that Crane (conservative) and Shore (liberal) get along so well. I am glad this is renewed b/c the characters are so great together.

Lovely, another lame American adaptation of a brilliant british show.
Why can't they leave well enough alone.

Without a doubt, one of the best - if not THE best - ensemble dramedy on network television today; it's great to know that it'll be back for another season. From Spader to Shatner, Candice Bergen to Rene Auberjonois, the show is so well-rounded, when the court cases don't live up to their potential, the cast can easily drive the show to satisfy my Tuesday nights.

You do realize the UK broadcaster sells them the rights? They cannot just make the show when they please.
Get your facts straight first, before touting your wonderful British tripe and belittling any American TV - on an Amercian blog!

I started watching Boston Legal this season after both James Spader and William Shatner won their Emmys. It's now one of my favorites and I never miss an episode. Now I just have to find last season's to see what I missed.... My advice to those who think this show sounds interesting: watch it, it is.

Mr. Akai, I'm not sure why you made your statement, since this show was a direct spin-off from 'The Practice'. I don't believe David Kelley paid for the rights to any show such as this.
If you've never seen one episode of this show, but think it's just an extension of The Practice, then you are further from the truth. While The Practice was very serious about itself Boston Legal is definitely not. It's not wacky like Ally McBeal (no dancing babies) but they are definitely not afraid to make fun of themselves. For instance, there have been a number of times throughout the series where references to Star Trek's James Kirk are made either by Shatner himself or other members of the ensemble.
I would love to review this show. Unfortunately, it airs at the same time as SVU does.

I'm assuming that Mr. Akai was referring to the forthcoming "Life on Mars" as the British show about to be Americanized. When I saw that Kelly was doing a show by that title, I did a double-take myself. Is this actually an american version of the Brit series that was reviewed here earlier this year?

According to imdb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0787490/) "Life on Mars" is going to be "an American remake of the BBC series."

Bob Jones and May, yes I was referring to Life on Mars. Yes Bob, I do realize that it's not a arbitrary decision on the part of the american production company, and the original production company has to be involved in selling the rights.
My point was more a general statement that with the exception of The Office and maybe Touching Evil, 90% of american remakes of british shows are crap (Cracker, Teachers, Coupling, etc).
Mr Kelley has done some great shows, I just don't know why he has to take on LoM which, at least in it's original form, was not nearly snarky or dramedy enough for his usual faire.

Yeah, a bit surprised too that TV Squad doesn't watch (and highly admire) this show. I started watching it this season as well, and it's absolutely brilliant. Lots of surface wit-comedy but a lot of deeper things too.
And if for no other reason, seeing Denny Crane do the slo-mo walk with his flock of geese superhottie female lawyer team when he decides to take on a public case... that was priceless!

Danny Crane, I love the show and you, BUT, please loose some weight, I fear for your health. I'm a trekky and you were gorgeous and thin. I am older then you, I lost 32 lbs. 5 years ago. It can be done, without a diet. How did that weight happen?

Hey Rhoda, its "Denny" not "danny" (danny is his son) Also, it is "lose" not "loose"
Some people are just built that way. I would not say that William Shatner is fat. My great uncle lived to be 97 looking like William Shatner (he died of simple old age, thats all)

It is actually pretty good. The oddball interrelationships can be charming. Shatner, in his old age is an old style pin cushion (bulls eye) with a long delayed sloping counter punch. Definitely a hook.
Spader, to his credit, tries like hell not to act. He leaves it to the surrounding kooks.
I believe there is much more Ally McBeal in this than some note.
True, no dancing baby......yet!

I love Boston Legal. It's one of my favs. I miss Monica Potter being on the show. I'd be one of those women standing outside Brad's office watching him change shirts for court! Is it me, or does it seem like there are longer commercial breaks in this show?

Without a doubt one of the finest shows on television. Even when it's not at it's best, it's still substantially better than everything else on TV.
