This is the part of the season where
Ryan gets creative with his elimination torture. Seacrest is the master of the long and tedious elimination. I wonder
if, when he was in high school, he put his girl(?)friends through the same emotional rollercoaster ride before
telling them that they would not be his prom date. Naw, no way. Seacrest was probably too nice a guy,
too much of a dork to ask any girl to prom.
I will not put you through that same amount of torture -- Mandisa is out. I'm surprised, but not saddened by it. She was a great performer, but just didn't have enough personality to take her all the way. And what she lacked in personality, she made up for in big booty. Big boobs can get you to the top, but not a big butt. A big butt can only get you to about the middle. (Unless you're riding the coattails of P. Diddy...cough, cough....J.Lo) Plus, with Elliott and Paris joining her in the bottom three, no way was I rooting for Mandisa to stay.
You know who should have been in the bottom three? Kenny Rogers. He just doesn't have it anymore. I could make a lame he needs to "know when to hold 'em, and know when to fold 'em" joke here, but I'm not. Instead, I'm going to abruptly change the subject, and even more abruptly end this post. When is it going to be Dolly Parton night on American Idol? How great would it be to have Dolly Parton on? Her and Kellie could have a calamari giggle-off.

I never expected Mandisa to win AI...She is talented, but there are a few far more talented contestants in the competition. What saddens me is that she did not get voted off at this point in the game for her lack of talent, but her size. As there are better performers than her, there are also ones that are far, far worse that still remain in her stead.
I am not just coming out of left-field with this belief. I listen to lots of radio (talk and music of varying genres) when they discuss AI, and when the conversation turns to Mandisa, the talk show hosts/dj's almost always gloss over her performance, if they even bring it up at all, and go straight to her weight. She could sing better than anyone else on stage that night, but it is for nought because she is a plus-sized woman. People who listen to these shows and their size prejudiced propaganda begin to see it their way and vote accordingly.
I actually cried when Mandisa got cut tonight because it was against her and Elliot. I figured Elliot for the goner because even though he shows great talent (as does Mandisa), he faltered last night. His song was hesitant, his notes were all over the scale, and he stood on stage like a scared little boy singing for a elementary school production. I was dumbfounded when Mandisa's name was called.
It just seems such a shame that Kelly Pickler, who (purposefully or otherwise) acts like an absolute imbecile is still in the running while beautiful, intelligent and talented Mandisa is not.
I can only pray from my heart of hearts that one day in AI or even better, in the world at large people will stop judging a woman's worth by her clothing size and more by her mind, spirit and heart. I know, this dream will probably never come true, but I won't stop wishing for it.

I think it was, her size, all the religious talk she would always say, and the controversy of her not like gays that got her kicked off.

Does anybody else hate these "theme" nights? I think they are as cheesie as it gets and Kenny Rogers week was the cheese de la cheese! Nobody ever asked Carly Simon or Whitney Houston or Neil Young, for Pete's sake, to sing anything other than what they were good at singing. So why on earth are they making these contestants sing junk that doesn't suit their voices or their personal styles? It makes for bad television and a bad contest.
I mean, honestly, is anybody surprised that Mandisa, who is a kick a@@ soul/gospel singer can't sing a hokey rendition of "any man of mine?" I don't get why Simon acts like it was all so excruciating for him. Doesn't he have any control of what is done on that show? If he hates country music so bad, don't do country night, or get a guest on there that has withstood the test of time. I think Dolly would be a great idea actually, or how about Emmy Lou Harris? Kenny Rogers was a complete train wreck!

But you did make a lame "Know when to hold'em, know when to fold'em" joke. You just tried to get around it by saying you weren't going to make the joke.

As long as they are having "theme" nights I think Wayne Newton would be great to have on and believe he would be happy to meet with and advise the group.
I don't understand why the singers are required to do songs that are not in their area of expertise, doesn't make sense. The show is suppose to be about how well they sing and in the real world they would stick to what works for their voice, personality, etc
Since the judges often don't like the song choices why don't judges submit a list of songs they like and let the group choose from that list.

So next week is Queen night? Will Chris and Bucky get in a fist fight over who gets to sing "We Will Rock You"? Will Ace use his falsetto to pull off "Under Pressure"? Will Kellie attempt "Bohemian Rhapsody" and then tells us that she can't find Bohemia on a map? If only Chicken Little was still around, he could totally pull off "We Are The Champions".
I can't wait till next week!

Mandisa was good,, but not good enough to win. I am surprised to see her go this early, though. I'm definitely shocked to see Elliot in the bottom three.. he is absolutely one of the 2 or 3 best SINGERS in the SINGING contest. .. Last,, for the record,, it was Country Week.. not Kenny Rogers Week.. not one person sang a Kenny Rogers Song. Thanks

Wow! I can't believe Mandisa is gone. People, let's remember that in order for the contestants to remain...you have to pick up the phone and call. This may sound trite, but every vote counts. She's gone because not enough people called to vote for her. Simple as that.

Yes! Elliot ends up in the bottom three...
I think Mandisa out was great. The show is called American Idol, not "best undiscovered singer". It's all about Pop appeal. It's no secret why past winners Kelly, and Carrie do well (and even #2 Clay)- they are pleasant to look at. Where are Rueben and Fantasia? This is the whole nature of the music business these days, especially for women.
No way was Mandisa moving much further. Looks work against Elliot too.

I agree with Mary - and the choice of themes - Judges are always telling the contestants "wrong song choice" but what about "wrong theme choice" - And, if this is American Idol, why have them sing OLD stuff that no body listens to anymore.
Queen night should be interesting, but I doubt they will pick any of the more popular songs, that we would know - That's another thing, I hardly know ANY of the songs they sing from these artist - The only Stevie, Barry and Kenny songs I know are the most popular ones and they don't sing those.
I thought Ace, Katherine and Bucky would be the bottom three, but that would have been too predictable - Do you think it's fixed at all?????
I mean, was Paris and Elliot really in the bottom three too????? Although, I'm not an Elliot fan, I felt bad when he was standing there. Although, I'm a Mandisa fan, I didn't feel bad for her - She's a strong woman and can handle it. She's very, very pretty, has a great voice,,,,And, again your right Mary,,, how are they supposed to sing this old crap - All the "theme" celebrites are MALE - Isn't that unfair too???????

I am sorry people, but this is American Idol, not the CBS nightly News. In 5 years who will remember any of these people? No talent show, no matter how slick is going to pick the next Janis Joplin or Jim Morrison. That will be someone who has spent their time singing in dives and dumps and securing a loyal following from work, persistence and pure talent.

After reading the comments ,i'm amazed that any of you realize that American Idol started out as a TALENT SHOW not a popularity contest..... Mandisa was the BEST FEMALE SINGER this season....regardless of her weight or any personal comments about religion, etc....and lets remember...she was asked certain questions ,,and was honest about her feelings.... like most singers, actors, etc...on television ... her comments was discussed ,,and some of you were not happy...Oh well.....
Ace is only still on the show because of popularity , and his all-american look....NOT RAW VOCAL SKILLS..Thank got CHICKEN LITTLE- was voted off... What was that about?
Kelly Pickler comes off as a COUNTRY HILLBILLY who has never been to the big city...but has a really great voice.....and not very versatile as for as singing different styles of songs.... Bucky ....is not versatile singer & needs White Strips on his teeth badly....very boring..Why is he still there?
I agree that the Theme night SUCKS at times...Mandisa song choice was not the most popular...but she did carry the song Vocally....SIZE doesnt matter....
Kelly Clarkson competition was voted off...which left Mr Popular - Justin......what is he doing now?.....not including the fact that Kelly has forgotten how she was discovered (undiscovered talent)..... Clay Aiken...please....he has a certain style & core group of fans...but dont get it twisted.....he's weird & confused...Cari Underwood great singer...No real competition Vocally last year...
Remember readers American Idol is suppose to be the Best undiscovered singer, and performer in the U.S.....not America's cutest

Even if she was not a plus size black female it would still be some critizism regardless. They are not going to allow another black singer to become America's next idol.Ruben and Fantasia were bashed and critized it's just the way of world.

Lacy Hall comments about Mandisa starts off with criticism about her Butt & no personality? What drugs are you smoking? Your a PATHETIC HATER.... American Idol is suppose to be a Talent show....not a popularity contest....
I've read the comments posted, and still dumb founded that you people don't know what VOCAL RANGE or PURE TALENT is...Mandisa's supposed remarks about Gay's or religion has nothing to do with AI Talent show.....and yes JAMTVMAN American Idol has talent searchs for UNDISCOVERED TALENT....DUH....are you smoking drugs also??? Kelly "ungreatfull" clarkson, Confused Clay Aiken are successfull because of pop appeal...please... Cari Underwood is a great singer....you knew if she won she would be a country singer...so why include her in your short list of Pop Appeal past winners and runner-up... You ask where is Fantasia /Reuben at? Comming out with a New Album soon...and still making money.....what about you? Broke...
Last but not least..Ace & Bucky ..both vocally challenged... Ace like justin only there due to popularity votes, Bucky im still confused how he even made it this far.....and please could somone give Bucky & Elliot some WHITE STRIPS

Bye bye, Mandisa. Your butt was simply too big for America's votes. Big boobs will get you everywhere; a big butt gets you voted out. I wouldn't worry for her, however. She'll be fine.
I must say that I'm genuinely excited over next week's show Queen theme. Freddy Mercury could sing, so this round will separate the contestants more than anything.

Kenny Rogers was the perfect pick for the country night theme on AI. He gave wonderful advise to the singers, and then belted out his new song just beautiful. It is a shame that so many people forget that when you get older your looks change. God help all of you when you get older. He had it, and still does. Mandisa is gone and that is a good thing she was never going to make it to the final four. The Kellie bashing is totaly uncalled for. She has a wonderful voice, and stage presance. These mean comments about her being stupid are just mean. She is a down south small town girl. Who cares if she can not say salmon the correct way. It is a food that a lot of people do not eat, and some have never heard of. I mean unless you are Jewish then it is staple in your home. Lay off of her I think Chris, Kellie, and Elliot will be the last three on the show. The winner will be decided when they show us what they have on the next few shows. I can not wait to watch them.
