Where to begin? Since I posted this photo of the door map from Wednesday's Lost, a lot of people have done a lot more deconstructing and, in some cases, translating of it.
The folks over at The Hatch Online deserve a round for translating all of
the Latin (although, I don't know any Latin so I can't verify it's authenticity). As you can see in the above graphic,
it looks as though five hatches were, at one time, connected to each other and to something in the middle. We see that
there is a hatch called The Flame, to the left of The Swan hatch where the Losties are hanging out and washing clothes.
We also see The Staff hatch, which is the medical hatch that Claire, Kate and Danielle discovered a few episodes back.
There are two more hatches without a label that our castaways have not discovered. Is that where The Others are
staying? Also, is the concrete that Sayid and Jack found used to block the tunnel to whatever is in the middle of the
hatches? Near The Flame hatch, someone has written 'Alleged location of aborted #7: Each number of Heavy water table.'
Yeah... I don't know what that means.
There is also a little clue on
the bottom right of the map about what the heck a polar bear is doing on a tropical island. It says, 'Accelerated
De-territorialization of Ursus Maritimus (Polar Bears) through gene therapy and extreme climate change.' I guess the
polar bear is there just like everyone else: he's also part of some grand experiment.
In tiny, tiny writing on the lower right hand corner of the map
is this little tidbit, "known final resting place of magnus hanso / black rock." Does that mean Alvar Hanso is
buried on the island? What is 'magnus'? Is it a title for Alvar Hanso or is it a different member of the Hanso
family?
Finally, near The Flame hatch, is a reference to 'Cerebus',
the three-headed dog who guarded the entrance to hell. This plays to the theory that the Losties are all in hell. The
writing on the wall says, 'Cerebus station believed to have been abandoned to an .mgd incident of 1985', and 'possible
catastrophic malfunction of cerebus system.' Is the black smoke (aka the island's security device) Cerebus?
What else have you noticed on the map?

FYI, there's a good quality version of the map in this week's Entertainment Weekly. Time to bust out the ol' magnifying glass!

The three-headed dog who guarded the entrance to Hades is Cerberus. Cerebus is the comic book character created by Dave Sim.

Man, you're way behind: http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Blast_Door
I'd contribute any additions you have to that page, but it's been pretty much fully dissected at this point. Once the EW scans were released, people *really* started going nuts :D

I was looking through the post and came up with a theory. Now we know that each hatch is represented by a symbol - a hieroglyph. I'm think along the line that when the countdown reaches 0 then the bungers get activated (smt like a power up!) The counter then shows the status of the bunker (like a green light - ready to go). Now bear with me a litte more. Not all bunker would be involved, that makes sence because some of them are for living or entertainment. They where/are all connected to give power to the "?" experiment. A weapon perhaps or a energy discharge. The countdown acts like a synchronization device so all bunkers activate at the same time. The lockdown is puzzling because if you are locked in the room, how do you press the button???
Just my thoughts...cant wait till next week!

Great work on the map(s).
I like the theory about all the sites being connected but i think it's to prevent or maintain something rather than activate it.
As for the lock down i thought that was easy to explain.
The lock down was there to stop people from leaving the hatch (bunker) while the parachute re-supply was in progress.. which also means that someone is monitoring what's going on on the island.
Btw, where does the power cable that sayid found on the beach come from? something submerged off the island?

Thanks, Osiris. I totally agree with you on the reason for the lockdown. We didn't hear any of the countdown information, which probably included instructions about what to do with the computer and so on. Remember, there were supposed to be 2 people in the hatch: so one probably went to get the food drop while the other manned the computer. Why lock it down? I dunno.

It's all claer now.
Lost was/is the original TV reality show with subjects (unbeknwn to themselves) thrust upon the island in several tranches. Their tribal beahavior is then monitored over a couple of decades with the plane crash being the last tranche.
Hidden in the trees are the camera crews;) It's all gone madly wrong as the newtwork canceeled the show years ago and abandoned the players and the crews. All typical of the heartless actions of networks when they cancell shows.....;)

heavy water is "Heavy water is deuterium oxide, or D2O or 2H2O. Its physical and chemical properties are similar to those of light water, H2O, but the hydrogen atoms are of the heavy isotope deuterium, in which the nucleus contains a neutron in addition to the proton found in the nucleus of the hydrogen atom. This isotopic substitution alters the bond energy of the hydrogen-oxygen bond in water, altering the physical and chemical properties of the substance. Gilbert Newton Lewis isolated the first sample of pure heavy water in 1933." (Thanks wikipedia)
so radiation is involved here somehow

maybe the large '?' in the middle is a large electro magnet which powers all the other stations.
also how big is the Island and is it definatly an Island maybe its connected to a mainland and the plane didnt really crash in the pacific but somewhere more civilised like south amereica

"Magnus Hanso" indeed means "the great Hanso," whatever THAT means. In Latin, directly under "The Pearl" is the ancient sailor's warning "here be dragons."
Now as a biologist, I translate the following abbreviations with a bit of a bias: D.I.H.G. is "Dharma Institute of Human Genetics"; A.H. refers to accelerated healing processes; R.V.s are retroviruses; M.D.G. is molecular developmental genetics; and the C.V.s are cryogenic vaults. The large chamber with "seemingly heavy water table" suggests a deuterium problem... highly odd, but the result of a leaking reactor container.
See where I'm going with this?

The annotation following "ALLEGED LOCATION OF ABORTED #7" is not 'Each number of heavy water table". It is "Large number of underground springs / heavy water table". So, nothing to do with heavy water / deuterium; just that the ground is too wet for successful excavation,

I think D.I.H.G. survey team means Dharma Initiative/Hanso Grant survey team, referring to the money Alvar Hanso put up for the project.
Also, the medical station is named Caduceus Medical Station. The word caduceus is well known to medical personel. It is a symbol of a short rod entwined by two snakes and topped by a pair of wings, which is actually the caduceus or magic wand of the Greek god Hermes (Roman Mercury), messenger of the gods, inventor of (magical) incantations, conductor of the dead and protector of merchants and thieves. There are occult associations with the caduceus.

the notation "...Heavy water table ..." could possibly be a reference to the use of deuterium oxide, a chemical compound similar to regular water. It has several uses, among which are 1) nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy [which provides detailed information about th three dimensional structor of biological molecules, has also been used to build elementary quantum computers], and is used for nuclear shielding; 2) neutro moderation, a procedure used in the production of weapons-grade uranium; 3) metobolic rate testing in humans and animals ... all three of which certainly fit in with the whacky events that have taken place or have been suspected or seen by the "losties". While Heavy water does not exist in nature and must be humanly produced, the use of the word "table" in the notation might mean that a natural source of Heavy water was found in that area.
