Thief: Everything That Rises Must Converge

Thief; F/X; Andre Braugher; Photo Credit - Eric Liebowitz(S01E03) Nick Atwater sees dead people. Not exactly the thing you want in your head when you're planning to rob the US Government of $40 million. Keeping up the pace of the last two episodes, the heist is still a go. Nick seems less confident about it though. After all, the crew has only been planning for a week and it all goes down in only eleven more days.

This episode was essentially an obstacle course for Nick and his boys. Everything that's going to get in their way presented itself (or themselves). Let's just say, for this heist to go off smoothly and without a hitch, a lot of things need to fall into place.

With everything that's going on though, that's looking less and less likely. Tammi appears to have no desire to even try and give Nick a chance. Detective Hayes knows about Nick and the money they stole now. Nick is forced to visit an old friend since he now lacks the financial backing of Roz. Vincent (the Chinese mob guy) has used Roz's phone to track Nick. Gabo is preoccupied with his current fling, a married woman named Lila. And to top it off, Elmo is suggesting that something be done about Tammi because he just doesn't trust her. This coming from a man with four kids of his own and a fifth on the way.

Simply put, absolutely nothing is going well right now. Thus far, that's one of the aspects I've enjoyed so much about this show. There's so much going on with so many levels of story, yet it really doesn't feel overwhelming. The episodes run smoothly and all the different elements connect logically.

We're already halfway through the season though. I'm curious to see how it'll be tied up, whether or not we'll be left with a cliffhanger. For now though, I'm looking forward to next week's episode to see how the replica airplane cargo bay that Billy Ray (I think that was his name) is building for Nick at his scrap metal yard. For this to work, the crew is going to need as much practice as they can get. Because right now, no one's head seems to be in the game.
