(S05E14) For some reason, Peter
starts writing his own porn stories after finding the writing in a porn book to be lacking. This leads to a truly
bizarre scene involving some sort of rat (dog?) couple who can't afford to pay their landlord, and the landlord (Peter)
says he'll let it go if he can have sex with the rat (dog?) wife. To be honest, I'm not even sure what the hell was going on there, it was so disturbing.
Peter wants $7 billion to publish the book, and gets it from Lois' multi-billionaire father (the money is kept underneath a pile of barbed wire and salt. Peter's books include Angela's Asses and Shaved New World. And one available on audio: The Hot Chick Who Was Italian. Or Some Sort Of Spanish, read by Betty White.
The multi-billionaire is visited by a lawyer, who says his client was injured by one of Peter's books. The rich guy tries to feed him to a giant monster in the basement. The lawyer escapes, causing Lois' dad to say "Huh. I didn't realize Greenberg was a Jedi name."
Lois' dad comes to live with the Griffin's because he is now broke. His money was his whole life, so much so he can't even remember to wear clothes or wipe himself after going to the bathroom.
Stewie is practicing for the Olympic gymnastics team in the living room. Brian thinks its gay.
Peter tries to show Lois' dad that he can live a normal life. They go on the bus, go to the movies to see Renee' Zellweger suck up ants at a picnic. (Funny dig at Zellweger, saying she should at best be the best friend in movies and not the lead). Peter realizes that his father in law needs money, so he tries to steal it from Lois, make a drug deal with Meg, and then make a teen drama, like the ones that are popular with the kids nowadays. This leads to another disturbing scene: Lois' dad dressed like a girl, on a bed with Peter, arguing about not wanting to have sex with him.
Stewie injures himself while doing a dismount in the living room. And by "hurt" I mean he gets a giant shard of glass in his forehead.
Peter and his father in law decide to rob a train, but there are no passengers on board. After haggling with the conductor and getting nowhere, Peter gets thrown out of the train by Lois' dad, and he goes right through the wall of the Kool-Aid man, who had just repaired his living room wall.
Lois' dad gets a surprise: she has left Ted Turner and taken him for a ton. They now own half of CNN! Lois' dad calls Peter a fat peasant and leaves.

That was no "giant monster", that was a Rancor. The whole scene was inspired by a scene in Return Of The Jedi.
The mouse farm scene was weird, it's probably a parody of something, but I don't know what.

Both Family Guy and American Dad used a sex doll in the same week...and they wonder why the shows have been terrible since the hiatus.
Another moment of them not knowing when to drop a bit...in American dad when the alien was begging for his life after trying to go to AC. The first few seconds were funny, then it got boring, then annoying.

I still never laugh at Peter's antics. It's been three (?) seasons already, and I still only like the raport between Stewie and Brian.
I may be alone in this, but I really prefer American Dad to Family Guy. American Dad doesn't go off in tangents like Family Guy.

I personally dig the weird tangents... Keeping a story on-topic is soooo 20th century. Heh.
I thought Stewie's narration of his routine was hilarious; so was Quagmire's gig-attack in the porn store. Is no one else going to mention the Tracy Ullman thing? I thought the Simpsons parallel was awesome, with the voices not quite what they ought to be. Reminded me of MacFarlane's "Life of Larry".
Family Guy, to me, is a half hour of mindless gags... an experiment in funny. The stories sometimes flow (Road to Rhode Island/Europe), but I see episodes more as vehicles for the silly tangents and interactions between very odd characters. The oft-80s pop culture references are great too, although I sometimes wish I didn't get them.
One thing that gets on my nerves a little (just a little) is that they'll sometimes exploit a gag that worked in the past by reintegrating the characters. I'm thinking of the Vaudeville guys, the expired-coupon-fighting chicken, and the Kool Aid guy (nothing could beat that first episode- "Oh no. Oh no! Oh no!!! OOOOHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!!!").

I'm no writer, but I'll be honest, did you watch the show? All your commentary is out of order from the show, and there were like 10 funnier parts that you didn't put into the synopsis (and those that you did, you really messed up -- Jedi? Rancor? $5! Koolaide "Now that I see it from the other side, yeah that's annoying")

Why are you recapping this show, Bob?
From the tone of your writing, it's pretty clear that you don't really care about it or find it that funny. Do you enjoy tangential humor? Do you enjoy pop culture references? (I'm definitely guessing no on that last one judging by the "giant monster" comment)

For those of us who love the Family Guy and The Simpsons, it's just too good to see them both take digs at each other. The Tracey Ullman "poorly drawn early Simpsons" reference was brilliant, with Stewie's cockney British accent, and single mangled tooth a riot. And did anyone see the Simpsons where Side Show Bob is found as a criminal in Italy, and Homer is thumbing through a book of known criminals in the area, with Side Show Bob as one of them with a single Italian word (which escapes me at the moment) referring to him as "thief", then the next pic in the book being Peter Griffin with the word "Plagiarismo" and then the next a picture of Stan from American Dad as "Plagiarismo de Plagiarismo". Brilliant jab.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree... I'm not a big Bob-recapping-family-guy fan either, no offense. I thought the rat farm was awesome. Sure it was disturbing, but that's what makes Family Guy great.
