Adult Swim has announced some new shows that will be coming down the pike later this year, as well as some of the old standbys that'll be returning. Here's the rundown:

First off, we have Brendon Small's (Home Movies) new series about a heavy metal band, whose official name is now apparently Death Clock Metalocalypse.

The team who created Sealab 2021 is also returning with a new show called Frisky Dingo, about a super hero and a super criminal who aren't always that intrested in fighting one another.

Comedian Jon Benjamin, along with Carl Adams and Matt Harrigan, has created Assy McGee, which will focus on a cop who looks like an ass... literally. Speaking of Jon Benjamin, I was glad to see Lucy, The Daughter of the Devil will be added to the new lineup, after being teased with just one episode last year. Benjamin plays The Devil on the show.

The show that sounds the most interesting, at least visually, is Saul of the Mole Men. The series, about an explorer who almost destroys a race of mole men, will combine animation, live-action, and puppets. I'm intrested to see how this one will look.

As far as combos of live-action and animation go, we can look forward to the return of Tom Goes to the Mayor in June (rather than March, obviously, which was previously reported). I know a lot of people don't care for Tom, but I think the show's creators, Tim and Eric, have concocted a surreal comedic approach that both rivals and transcends the old and new "rules" of what comedy is supposed to be. I know, I'm gushing, I just really like the show.

What else? Well, Robot Chicken is returning, as well as Family Guy (of course), Aqua Teen (naturally), and The Venture Brothers, Squidbillies, 12 Oz. Mouse, and Harvey Birdman.

I couldn't help but notice The Boondocks was absent from the list, though this claims the show has been picked up for a second season. Even though the show wasn't able to grab me enough to make me keep watching, I'd like to see it stick around. While I'm not always impressed by what Adult Swim offers, I think it's more important they continue to release shows that are stylistically unique. The point, I think, is to try and have something for everyone.
