(S01E07) Surpise! Did everybody's TiVos or DVRs catch Conviction last night? Mine didn't!
Luckily, I was flipping through the channels and I saw that it was on. TiVo is currently in a time out.So, NBC put Conviction on a Tuesday night where Law & Order: SVU usually airs. This is obviously a ploy to get the SVU crowd interested in Dick Wolf's new ADA lovefest (seriously, the guy is in love with prosecuting attorneys). The problem is, it's very different than the procedural drama that we know as Law & Order. Could you imagine tuning in last night for the first time and wondering who on earth all these people are? Sheesh. This special edition of Conviction re-introduced us to the main character, Nick Potter. While walking in Washington Heights late at night, he gets a gun pointed in his face and his wallet stolen. He almost gets shot because he keeps looking at the robber's face, but instead the robber beats him up pretty good. That was one big, fat lip! This storyline doesn't make any headway until the very end when Potter refuses to identify the robber in a line-up (even though we all know he was there). Why didn't he identify the guy? Is it because of his dad?
Once again we're treated to the "this is just sex" relationship talk between ADA Jessica Rossi and DDA James Steele. Ho hum. Rossi tries a rape case where a man kidnapped a woman and tortured her for 56 hours. The part where Christina Finn casually mentions the victim's nails is ridiculous. We know from past episodes that Finn is smart enough to figure something like that out for herself. Anyway, it turns out the rape victim probably staged the abuse photos three weeks after she was attacked. She lies on the stand about why her nails weren't chipped after a weekend of torture and gets a conviction.
Steele tries a case where a man is accused of killing another man over a stock sale. This was by far the most boring storyline of the episode. The defense argued that the man commited suicide and Steele starts to doubt the defendant's guilt. He carries on with the trial and gets his conviction. Like Rossi, he feels no victory with this verdict but a chat with the defense lawyer later on makes him think the guy was guilty after all.
ADA Brian Peluso is moving in with a girl who is no good for him. She's rich and he's working hard to keep up with her expensive tastes. He returns to gambling in order to pay for the apartment that they're getting together. And it turns out his girlfriend, Lisa, is cheating on him. Well, good. It's the slap in the face he needed to walk away from that bitch. He tries to find solace in a date with Christina Finn, but she forgets about him and makes a date with a hot gynecologist who was a witness in her case.
Another new Conviction is on at the regular time this Friday.

I would like everyone to listen to the song used to promote this show. It's called "All will be well" it was done by the Gabe Dixon band and it is a wonderful song of reaffirmation and never giving up. I know that you will find it to be as much of a gift as I have. It touched the core of my being.

Funny, that's exactly what I did. But then I turned it off and went to bed early. So you're saying it was worth staying up for?
