(S02E21) Very powerful episode... well, half of it anyway. The Kid Rock side of the story was just incredibly corny and I really don't see it as anything other than a ratings booster. Which leaves me wondering, why Kid Rock? They couldn't have written in another rock star? There are plenty more out there that I would have chosen to create some buzz. Does Kid Rock even still tour? He had four shows in NYC in this episode... unless you're someone like Madonna or Billy Joel, who ever has four shows all in NYC anymore? I just don't get it because there's no way Kid Rock approached them and said, "Man, I love CSI: NY. Can you write me into an episode?" Anywho, his limo driver was shot and Kid (Is that really his first name?) didn't do it. The other a half of the episode is all that really mattered, because it picked up where last week left off: Stella's boyfriend is crazy. We left Stella after she made the discovery that her new boyfriend Frankie (complete meathead name) had posted a sex tape of the two of them on the internet. Naturally, she broke up with Frankie but he got scary. He copied her apartment key, was waiting for her when she got home, and he even dug the statue he made for her out of the trash. Frankie no likey when you put his play-doh in the trashy.
But he was taking the rejection very well... because he was ignoring it. He ordered Chinese food and the two had a swell evening ahead. That lasted until Stella tried to call someone and Frankie tied her up with phone cord and threw her in the bathtub. Fortunately, she was able to use her cheap plastic razor to cut through the wire (slicing her hands like crazy in the process), and break free. She got her gun from her purse and pumped three into lover boy's chest. That was satisfying to watch because this guy was creepy.
This is going to be interesting to see how they handle this for the rest of the season. The way the story was told, Stella was found passed out next to Frankie's body at the beginning of the episode and it unfolded in flashbacks. Stella wasn't doing too well, nor would you expect her too. Mac tells her take time off... I'm not so sure she'll want to for very long.

I rarely watch CSI: NY but I did catch this episode. Melina Kanakaredes put in an excellent performance as Stella. You are right, the whole Kid Rock part could have been left out. I guess "Kid" wants to get into acting... too bad he was horrible.

It is funny you mention Kid Rock. The only reason I watched this show was to see him. I thought the story line was pretty corny too, but having the American Badass on CSI:NY was worth seeing. I hardly ever watch "the other" CSIs, as they just do not even compare to the original. That red-headed ignoramus on the Miami one needs to learn to act. And poor Gary Sinise, one of my favorite actors, being suckered into a 3rd rate show like this one. Oh, the shame. I have tried to watch several eps, but it is always dry and boring.
As far as Kid touring, he is still selling out shows everywhere. I think his last couple of albums have been more critically acclaimed than popular, but I have actually come to respect his music more and more.
I doubt his appearance had anything to do with acting, and a lot to do with the fact that he just released a live album (which is pretty good). I imagine that CSI:NY had a story with a rock star in it, and they were looking for someone willing to do the part.

You ask, Why Kid Rock? I ask why not? I never watched CSI: NY before and only watched this episode because I happen to love Kid Rock.Yes,he does have a real name, Robert Ritchie. Even though he has been a famous musican for many years, I have recently became a huge fan. Kid started his present tour in January. I bought tickets for a friend who was a fan and went along. Without knowing any of his music, the way I do now, I was amazed at what a great performer he is. It was hard not to get up and dance and cheer along with thousands of others. The next day I purchased all of his previous CDs and when his "Live" album came out I was ready and waiting. He is amazing beyond words, completely down to earth, more talented then imaginable, and incredibly handsome.
If you don't know his music just experiment a little, expand your mind with all different types of music, and appreciate the art of really good music. As for his acting...he doesn't need the money or the exposure. Maybe when he was asked he figured what the hell,it would fun and to break up the monotony of touring. As for CSI:NY-- the original is always better.
