America's favorite troubled teenager might be walking away from her job. Rumors are
flying that Mischa Barton has had enough of her role as Marissa Cooper on The O.C.
Supposedly, Barton is worried about being type-cast as well as the show's mediocre ratings. I suppose I can't blame her for being ticked off about the ratings. Stacking this show (any show for that matter) against CSI is going to hurt eventually. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this season ends. It'll be weird if Marissa is involved with any sort of cliffhanger only to be absent when the next season rolls around. If she does leave, the show just won't be the same. Anyone think it would work without her?

Good God, let's hope she leaves. Bland, bland, bland.

that's funny... as i was watching the beginning of this last episode, i was thinking "maybe Sadie can stay and Marissa can go away... how great would that be?" because, you know, i'm so freakin' sick of her! but, alas, Sadie is gone. Marissa/Mischa going is still sounding good though.

I have to say that in the beginning of "The O.C." Mischa Barton was the only reason I tuned in. I had seen her in "Lawndogs", "The Sixth Sense" and especially "Lost And Delirious" and thought she was a terrific young actress. And Season 1 I liked her (and began liking the rest of the cast), but with Season 2 I really really got bored either by the way Mischa's character is written or the way she decided to act. Sadly this is the way I feel about all the characters (though I really liked Samaire Armstrong as "Anna" and now the new character "Sadie"), Mischa's is just extreme.
So I don't really think I would miss "Marissa", but I think I would miss drooling over Mischa ;-)

She should take all the writers with her when she goes. This season has sucked.

Well, if she leaves, The College Years is a good time for her to go. And her and Ryan's relationship is now so played out and fizzled out, why NOT get rid of her?

So, clearly, from what everyone says--including Mischa--the problem is not Mischa but the WRITERS. Because Marissa is pathetic and boring. That doesn't mean Mischa should go. There's an easy compromise and, perhaps, it's also a way to get the ratings back up. The writers just need to take Marissa in a different directly, obviously. They need to quit circling around her and Ryan being together and breaking up and Marissa getting with the wrong guys and doing crazy things. It's boring and uncreative. The writers will be the death of this show--it has been pretty bad for a while now.

I think it's all the writers fault. They wrote her into a druggie girl that no one likes. Fix this in the script and it'd be better. No Marissa, no OC. It won't work with three.

Actually they should cancel the OC, period...and start a Julie Cooper Nichol show. The Juju we used to know in season 1 and 2, the Julie we all loved to hate. I used to like Seth and Summer but now it seems every dialogue, every storyline is so hollow. Kirsten and Sandy used to be so great. There was an incredible chemistry between the main actors. They seemed to have so much fun. Now, they all look bored. The magic has gone. This show hasn't much to offer anymore, which is sad. Indeed, the writers are killing the show.

I actually think the show has been pretty good lately. I think there's no where to go with Mischa. She can't do the funny... and she can only play tragic for so long. I think if she left it could actually open the show up and give it some real possibility again.

The problem this season has definitely been the writers, but the problem since season one has been Mischa Barton since...well, the girl can't act. I mean, she really REALLY can't act. It's painful to watch her. Really really painful.
I was sorry to see Sadie go last week, as she seemed like the nearest thing to a sane person that show has seen in months. And I remember thinking, "What if Marissa just went away, too? How could that be made a reality"?
So, Mischa, if you want to walk--go wild, girl. But just don't try to ACT wild. Because that's just freakin' painful.

i dont think that Mischa should leave the OC. the writers of the show need to make a change. people are going to get bored watching marissa just do drugs drink and have sex all the time. every character on the show looks bored they need to make something exciting happen like have them go on a drama free vacation. the drama in the show is good but sometimes the writers go overboard and kill it with too much drama. they need to really think about a new approach to the show or this might be the end of the OC

I do not think that Mischa/Marissa should go. Although lately I haven't liked her but, the show just wouldn't be the same without her. She is a good actress and keeps the drama flowing on the show. I also do not think that the show should end. I love it. It's mine and my friends favorite show.

What I don't understand about most of these comments is that most of you seem to not like the show. Why do you even care whether or not Mischa stays or go then? My personal opinion is I think that she should stay to see what develops between Marissa and the "bad ass" guy..I can't remember his name.

I think the show needs Marissa but the writers need to come up with a more interesting character for her or there will be no more oc which would REALLY suck!! I also think they should make julie go back to her old ways and bring luke back causing marissa to fall back in love with him since her and ryan aren't together anymore and she's probably going to break off her realtionship with vulcheck.
