(S03E22) This was one of those
weird episodes where suspension of disbelief is absolutely necessary. Somehow (only with the magic of television),
Berkeley and Brown are both having their incoming freshman weekends the same weekend. Weird. Especially
weird that they would have an incoming freshman weekend months and months and months before the school
semester even starts. But whatever. It's The O.C. and I forgive.Marissa and Ryan head off to Berkeley together, but not really together since they took different flights. Couldn't they have just driven? Isn't it like two hours away by car? But whatever. Since Kirsten had to take Seth and Ryan to the airport, it allowed for Kirsten to spot Theresa with a questionable 2-year-old baby. Yup, the same baby that she told Ryan that she miscarried....oh, so long ago.
Against Sandy's wishes, Kirsten tells Ryan over the phone about the baby and Ryan rushes back to Newport to see what the deal is. Theresa shows up and within seconds tells Ryan that "nope, not his." Well, that's a relief, but you'd think with them withholding this cliffhanger from us for so long, it would have had a bigger bang to it. You would think that a paternity test would be in order, or at least some tears would fall. But nope. Theresa shows up and tells him it's not his, and Ryan takes her out to the diner for some chili cheese fries. I expected more drama.
There was some more drama at Brown, but only slightly. Seth flies to Rhode Island in an attempt to convince the Dean of Admissions to let him in, so he can get Summer back. Instead, he runs into Anna, Summer's former foe. Summer sees them together and figures that Seth lied to her about not wanting to go to Brown because he just wanted to go there with Anna, not her. Oh, what a tangled web we weave when he lie, Seth. Seth has about a million opportunities to tell Summer the truth, but he doesn't. Instead, Anna helps get him into a local design school (via his comic talents), and one can only speculate on how long they are going to carry out the Seth/Summer lying charade.
Things were much more interesting this week with Sandy and Kirsten. Tired of Sandy focusing too much on work, Kirsten embarrasses him at fundraiser by publicly comparing him to her manipulative father. Then, she goes outside and woofs down a glass of wine. Apparently, she's back on the booze train.
Next week's episode is prom, and fallen American Idol Lisa Tucker will guest star. Eh. (I shrug my shoulders in apathy.)

I thought they'd take some time with the Theresa subplot , she managed to leave Ryan all chilled with the paternity test, but don't you think he trusts her too much with it? she is the same girl that lied him about an abortion to get rid of him, even if it was for his own good. I doubt she would have any remorse in lying to him again.
Also, the Kristen-alcoholic is getting boring, she should fight Sandy for the control of the company, not fall again in the bottle. I'm sort of tired of this stuff.
I guess you forgot the Marissa plot and how she is trying to become the role model for dumb and dumber 3. She tells her mother about the druggie incident in the party just to fall back to the same routine after noticing a dvd musical on a table (her deep thoughts: "Oh, i told him i wanted to be the girl in the musical and he rented it , for 5 days!!! , to make sure that i got what i deserved, how nice, ill sleep with him and reward him with good morning sex")
Seth and Summer, come on, we know they have to get back together and to a university close to berkeley if not berkeley itself, its not going to be Brown, so forget about it and get back to real world, you scripters...

***POSSIBLE SPOILER***
I heard the plan was to have a new set of high schoolers led by Marissa's sister at Harbor. Imagine it as "Saved by the Bell: The New Class".
Even scarier if this is true, that makes Julie Cooper and Dr. Roberts the new Kirsten & Sandy. Scccarrrry!

Believe it or not, that is how the college previews go. They have the students come before their decisions are due in May, to try and entice them (and their parents) to come... I go to MIT and our "Campus Preview Weekend" was the first weekend in April...
And yes, of course they will all end up going to Berkeley.

1. colleges do have preview days/weekends, but not where you stay on campus like that. (hello? classes are still in session!)
2. Anna was totally wasted (not drunk) in this episode. the anticipation of her return has been building for two years and the magic that was Seth and Anna (whether as friends or as a couple) was just not even close to being there. and the long hair DEFINITELY doesn't work for her.
3. the anticipation for two years of Ryan finding out about Theresa was also totally anti-climactic. what the hell? that was just stupid.
Dear, Mr. Schwartz... remember when your show was good and interesting and you knew about building to a climax? you should really try that again! ps... if the rumors are true and Oliver is really coming back, please make sure a bullet is put through his head.
seriously... who's writing this crap these days?

Re Matthew, you're wrong about 1. For our Campus Preview Weekend, the students come from Thurs to Sun, or somewhere in between, and basically we all have to ignore them on Thursday night, because we have so much work due Friday (once again, I go to MIT!). We have regular classes Thurs and Fri, so that the "pre-frosh" get a chance to go to classes that interest them, if they want. And the students definitely stay on campus. I live in a quad and we had 3 pre-frosh, making a grand total of no floor space and 7 people sleeping in one room. The point is to give them an idea of what it might be like if they came to MIT, so of course they stay in dorms/frats/sororities and we keep our regular, class-and-work filled schedules. (The same is true for evvvvvery other campus preview weekend. I didn't end up going to Brown's equivalent, or I could tell you exactly what That is like).

this show just lets me down more and more each week...the best thing that could happen would be for them to end up at different schools as to expand the storylines more and make them interesting at least...
