(S01E05) Can a man with three wives love them all equally? From what I gathered in this
episode, it doesn't seem so. Bill and Barb definitely spent a lot of time getting busy with each other. One now begins
to wonder why exactly does Bill have three wives anyway? He has made a few "Scripture-ish" references over
the last few weeks, but it doesn't seem to make any sense.
It isn't a stretch to say that both Nicki and Margene are both major pains in the a**, are very needy, and don't seem very mature or capable of any independent thought. Again, after viewing what has been going on so far in these first five episodes, it seems that many of the "sister-wives" of the other polygamists we've come to know (Roman, Don, etc.) are extremely subservient to their husbands and are either "brainwashed" or just haven't been exposed to any other way of life.
This whole situation becomes even stranger when Bill and Don decide to call the Utah Attorney General's
"Polygamy Czar" to alert him of Roman's suspicious activities vis-a-vis some shady real estate deals to
unsuspecting senior citizens. As Bill said in the last episode, he's taking his fight to Roman, and things are going to
get a lot heavier as the season moves forward. Seems a bit hypocritical when a polygamist tattles on another one?
Let's not forget that one of Bill's employees makes an accusation about Don and his family situation, which leads to a veiled threat from one of his wives about this employee's future at the company. Also, Margene has bonded with their neighbor across the street, which raises the ire of both Barb and Nicki about any unwanted attention about their living situation.
But it all boils down to the fact that Bill has true love for Barb, and is willing to go to extremes to be with her. (In fact, as you might gather, he's having an "affair" with his own wife.) Nicki has gotten very suspicious over Bill's actions, but announces at the end of the episode that "another soul" is about to enter the family. (One would guess that she's pregnant, but one can never be too sure about this group.) In additon, she actually shows some gumption by warding off the harassement from her brother Alby, who comes across as a ne'er do well son of Roman's who may be capable of doing harm to the Henricksons down the road.
There were more plot turns in this episode than a ride down San Francisco's Lombard Street, but this seemed to be the best one so far. Bill's fight with Roman is going to get nastier, and all of the attention being paid to polygamy should be coming to a head soon enough.

My understanding was that he started reconsidering plural marriage after barb had the cervical cancer and couldnt have more children.
Which leads me to my question... Nicki found a condom wrapper, which is why she suspected that Bill had another girlfriend. But he was really having sex with Barb. But barb can't get pregnant. Plot hole?

Not a plot hole, the wrapper she found was the wrapper to the hotel soap that bill grabbed when he and Barb had their little romantic getaway at the hotel.
And I don't see an issue with him ratting out Roman, he's only addressing the issue of the shady bis deals, not Polygamy.

Was it a condom wrapper that Nikki found? I thought it was the soap wrapper from the hotel. Remember that he took the small soaps from the hotel when he a Barb were leaving?

I was wondering about Nicki being pregnant when last week she was having a horrible, horrible period. Now she's pregnant? How much time supposedly elapsed?
Would have to be a minimum of 2 weeks, even if she got pregnant immediately following the period, which isn't likely.

She isn't Pregnant, she WANTS to be Pregnant, mainly to take attention away from Barb.

Im not sure that Nikki is pregnant. I believe she said that "she would like to bring another soul into the family". Which tells me that she is letting everyone know that she wants another baby.
My question is, how will Nikki explain her pregnancy to the neighbors if she doesnt have a husband? The neighbors are already suspicious of Barb, Nikki and Margene. Wouldnt this raise flag?

ITS A WONDER THAT BILL HASN'T GONE BLIND WITH ALL THE VIAGRA HE INGESTS. THE SHOW IS SO DARN WEIRD THAT I HAVE TO WATCH IT THE NIGHT AFTER I WATCH THE SOPRANOS. MY BRAIN CAN'T PROCESS THE INFORMATION FROM BOTH SHOWS. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THAT PROBLEM? IF NOT, USE YOUR ON DEMAND AND WATCH SOPRANO'S, FOLLOWED BY THE OLD "OZ" RERUNS, AND THEN "SIX FEET UNDER".

I agree with Phantomprophet. Nicky is jealous because Barb is getting all the attention. If she wants to get pregnant then Bill is going to have to spend extra time with her. I thought the way Bill fell back in love with Barb was so sweet.
I love "Big Love". I kept forgetting it was on so I only started watching it this weekend but I managed to watch 5 episodes in 2 days and now I can't wait for the next episode. It is is well written, well filmed and so realistic.

A fantastic show....I just wonder how people that have never been exposed to Mormon culture catch all the religous references...and there are a lot of them! The wrapper that was found was a soap wrapper, and no, Nikki isn't pregnant..she is just letting everyone know that she will be trying...I think her trying all the time and maybe some infertility, will guarentee her place in Bill's eyes for a while. I love this show. And yes, even Godly folks lives can live like a soap opera!
