Did someone put
something in the water that the Santos campaign workers are drinking? Everyone's hooking up! Lou (Janeane Garofalo) and
the 23 year old campaign worker; two women who work on the staff; even...Josh and Donna! Yup, even they go off to Josh's
hotel ro...HOLY CRAP, LOOK AT JANEL MOLONEY IN HER UNDERWEAR!!...room. Later in the day Matt and his wife get into the
act, waiting for numbers to come in.Are they sure the title of this episode isn't "Erection Day"?
Santos is doing very well, in the north, the south, even California. So well that Josh thinks the numbers don't add up. He kinda freaks out about it - in a scene that seemed to come out of nowhere, frankly - but Donna tries to get him to calm down because there's nothing else he can do now. He's been working 18-20 hours a day for months, and it's time for the voters to have their say.
Meanwhile, Charlie carries a ton of job offers for C.J. She's not sure what she wants to do. Charlie wants to continue to work with her in some way.
Will tells Kate that he might be interested in going back to California to help political candidates in small elections. Kate wants to stick around and help the next President - "whoever he is" - get through Kazakhstan. Will asks her if she voted for Vinick. She doesn't answer.
MSNBC reports that Vinick wins Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Santos wins Pennsylvania and South Carolina. It's still too close to call. It's going to be a long night.
And the episode ends with Annabeth going to Leo's room and finding him on the ground. The Secret Service rushes in and 911 is called...

The season is certainly hitting it's peak. I finally had a chance Friday night to get caught up on all my episodes and I couldn't put the TiVo remote down. Watched tonight's live and I was aching for the fast forward button. Before I knew it the show was over.
The end with Leo... had me choked up a bit, even though I was expecting it.
Josh and Bruno seem to be having mini-breakdowns - it's no wonder Bruno's election-day routine includes a sexy woman. (You forgot to mention Bruno as you were running down your list of folks who were getting lucky.) Think Josh is getting better care from Donna in that respect however.
And yes - I too was quite in awe seeing Donna... WOW!
So now quite a bit saddened that the show isn't getting picked up. Given the season prior to mid-January I could understand why - but these last few episodes have picked it up big time.
I'm looking forward to next week and the impact of Leo's death on the election. Looks like there will be one. Thank you to John Spencer! He is missed.

I thought John Spencer had filmed more than 1 episode before he passed away, i only recall seeing him in the episode before his debate.
Anyone know how many more episodes there are this season? Like 3?
And about freaking time for Josh and Donna, no? I hope that they stay togther and get married, i think that that much time spent longing over each other had better not end badly.

Ryan: yeah, I had heard that too, that he had filmed a few episodes. I thought he'd been in more, but maybe they just didn't work out because of what eventually happened so they decided to delete those scenes and change things around.

This episode just didn't do much for me...besides Janel in her underwear. Very nice sight indeed.
I too did get a little choked up at the end even though I knew it was coming.

John Spencer's Leo was last seen in "The Cold" on March 12. The President personally called Josh to tell him to bring Leo to the White House after Josh had just told a scheduler at the White House that he wasn't going to have Leo go to DC.
We were fortunate enough to get one final Leo episode for the VP Debate, and it was a real good episode.
The next two episodes didn't leave much room for Leo - or they were rewritten that way intentionally - I'd assume the latter.
Still curious as to whether this will have an impact on the election. Twice there was mention tonight about the fact that "publishing raw exit poll data was irresponsible" or could impact the election by drawing out support for a losing candidate, or keeping voters for a candidate who appeared to have the election "in the bag" at home. They also made a couple of references to the fact that a lot of people don't vote until they get home from work...
With the amount of press surrounding the hotel they're at, an ambulance and a lot of secret service activity will gather attention... especially since the press knows that Santos is at home, not at the hotel.
Could we see the election swing to Vinnick on Leo's death? Or a surge of sympathy votes for Santos?
dum-dum-dummmmm... (oh, and who did our little NSA advisor vote for? and will Will have a problem if she DID vote Republican?)

Leo's death can't affect the results of the election because as Bruno said the polls had closed all over the country (except for Hawaii and Alaska).
I tried to watch the show twice and missed the "hook-ups" and Janel in her undies both times - once because I was cooking supper and once bcause my west coast feed was thoroughly pixellated. Merde!

Excellent episode, but the writers of the show dropped the ball when they chose to kill off Leo in last nights episode. If memory serves me correctly the season began with several of the Bartlett Administration meeting with the new President for a public event that Leo was present at. Last nights turn of events contradicts the possibility of that. Other then that minor flaw it was an excellent show. :)

HOLY SCHNIKEYS! As I watched this ep. over again, I noticed the tension betwixt Josh and Donna was a little more pronounced than I imagined it to be the first time through. At least after the overnight stay. The matinee escapade was a little more comfortable for them, I think. As an aside, how about Ms. Moss, eh? She's had a taste of Josh, and apparently she likes what she got. Suggesting a little afternoon delight like that. We like it!
Lou and the speech writer-boy, the L-Word's representatives, and who was the gentleman who packed it in first at the bar? Him and his squeeze. Then Josh and Donna, Mr. and Mrs. Santos, and Bruno and his election day ritual. There is a theory that holds that there was even a Leo-Annabeth conjugation that led to the cal for 911. Now wouldn't THAT just put a crimp in your lifestyle?
I was also quite pleased to see that my home state of Missouri was still in play on both big boards. Being a blue man in a red state causes me some distress. Seeing it as white on both boards gives me hope.
Also, Mr. McKee, I believe that Bruno was responding to a statement that all the polls were open except for Alaska and Hawaii. Then there was the obligatory "who cares" statement, and then the slap at Idaho. I could be mistaken.
All in all, a good episode. It was no Two Cathedrals, but a nice continuing episode.

Bob: Its funny how EVERYONE remembers Leo in that scene (Its more funny how someone brings it up EVERY week it feels like). Good post tonight. I'd be lying if I said that I really didn't appreciate my TiVo this week. There's that little 8 second rewind button... I've always known Janel Maloney was a beautiful woman, but wow.
So, it seems that all of the main players in the Santos campaign er... releaved some stress this week. Except for Bram. Gotta feel sorry for that guy. (Also leaves you wondering how far Leo and Annabeth's relationship progressed prior to his heart attack).
Bill: I have to disagree. I think that this has been a strong season from the first episode. Most seemed to be caught up in looking for certian characters who had less episodes, but I think its been a great season. I just rewatched the first several episodes, and several early ones stand out (Toby confessing as an example). I mean, none had the quality of last year's '90 Miles Away,' but I'm just saying :)
Yeah, its time for my weekly lamenting on how good this show has gotten this season for it to be cancelled. You've got to wonder with its critical resurgance, if it had stayed on Wednesdays, would the ratings have come back as well? I guess all is well with the Aaron Sorkin reunion tour that is Studio 60, I'll be in pretty good shape next season (I know finding a spot for Janel Maloney would be pushing it, but, ya know.... I also wonder if we're going to have our favorite sound and vidoe guys from Sportsnight/Press Corps from West Wing back in the both (I know "Katie" will be in the Mauren Dowd role, but I'm talking about the SportsNight guys. I think there's probably several openings for recurring characters in the Studio 60 control booth).
I digress. I did have a major problem with this episode. Josh seemed to do this whole breakdown thing. And while that behavior isn't atypical of Josh, we saw him being the calm in the storm last week. As much as I'm looking forward to the next two (three?) episodes and how they handle John Spencer's passing, I will hate to watch Josh live through that. First his sister in the fire, then his father the day President Bartlet wrapped him the Democratic Nomination, and now his surrogate father Leo on the day he gets a little known Texas Representative elected President.
At least he has Donna.

I thought Josh losing it was perfect -- Election Day is the day the strategists lose control of the process they've been spending months trying to keep control of... The only character that seemed a bit unfocused and lost was Santos, actually.
Oh... and for anyone who has worked night-and-day for a political campaign... it does create some strange bedfellows. I think that whole piece was an insider nod to anyone who has ever spent 18 hour days on the trail.

While I was suprised with everyone's hook-ups, was anyone else paying attention to the sudden hints for next weeks episode besides Leo's death? The writers were giving hints as to who won the election. Think outside the box and oh by the way...next Sunday isn't the last episode - you watch, there's a shocker coming.

Chris: I've heard the same (went to school to get into Politics, but lost interest upon graduation). Again, its sucks to be the body man.
Leo: I've said (and posted) in last weeks comments that the spoiler for who wins is out there (And I think it follows your hints, though I think you misread that conversation... I think that they're setting up the possiblity for a "Too Close to Call" scenario for the end of election night, but I think it will be called by the end of next week's episode.
However, who becomes the next SecState might suprise a few, so that may be your shocker.

Wow! Janel/Donna is one hot momma! Does anyone have any screenshots of her?
This was a good episode, because it shows what it is like when all the campaigning comes to a climax and then boom . . . all of a sudden for a few hours, there is absolutely nothing you can do.
I will be watching Bravo tonight (Monday at 8 PM Eastern) to watch this episde again. And of course, I can't wait to see what will happen next week.

Regarding Leo's last appearances: It seemed to me, watching the show before "Election Day" (can't remember the title) that all the strategy scenes with John Alyward (who was the head of the DNC, and who is better known for being on ER in its early years) seemed like they had been written for Leo instead. He's giving sage advice on campaign strategy--Leo's role. I'm pretty sure the episode was filmed after John Spencer's death, not before. It was a very smooth substitution, but it seemed like a substitution to me.
As far as this one goes, I was disappointed that they didn't call it "Election Day, Part 1"--I was hoping it would finally be over when the episode ended. Now it turns into a long night...
I thought, at least up until the last 2 elections, that the candidates always know by the afternoon, based on exit polls. I guess the point was that exit polls are useless now.
I also liked the way that Santos was able to relax finally--those were good scenes after the chaos of the last few campaign episodes.
I also can't understand why you'd pay Allison Janney and Dule Hill (there he is! Don't blink!) to be in the episode and then only give them those 2 short scenes. I'm really tired of the White House scenes consisting of Will and Kate. It's just not the same place anymore, with everyone good besides C.J. and the President gone. Realistic for the last few months of a presidency, though, I guess.
I'm looking forward to the last 6 episodes, especially with all the returning people (and SAM! SEABORN!)
