I believe the cliché is, "when the sh*t hits the fan." Seeing as how this first season of Thief is only clocking in at six episodes, it was expected that we would be seeing that happen rather quickly. Last night, it did. There's poo everywhere, and Nick is unfortunately right in the middle of it all.
We left Nick in the wake of his wife's untimely death. To compound things, he had just shot an ex-member of his crew (Izzy) right in his own backyard. And to top it off, his stepdaughter witnessed the killing. His crew disposes of the body but not everyone, Jack especially, is dealing well with what just happened. Interesting angle, right? A thief with a conscience.
After making arrangements for Wanda's funeral, I found it odd that the priest just visited the Atwater residence. I found it even odder that Tammi so willingly got on her knees for confession; she just didn't seem like the religious type. Even so, now more than one person knows what Nick did in his backyard a few nights ago. I really got a kick out of the priest at the memorial service the next day. The way he kept prodding Nick about "whether or not he had something to confess" was funny stuff. It made me chuckle, anyway.
As you would expect, Tammi is on edge. Her mother is dead and her father doesn't seem to give a crap about her. That leaves Nick as her sole guardian now. She doesn't even know him and finding Nick's fake passport ID doesn't help. If there was any more lingering doubt at this point as to whether or not she actually saw the shooting, then refer to the end of the funeral. Nick and Tammi got in a fight and she dropped the classic, "Well at least I don't shoot people." I know I've used that as a witty comeback plenty of times. She knows and the rest of team is not comfortable with that, especially Elmo. Gabo, I'm not so sure about him yet. He seems to be the most laid-back.
Nick still feels bad about how the team got screwed on the last heist. They stole some extra cash from the Chinese mob and the crew's financier, Ros, made them return it. Well, the Chinese were pissed anyway and they sent a man to find out who robbed them. He showed up and found Ros. But she wouldn't give up any names. In the end, right before she took a bullet in the head, Ros remained loyal to Nick. The team still has one more heist to pull off, without Ros' financial help, so the upcoming episodes could be tough for them to get things together.
One thing I'm not really enjoying about the show is the whole cop angle. What the heck is the point of Detective Hayes right now? So he's a dirty cop? Beyond that, I'm not so sure he really needs to be around. He can offer help to the Chinese, but couldn't they get the info on their own? Unless Hayes turns sides and blackmails Nick, to protect him from the mob for a fee. That would make sense at least. I'm not so sure about Tammi either. With four episodes left, is she going to warm up to Nick as a father? I doubt it, but you never know.
Next week, the heist enters its beginning stages. I wonder if they'll be able to pull it off with one less man (Izzy) on the team.

Well, I'm sure Detective Hayes is going to figure into the action in a very big way. The nice thing about six episodes is that they're able to get the entire story arc nailed down before shooting, so you won't see any characters or plotlines dangling they way full-season shows (I'm looking at you, Alias), tend to.
I also think the question of whether Tammi told confessed all she saw is still open. It seems like they were very intentionally vague about what she told the priest, and they wouldn't do that without intending to to get capitalize on it later.

Any show with Andre Braugher will be a success if given half a chance. He is a great actor.

I can't believe they just killed off Linda Hamilton like that! I thought she was a regular character, dammit!
