Wayne and Aaron come up with some scheme on how to schmooze around the Vice President, who everyone seems to think is the shady character this season, going as far as hiding Wayne's injured left hand when he goes to shake the Veep's hand. He thinks something curious is going on, and it's only natural that we, the viewer, think he's shady due to his actions over the last few hours, especially with regard to martial law. Weren't we in for a surprise, though.Evelyn, Mrs. Logan's assistant, has had her daughter kidnapped by Henderson in retribution for Evelyn's knowledge of what was going on in the White House and who was behind this whole plot to kill Americans. Before getting into the nitty gritty, this makes me really really think that Walt was killed, and didn't kill himself. I could still be totally off base here, but now everything somewhat comes together, leaving only a few possibilities of who knew what, and when. Wow, sounds like reality.
It didn't take too long for Jack & Co. to get down to the body count. As he helps Evelyn with a plan to get her daughter back and try and save the evidence that Henderson so eagerly wants to snag, Jack gets Wayne ready to roll, and the pair take out a few baddies both up close and from afar, including just as the deal goes bad and Henderson calls in the sniper that Jack has replaced - with himself. It was no bloodbath, but you knew Jack had to up the tally at some point.
Back at CTU, Audrey has scammed the Homeland people - sort of - by signing the paperwork that would end Buchanan's reign at CTU, at least for the moment, and has somehow gotten Chloe to be able to stay and work with her. After Chloe is somewhat convinced of Audrey's efforts only being done to save Jack, the two had been working to help Jack find out where Henderson's men were at the drop. I'm feeling better that Audrey isn't behind all of this, at least at this point, but that doesn't mean that something won't come of her mention from Collette's mouth two hours earlier. And if it's not Audrey that's involved, then there is always the chance that her father is in on it, especially now that we know that Gardner isn't at the root of all this, and that President Logan is.

This impossible twist (nothing new on 24) has just opened some gaping holes on the plot. Here's hoping they can explain rationally what the hell just happened.

Our cable went out last night and we didn't get to see this episode. Anyone know where I can find a copy or a download of this episode?

Anybody else completely shocked about last night's ending?
Suddenly, I sorta have a weird sense of respect for the guy. I mean it must be hard to pretend to be so completely inept while at the same time being a criminal mastermind. Good game!

Yeah, I'm pretty confused about the whole conspiracy, too. What is his motivation for doing this? Not to look like a weak president? That's all I can think of, other than him actually being Osama Bin Laden in disguise.

They have plenty of time to explain Logan's involvement in the plot.
It's not something you can take at face value, you have to see how it plays out before we can really judge this twist.
I kinda want to go back and examine Logan's actions this season. He's been pretty detrimental to hindering the nerve gas.

Well, just a guess here, but could they be saying the President of the United States acts like a bumbling fool in public but is really an evil mastermind, and is using his supposed bumbling to take more and more power for himself, and by attacking his own country, he'll be able to, I don't know, get the public behind unnecessary wars against the (non)perpetrators, rake all kinds of money in for his powerful buddies, and sidestep some of that oh-so-dated concepts of the Constitution that limit his authority? Just some random thoughts that could be motives behind this "fictional" President's actions.

well sure, we'll have to see how it plays out, but dramatically it was a lackluster move. it felt like this episode was written by someone who hasn't been watching the show. evelyn's daughter/crisis appeared only to service the plot, and the supposed shock moment of revealing the president raised more of a '...huh?' than anything resembling shock or surprise. one of the joys of the shows is seeing how the writers rise to the challenge of writing a show by the seat of their pants. this week, the wires were showing.

The VP can't be on it. If he was in on it, why would Logan act stupid when Gardner told him Wayne Palmer was on the grounds? He'd have no need to play dumb around a co-conspirator.
The only other person who knew Palmer was coming to the retreat was Agent Pierce, I believe.

Henderson could have had Wayne followed and when they told him he was heading toward the retreat, Henderson alerted the prez who in turn allowed Hendersons men through the checkpoint to take him out.
I am guessing that the original plot that Walt confessed to was the same plot the president planned. One to set off the nerve gas in Russia to secure a deal on fighting terrorism and securing oil in that region. Being the crafty man we now know he must be, he probably kept his involvement in the plan known only to Henderson in order to keep himself from blame in case it soured, which it did. This explains his acting surprised, but yet giving into Walt so easily after he "discovered" the plot.

I felt the same exact way Ryan. Which is probably why I was more surprised it turned out to be the prez.

It could be that Henderson is playing both the Pres and the VP. He may have them both working on something different - playing to each of thier wants. Its possible neither knows the other is working with Henderson and thats the way Henderson wants it. Kinda like 2 ways to get whatever the goal is or 1 way to one goal and 1 way to som other goal.

Henderson isn't "playing" anyone... I believe this is Logan's plot, and Henderson is so gung-ho about the USA that he will risk everything to fulfill the President's wishes, as long as the President says they are "in the best intrests of the country." Henderson is blindly following command from someone he adores, in my opinion. Just think- this is the first time he is working for the US Gov. since he was fired.
The VP was shown to be waaaaay too much of a slimeball to end up the actual villan, and Pierce was worried about Palmer, so I doubt he had any planning with the attempt to kill Wayne.
Can't wait till Monday
