Gervais likes American TV comedies more than British

Hey, me too!
Great interview in the UK
edition of
GQ (
it's up at Gervais' site) where they talk
about everything from
The Office to
The Simpsons to the state of British television to his home life
and the fact that he wears "unremarkable" V-neck sweaters, T-shirts, and trousers.
Any of our
overseas friends want to dispute his claims, or do you agree with him?
(Oh, and does anyone know what
"abstemious" means?)

Can't agree with Mr Gervais more, British TV is in a sorry state, the exception comedy wise probably being 'Extras'
The Sopranos, The Shield, Lost, 24, CSI, The Simpsons et al.... Need I go on??

You do realize that it would require less typing to Google "define: abstemious" than to ask for a definition on your blog, don't you? I mean, I'm all about laziness, but you can be efficiently lazy.

I can think of two awesome (non-Ricky Gervais related British shows) off the top of my head. Ideal, and The Mighty Boosh. I've never really enjoyed any British Dramas I've seen, but they have some good cult comedy, like the shows I just mentioned. A lot of mainstream American comedies suck as well. Friends, Two and A Half Men, and any show about a stand up comedian and his/her quirky family that live in the suburbs. So Lets here it for the cult comedy in both lands

I wonder if Gervais has even seen Nighty Night... or The Thick of It... or Nathan Barley... or Green Wing... there are so much more exceptional British TV-comedy today than a couple of years ago, when The Office was outstanding. Extras was great but there were at least four UK series that was better and more original (the ones I mentioned).
