After seeing tonights episode, I really think Darius and I are onto something with our theories about who's responsible for
the bus crash. However, now I'm wondering if the writers are throwing us a red herring with Beaver's curious reaction
(or lack of reaction) toward Mac. Is Beaver the one who's gay and not Dick, as Darius theorized? Beaver's real estate
dealings play a role in the Mayor's incorporation issues, so I could see him doing it just to make the Mayor's life
miserable. Maybe both Dick and Beaver are working together on something for once? The Mayor clearly seems to have something for guys, or else he's uncomfortably chummy with the high school boys. And as for the video he seemed to want quickly destroyed (or his "gardener" wanted destroyed), I'm sure we'll see something more there once Keith gets a closer look at it. We could be seeing a very creepy connection to all of those little league kids he was coaching.
I actually liked the flashback scene where we hear Weevil's reasons for
staying in school. I'd actually wondered why someone like him would even bother to stick around through senior year,
and he made it pretty clear why.
Did you ever notice that the same poor Asian guy seems to always be on
study hall and detention duty? Maybe he sent the bus over the cliff because he was sick of seeing the kids screw off in
school.
At first I thought what the Fitzpatricks did to Thumper was pretty tame, chaining him to a toilet.
Once I saw the bike attached to the explosives, I knew exactly where he was. How ironic, that Logan gets his revenge on
the real killer and never knows it, while at the same time gets rid of the one person who would've no doubt taken the
fall for the murder he was accused of.
Quote of the episode:
Keith: "Logan?"
Logan: "That's 'honorary deputy county commissioner Echolls' to you."

People who had the theory that the mayor was gay and that he's involved in the bus crash- I'm beginning to think that you're on the right track. After Logan was spotting Woody (maybe he lifted the weights to show off) He playfully squeezed Logan's biceps. A bit of flirting perhaps? And I was so happy to see Logan and Veronica "together" again. Next week I hear there will be flashbacks to last summer when they were dating...Maybe to get us ready for their getting back together? Thumper dying was very shocking. (Yikes, I gasped out loud while watching) I think that the reason Beaver (Or should we call him Cassidy?) Isn't really into hooking up with Mac is because he's behind the rapes at the college from last week. The way he shouted "I know what I'm doing!" when Mac accuses him of being nervous and unexperienced leads me to believe that there's something else going on.

For the record, I'm pretty sure that the Dirty Harry/Dirty Sanchez line was the quote of the episode. :)

While the Dirty Harry line was great, I was a much bigger fan of the "Scout's Honor" quote :)

I agree that the mayor is gay as well, which would mean he's one step closer to the whole bus crash thing. The gay kid on the bus(from versatile toppings)talked about an outing of all oytings, perhaps he had some evidence of the Mayor and Beaver together. It seems likely given the similarity of the investment models that Beaver learnt his business acumen from the mayor as supposed to his dad, who never bonded with him in the first place. They definitely have something going on together. However, Goodman is a red herring because he is way too obvious to be the bad guy here, it must be Beaver who did it, scared to let others know he's gay.(Given his annoyance at Mac for just talking to Veronica, his dad proclaiming him to be the girl in the family, etc) He probably told Goodman as well, and hence the warning to Gia about the bus. As for Felix's murder, that would be Goodman's doing to get the PCHers as well as the Fitzpatricks out for his incorporation plan? (This part of story is too complicated for me!)

So, that's two weeks in a row that Logan's had uncomfortable male bonding sessions - video games with Dick last week, weightlifting with Woody this week - so are the writers just trying to encourage more slash fiction about him? And given that Woody's strange behaviour has come up at the same time as Beaver's, might they be hinting at some connection there?

I'm glad the bridge stabbing is finally making sense. I must say that whole thing with the PCH'ers and the Fitzpatricks was confusing. When they tied Thumper to the toilet I thought, Oh this will be funny kids at school will walk in the bathroom and he'll be embarassed. HOLY CRAP ! Blowing him up was crazy. I did not see that coming.
I was irritated however with once again how girls on this show always take back their cheating man. Like how Wallace's girlfriend (dont remember her name) see's him kissing Jackie. I'm sorry baby, it's ok I forgive you. That's ridiculous. And Veronica better not hook up with Logan, it's the same thing all over again. I was a scumbag, ok I forgive you, let's hold hands.
And the whole Woody and Dick theorys. I think the writers are very wise. I think Woody is def sketchy. But he really wants Terrence free'd, so u got me.

The flashback about Weevil, though--when we last saw his grandmother (early season one), she was still working for the Echolls' (fired, due to events of the episode). The woman couldn't have been older than 70, but eight months later (pre Felix's death), she's just "hanging on" until he graduates?
I don't think Logan cheated on Veronica while they were dating. I was glad to see Veronica and Weevil teaming up again. Weevil and Veronica have always had a strangely honest relationship--you know, despite all the lies. What was Weevil doing in that confessional with the Fitzpatrick priest? Also, Thumper's death was great--and I wonder what Logan's going to think when he finds out he pulled the trigger.
And Cassidy--yikes! I was just beginning to like him, too. I like Rachel's theory that he could be behind the rapes at the college. Just because of where we are in the story, I think it's more likely that it has something to do with the current storyline, but boy, wouldn't that be interesting? I guess I don't see what the point of making him gay would be (if he's gay, why not hint at it when they did the episode about closeted gay students a few weeks ago?), but we'll see, I guess. Woody's too obvious at this point. I think.

The shocker/scout's honor quote was the best for me. Great episode last night and I liked seeing Logan and Veronica together. I got the impression Veronica dumped Logan last year to be with Duncan, not because Logan cheated on her. It's been so long since those episodes, I don't remember.
I do think the Woody being gay theory is going to turn out to be true. He was way too creepy last night, plus it's the B actor in a normally non important role so that usually means killer.

I do appreciate the minor characters and guest stars VM brings in sometimes with their limited time. I thought Jessy Schram did great with her intially shollow & syrupy, but then richly layered and vulnerable "Hannah". Hope if a S3 happens she can cameo. This episode had the evil but quite funny goon "Danny Boyd". And the vapid, endlessly annoying, and irritating Gia ( brilliantly done by Kristen Ritter) driving Logan up the wall.
It really helped that they dispensed with the time-wasting MOTW gimmick for once and focused on the characters and main mysteries. Wonderful extra minutes for the Mac and Weevil characters (Majorino and Capra ROCKED every moment of their screentime!), though Percy Daggs returned to mediocre acting with blowing his 5 minute character development gift. (I think "Cuddly Wallace" is a dispensible sidekick. Better if Veronica had Mac.)
It is good the writers and Bell are finally getting Veronica back to where she is engaged in the main plot and with the other characters, has actual feelings. Too long they had her as an unsympathetic bitch disconnected from the people around her or the main story arcs, chasing the irrelevant MOTW as her main reason for even appearing in an episode. The Duncan romance 1st half of S2 was a boring disaster. Now she is back. Not just with Logan. But the show - no longer the Fennel Family Melodrama, or Logan Angst Hour...has resumed being Veronica Mars & Co.

Also, was the "This is my over the moon face" an intentional nod to the West Wing (Richard Schiff's Toby did the same thing in Season 5's 'Jefferson Lives') or an unintentional one?
I'm doing a West Wing marathon (ok, so its taken 5 weeks so far) of all of the seasons, to finish before the Series Finale, and I just about dropped my sandwich to hear the exact same bit that I heard last night :)

A pretty damn good episode, especially the ending. It's slowly confirming our hypothesis, but at the same time it still has a huge air of uncertainty to it, which I love.
My only comlaint about the episode was that the whole Wallace/Jackie/Wallace's Gal thing felt really rushed, like it was re-written at the last minute or something.

I think there's definitely a connection between Beaver and Woody. Clearly both have some sexual issues, perhaps a prior relationship with one another that someone would blackmail the other about? say with a dvd in the mail...
The mayor would definitely send a bus off a cliff rather than risk sex-with-a-minor-boy dirt coming out before the election. But what is with the incorporation scheme? Didn't we learn a week or two ago that Beav is buying up real estate in the unincorporated part of town? Is he trying to manipulate the price appreciation that will occur when Woody goes to jail and incorporation plans go down the tubes?
Help me people, I feel like it's within our grasp!

The Mayor did it!!!
Versatile Toppings (3/15/2006):
'Mayor' Woody did it to silence his teenage gay lover (Peter Fererre) who was about to 'out' him. - Remember the post on the 'Pirate S.H.I.P.' message board Veronica and Mac found from MizzP about the "outing of all outings".
Plan B (4/5/2006):
Beaver was molested in his youth by his little league coach (the Mayor).
The Mayor made a pass at Logan after he was lifting weights.

I've been build up my theory on other sites and then I come here and find others on the same track. Guess I'll have keep an eye on what you folks think.

I don't think that Beaver's reaction to Mac had anything to do with his being gay; not at all. In the parking lot after the dance, he kept referring to not wanting to be at home with Mac while Dick was there. Especially just before he walked away from her--"It's just...that Dick will be there." We already saw Dick try to force Beav to rape Veronica in season 1. Dick humiliated Beav about sex when he first saw him holding hands with Mac, too. Dick has been playing some serious mind games with poor Beav! And I think it's left him with a lot of...issues. But not homosexuality.
That being said, I agree that the Shocker/Scout's Honor bit was the best random quote, although Logan getting his hand "burned" by the Bible in Woody's office was the best set piece. And, yeah--Woody's got a major pederast vibe going. I tend to agree with him being the target of the "outing of all outings" line, too.

Lots of good stuff. My funniest moment however was after Logan was sworn in and then headed for the door. Woody asked where he was going and Logan said "To fire the sheriff". Good stuff!

I definitely got the impression it has something to do w/ not wanting Mac around big brother and not that he's uninterested in the ladies. As far as the bus crash, all signs point to Woody with the "outing of all outings" message (Versatile Toppings) by someone on the bus, the groping of Logan, his hangar with explosives and whole video thing. Of course, because of all the hints I agree that it's possible if not probably that Officer Mahoney is a red herring.
Regardless of whether Woody is behind the bus crash, the comments have helped convince me he has the same pedophilic tendencies as our DHS workers. How this ties in to the bus crash and Cassidy’s reluctance to get in on w/ Mac are still unclear to me though. Best guess - Cassidy was molested by Woody, Cassidy is understandably messed up about it but Dick assumes Cassidy is just a wuss with the ladies so he tortures him at every opportunity (where the Mac storyline comes in), Cassidy is the one behind the video looking to bring down the Mayor.
Was he supposed to be on the bus? Maybe it was meant for him, w/ Woody wanting to silence Cassidy and not the Pirate S.H.I.P poster? I'm sure I'm 90% wrong but that's part of what makes this the best show on TV.
Damn good episode.

My latest thoughts have been about why would someone force the bus over the cliff if they only wanted to kill one person. What if they wanted to kill more then one?
I'm now leaning towards the idea that Woody (I'm still convinced he did it) wanted to kill three of the bus riders, Peter Fererre, Marcos Oliveres and Cassidy. The 'mayor' was the one who picked the classes/clubs that would be on the field trip so that allowed him to get his victims where he wanted them.
I think Curly told Woody how he rigged the 'Long Haul' truck stunt over drinks or something. After the crash, Curly realized that Woody must have done it so Woody made the calls to the PCHers to get rid of Curly.

I don't doubt Woody is behind the crash. But i'm not thinking in terms of the young boy theory as much as the whole updating the police force for better real-estate. In the FBLA club they were discussing positive changes to Neptune. And one mentioned was a new, better, police force. What better way to get that vote then putting scum behind bars the kill kids on busses (even if you are the one that caused it). And let's be honest since Keith stopped being sherriff the town as gone downhill. And before Logan walked into Woody's office, he was on the phone talking about the real-estate again. Sell more real-estate with better police protection for the 09ers.
Sherriff: Somone parked in my spot again, have their car tow'd.
Deputy: It's the Deputy assistant to the mayor's car.
