(S06E05) Wow, Allegra is getting married? Where exactly did that come from? This was the first stretch of this season for me, as it just seemed to be kind of random, and perhaps somehow engineered by Johnny in an effort to get things done - yeah, I know ,that's a stretch, too. It looks like Rusty (Frankie Valli) isn't going to make it much longer - whether Tony gets involved or not. This show also brought to light some of the better quotes of the season so far, including a huge one from Tony himself, some silliness from Vito, and a comical interaction between Johnny and Tony while sitting with Johnny's elderly relatives at the wedding.
The pressure that Meadow is now being hit with from her father with regard to getting married and having children came out this week, something I'd been expecting. Tony is very much looking forward to being able to bounce his grandkids on his knee, and doesn't seem like he thinks he might make it that far along. Carmela has gone from looking rough with her husband in the hospital to flat out glowing this week. She's not only glowing at Tony, but seems more and more confident now that he's up and at 'em.
As far as what I'm so excited to see get some progress, Vito getting snagged by a few of the boys at a homosexual club was not how I thought this would go down, but that's what happened. The writers, of course, threw us all for a loop showing him leave the house with his gun, and his call to Sil in the middle of the night to "check on things" can't bode well for him. He's already got Tony on his ass after what Carm said last week about "keeping an eye" on him, and now he's not around when the boss has rolled into the office. He's not one to make it much longer, and I most certainly hope that he doesn't take the easy way, like Eugene. His statement of "it's a joke!" to the crew while he was seen in his leather gear was possibly the dumbest excuse I've heard for anything, making me think way too much of Shaggy's "It Wasn't Me."
Melfi is racking up the visits from the Soprano clan, with Tony being in her office twice in one episode. The quote of the season so far has got to be "I'm going to ask this up front. Any chance of a mercy f*ck?" and I'm not sure anything could possibly top it. Even better was the look on his face when he says it.
The up and down of this week was curious, with Tony looking weak at the beginning of the wedding ceremony when he almost faints outside the church, and his coming back to power as Johnny backs down in basically begging Tony to whack Rusty, and culminating with his loud crying as he is walked down the driveway with the U.S. Marshals. Tony finishes that flip-flop when he whips his new bodyguard's ass, only after staring at the non-buff bodies in his crew, contrasting with the new guy's ripped biceps. Is he forseeing the various lack of respect conversations that he's had (including Christopher's commentary about the outsourcing of Rusty's hit to some Naples boys) as something he needs to head off, perhaps showing his old self coming back.
If the whole crew isn't going to be seeing an early demise, with Vito's probable death and Paulie's likely problem because of his treatment of the Barone kid, then it's going to be some rough going for a while. Johnny looking to pawn off a hit on his own crew to the Jersey boys probably won't work out well, and it should be a reminder to all of you that Furio Giunta is from Naples - where Tony has asked for the hitters to be called in from. I won't take too much of a flyer on his return, but this would knot up nicely should he make it back to the States.

Hey
Is there anybody who knows which song the band are playing in the wedding when the newly married couple do their first dance? It's a very slow, good song

Furio is gone and isn't coming back...Tony made it clear that if he's found he's a gonner.
As for this line:"I'm going to ask this up front. Any chance of a mercy f*ck?", I nearly fell out of my seat...I was hysterical laughing.
Good episode...

No way is Furio returning. Tony said he was in hiding and that if he showed up there were people to take care of him. It may have been posturing on his part, but I highly doubt we will be seeing our favorite pony-tailed boy from Naples.

Good episode on the whole.
I was a little surprised that Vito just didn't go out and kill those 2 guys to save his secret.

Of course, most of my thoughts on Furio were driven by Christopher and Tony's convo in the previews for next week, when after we see one of the hitters, there's some dialogue like "you're never going to believe this." But that's probably Vito-related, if anything. Just a thought, trying to pull together the pieces. Because now that Tony's looking much more healthy, there's not much that will bring him down as a person right now except the return of his wife's former love interest.

I said to my wife half way through that by the end of the show Junior and Vito will be dead. When Junior looked around his room it reminded me of Red from Shawshank redemption, even though it was very different, i feel he will realize its all over and hang himself. and Vito also has got to be dead. Not sure why he called Silvio. He knows they'll all find out soon. He'll either go and have those two guys killed or realize its too late and shoot himself.
Another great episode.

Brooks is who you are thinking of.
Excellent movie :)
As per the your never going to believe this, I assume it's vito related. Funny, last weeks previews I thought the statement, about being week and seeing what else they can make him do was spoken of Tony...nice use of the previews to throw us off.

Something that wasn't mentioned in the episode summary is the issue that Tony continue to deal with. The near-death experience has changed Tony. The way I see it, he is wrestling with whether he wants to be in this world (the mob) or something else. It has deep overtones of this inner turmoil as he enters Satriales for the 1st time and sees the same gang, doing the same thing and he really isn't into it. I find this to be a most interesting story arc . . . does anyone else see this inner turmoil thing or is it just me?

Tool - I definitely didn't mention it here, but I have mentioned in previous weeks. This week, I feel more and more like he's leaning towards the mobster side (beating down the 1st runner up from Bloomfield), but he's having his soft moments, such as the one with Meadow having kids, too. It's definitely there, but I think because of all the issues going on and the potential that he could "look bad" to his guys that Tony is definitely making sure his hard side is the exterior, for the most part.

dont forget that (devious) smile he gave himself in the mirror after beating up the driver (and vomiting blood). He really enjoyed the satisfaction he got from it. The more he engages in these actions, the more he'll remember the "satisfaction", however fleting it may be, that he gets from being the boss, who everyoe fears and respects. I think soon he'll forget the turmoil and will be right where he started

I agree. However, I thought him beating his new bodyguard was a perfect ending to the episode. Earlier Tony saw how quick everyone turned on Johnny after he cried at his daughter's wedding. Tony definately does not want everyone to turn on him so beating up the YOUNGEST, MOST FIT man in the room shows that he is the alpha male. So if anyone that was thinking that Tony is weak, will be questioning this assumption now. Also, he knew that the bodyguard would be the only one to fight back (remember earlier in the episode his quick temper and is quote that his mom told him he needs to count 10.)

Thank you. Johnnymac. I've been saying "What about the russian?" for a couple years. I guess for the most part it fell on deaf ears. I think that's going to be one of the huge suprises next January when the final shows air.

i cant believe you guys are still talking about the russian. he's not coming back. it would make no sense and david chase has already said so. does anyone really think 7 years of work on this show will end with a russian guy killing Tony? you can do better than that.

They may have just wanted us to think Vito was going to kill himself. Eugene just did that--seems like too many mob suicides to me. My bet is that Vito may decide his only "power move" at this point is to testify for the Feds. Lose a little more weight, fit into a smaller pair of leather chaps--an interesting Witness Protection persona, no?!

Another great episode & one of the funniest lines in the entire series with the question posed to Melfi by Tony, that was a classic. When Tony told Chris about someone from Naples coming over to whack Rusty, Furio was the first person to come to mind.I doubt that he will but if he does, it will be interesting how they play that out. Vito is going bye-bye, but how? How about that get-up he was wearing...........STUNNING, LOL.
Philly seems to be irritated because of the way Johnny Sac cried like he did in front of everyone. That could be yet another interesting twist. And finally, how come nobody tried to catch Ginny Sac when she fainted?

Well, if we're throwing out plot ideas...
Vito is offed, one way or the other. Upon hearing about it, Phin will realize he no longer needs the protection of being Tony's future son-in-law and manages to get out of his engagement to Meadow (with hopes he can do it without getting killed).
This frees Meadow up to start dating the Barone kid - was I the only one who noticed interest from both of them in that hospital scene when they met? And that will add fuel to the fire for Tony's eventual confrontation with Paulie.
But whatever happens, I'm along for the ride!
