CSI: NY - Super Men

CSI: NY; CBS; Gary Sinise; Melina
Kanakaredes(S02E19) I thought this episode was kind of corny. But I suppose all the CSI shows are to some extent. The titles are always a cute little play on one of the cases, usually done so to get a laugh. Such was the case here as the bodies of a Superman wannabe and recently drafted NFL player were found.

Did anyone else notice that this episode had a ton of canned lines though? Every episode does, especially Caruso over on CSI: Miami, but for whatever reason this episode had a boatload and they all fell flat. "Let's tackle this!" "Time for us to use our super powers!" Ugh, it was hard to watch at certain points.

There were a few things that stood out though. Being a die-hard Boston Celtics fan, the death of the football player on the night he was drafted did nothing except force me to relive the horrible event that was Len Bias. Bias OD'ed after being selected with the second pick in the draft. I hate thinking about it.

Next up was the return of Tommy Pino. We hadn't seen him since this episode way back in December. As you may recall, he wears a NY Giants jersey under his lab coat. So it made sense to see him around when the opportunity to autopsy a top college football player presented itself. On top of that, I got a little curious about Sid since we only saw him briefly in the beginning of the episode. I had no idea, but according to the CSI: NY Wikipedia entry, Sid was a chef who recently dropped that career to become a medical examiner. Weird, I don't remember that being revealed?

I didn't really like the story about the escaped mental patient moonlighting as a superhero. I was far more compelled by the football player case. I felt really bad for the father in the end. I mean, Terrell (I think that was the player's name) walked away from a car accident while a girl died inside. That's bogus, who does that? But it's good to know that if I shove a bike pump needle into my throat, then I'm probably going to die. Also, no mention of Aiden's rapist. I still think that's going to play a large role in the last few episodes though.
