Who knew that
Earl Hickey was such a stud muffin? Before his ex-wife Joy came along six years ago, Earl had an intense three-week
relationship with Jessie (played by the excellent Juliette Lewis). While hanging out in the local bar, a pregnant and
desperate Joy manages to steal Earl away. Later on, Earl and Joy end up becoming husband and wife.
Cut to the
present, and Jessie, still working in the bail bondsman's offices, still lacking those front teeth, and apparently
still angry over what happened, overhears that Joy never showed up for a traffic court appearance. Jessie decides to
become a bounty hunter in order to bring her in, and trains intensely to the sound of the lost 80's classic,
"Lunatic Fringe" by Red Rider. (This show continues to brilliantly use music at key moments.) She also gets
new front teeth to go with her "Dog, the Bounty Hunter" look.
Jessie is on the hunt to track down Joy, who is being protected by Earl at their old "vacation home" (an abandoned RV) in the woods. Joy finally tells Earl the truth of how she got him to marry her. (Apparently, Metallica tickets can cause intense spats between lovers.) We finally get to see some real humanity out of Joy when she apologizes to Earl, and then she crosses off number 45 on his list--"ditched Jessie to marry Joy." At the end, we learn that Joy is as tough as nails, and Jessie needs some more real-world training and less "Kung Fu Fighting."
This was one of the better Earl episodes I've seen in a while. The writers kept from having Randy spout out too many non-sequitors, and it was a good, tight story. My only beef was that there was no sign of Catalina, but hopefully we'll see a lot more of her next week. With the end of the "regular" TV season around the corner, I'll be interested to see if there is any type of "cliffhanger" that will keep viewers wondering over the summer. Maybe a reappearance of the college professor Earl had a fling with a few episodes back? Hmmm...

I'm freaking out, can you tell?
Not really.
I had a cocktail.
I think anyone who doesn't like this show needs a 35-second bum hug.

Agreed, great assesment. Right on with the comments about being one of the best episodes and the brilliant use of music. Best show on regular networks by far.

100% of Auction Proceeds to Benefit Forest Reents Foundation
NEW YORK - April 17, 2006 - A walk-on role on the NBC hit comedy “My Name is Earl,” tickets to “Saturday Night Live,” a “Today” show VIP behind-the scenes-tour and many other unique items are up for grabs in the 2006 NBC Universal All-Star Charity Auction.
The auction will kick off on NBC’s “Today” show on Wednesday, April 19th with a segment highlighting the extraordinary items being offered. One hundred percent of this year’s proceeds will go to The Forest Reents Foundation, which provides support to children fighting cancer. Bidders can log on to NBCUniversalStore.com for the chance to win great merchandise and unforgettable experiences.
"We are honored to be part of this auction that not only allows viewers to have the total NBC experience, but traditionally raises a substantial amount of money for a very good cause," said "Today" show executive producer Jim Bell.
The NBC Universal All-Star Charity Auction will feature an assortment of items from all of NBC Universal’s properties, including NBC Entertainment, USA, Sci Fi, Bravo, Universal Studios and NBC News. Among the unique list of offerings are walk-on roles for “My Name is Earl” and “Medium” and backstage visits to the sets of “Today” and the Broadway hit “Wicked.” Fans can bid for tickets to be part of the live audience at a taping of “Saturday Night Live,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” as well as a Universal Pictures movie premiere. Memorabilia being auctioned will be on display at the NBC Experience Store in New York City beginning on April 19th. Last year’s event raised over $130,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. This marks the 5th year that NBCU has conducted the auction, which raises money for various charities. The NBC Experience Store is a high-tech retail attraction, located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, across from the “Today” show’s window on the world.
"We are very excited and honored to be the selected charity for the NBC Universal All-Star Charity Auction,” said Scott Reents, President, Forest Reents Foundation, Inc. “Proceeds from the auction will allow the foundation to expand our reach and further our goals of ‘Providing Smiles Today and Finding a Cure for Tomorrow’ for children with cancer.”

About The Forest Reents Foundation, Inc:
The Forest Reents Foundation was formed in July 2005 to honor Forest Reents and bring his positive spirit to other children fighting cancer, especially those undergoing bone marrow transplants. At the age of four, Forest was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After a five-year fight, Forest passed away on August 15, 2004. The foundation’s goal is to assist these children by ‘providing a smile today and finding a cure for tomorrow.’ In an effort to support these children and their families in their fight, the foundation sponsors events, such as Forest's Fun Night, where stores, including the NBC Experience Store, are closed to the public to provide patients and their families with an evening to have fun. The money raised by the foundation also provides financial assistance to families impacted by pediatric oncology, and helps fund research. For more information, log on to forestreentsfoundation.org.
