Big Love: Eviction

Bill Henrickson(S01E07) Bill Henrickson wasn't kidding when he told his first wife Barb in bed at the end of last night's episode, "Everything is spinning out of control." Talk about an understatement!

His other two wives Nikki and Margene are indulging in behavior that Barb feels will draw unwanted scrutiny to their family unit. Margene seems to be increasingly desperate for attention and her very-forward neighbor Pam is showing up any time, anywhere. (Think Marie Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond.)

Nikki is battling with her own issues, including her mounting credit card debt ($58,000 and counting) and her jealousy over Barb getting the most attention from Bill. It also appears that her religious beliefs are being called into question, whether from some very annoying missionaries (who would even allow these knuckleheads onto their property a second time?) or her own father, the cunning Roman Grant.

Speaking of Roman, his battle with Bill over his expected "tithing" from the Home Plus stores is getting nastier and could explode into violence before long. Roman's minions end up bulldozing the homes of Bill's family, and they end up in a fleabag motel. To top things off, if Bill's brother Joey ends up going off the deep end, his wife Wanda is going to hold Bill responsible.

Bill also is seeking to separate himself from Roman's clutches even further by seriously considering a large marketing campaign to place his Home Plus stores into the spotlight. I really enjoyed the not-to-subtle references by the marketing exec to appeal to the Mormon population of Utah by using the "Home Plus is Us" slogan. Great writing!

Adding more fuel to the fire is Bill's daughter Sarah, who brings home her friend Heather, who's curiousity catches the family off-guard when she asks to speak to Bill about polygamy. It appears that Heather, who is deeply religious, thinks she can straighten out Sarah, so Heather may be the one who brings the unwanted attention to the Henrickson home(s).

Finally, it's obvious that Bill and Barb share a deep affection for each other. It makes you question as to why Bill is even involved with Nikki and Margene. He doesn't even seem to have any relationships with his children by his two younger wives. Is he a polygamist solely because his father is one and doesn't know any other way of life?

Bill is having a tough go of it lately, but he's brought a lot of it upon himself, so let's not shed any tears for him.
