Once again, lots of things happen. Christina (Julianne
Nicholson) is heartbroken over an emotional case involving a dead baby, Billy (J. August Richards) is trying to keep
his perfect record in the courtroom, Cabot (Stephanie March) and Steele (Anson Mount) get it on, Potter (Jordan
Bridges) grows some balls, and Peluso (Eric Balfour) hounds the beautiful but icey girl in the office. By the way, did
anybody catch why the title of this episode is 'Savasana'? I don't get it.Well, Billy is a jerk. In his personal life and his work life. He sleeps with a girl who turns out to be a clerk and then totally shrugs her off when he sees her in the courthouse. But, even worse than that was his attempt to get a woman to drop her 1974 rape case because it wasn't a slam dunk for him. He tells the rape victim, "I don't want to put you through any unnecessary pain." Grrrr.
Billy does step up when the rape victim tells him to continue with the case. Even though he can't get the guy on
rape, he pursues a burglary charge and then gets another rape victim to testify in the sentencing hearing. I was
totally confused about what he was doing. Then, it turns out the rapist went to jail for 7-12 years for stealing a
cheap necklace. We learn that Billy did it all for himself, not the victim, as he tells the law clerk when they go out
to a victory dinner. He's undefeated in the courtroom. What a jerk.
And I still totally adore Christina
Finn. She gets beeped while in yoga class to go to a hospital where a baby appears to be the victim of shaken baby
syndrome. On the fly, a hospital judge in a termination hearing unfairly asks Finn whether The People recommend
termination of the baby's life and Finn is forced to agree with the objective medical experts. The father is charged in
the murder and Finn has to talk the mother, who is pregnant with child #2, into testifying against him.
Eventually, the father admits his guilt to Finn and Steele and pleads to a reduced charge (I think- it all got
confusing to me in the end). Finn gets into trouble, though, for making an abortion appointment for the teen-age
mother. She goes looking for emotional support from Peluso, who can't drown in her sorrows because he finally landed a
date with the hot ice queen in the office. Then, as she's arriving home alone with Chinese food, Peluso is on her
steps. Turns out he got ditched by the ice queen (or did he?) and he takes Christina out to dinner. I hope these two
never sleep together. The sexual tension here is sublime.
In a very small and insignificant sub-plot, ADA
Nick Potter is getting a bit cocky, isn't he? He's pursuing a bar fight and, against Peluso's wishes, he refuses to
plead it out and gets a judge to allow a previous fight as evidence in the case. He wins.
Oh, and we learn
the obvious truth. Alexandra Cabot and Jim Steele used to sleep together. And when things get heated, they do it on
Cabot's desk. Jim thinks they're back on, but Alexandra gets engaged to her boyfriend instead. These are some seriously
messed up people in this Bureau. Good thing they don't hold anybody's lives in their hands. Oh, wait...

The reason why this episode called Savasana because that is the 'corpse' posture that Finn was in when she gets the call in the beginning of the epidsode.

Savasana is the Yoga pose Christina was doing when she got beeped. Its also called the corpse pose.

The first time I noticed the word used in the episode is when Finn went to look at the baby, she wispered it. When I did some research, its also the Yoga position that she was going into when her pager went off:
"the experience of savasana is simply a rest... "

I love how Steele seems to be the girl in all his "relationships". He keeps wanting more from the women he sleeps with but they just want a booty call ;) Just take the booty and shut the hell up.
And that desk sex thing... the most awkward.scene.ever. Seriously, there's a reason Dick Wolf doesn't allow graphic relationshippy scenes in Law & Order universe and after having to see that one, I'm in total agreement. They just shouldn't do it at all. Let us use our imagination and just throw us innuendo that someone sleeps with someone else. Pretty please!

I have to agree with spongy on this one. Anson Mount and Stephanie March, while competent actors in their respective roles, have NO chemistry together. The whole relationship side of this show is really starting to bug me. It's seems like the writers are going for Grey's Anatomy meets Perry Mason and it's just not working. I have absolutely no idea what a DA office is like, but this seems just TOO unreal. Granted, like Grey's Anatomy, you have suspend belief in some respects, it is a TV show after all, but unlike Grey's these relationships all seems forced for the sake of creating drama, not integral to the show. The one bright side of this show is that Steele got used like he uses so many women, and J. August Richards finally got some courtroom action. I still say they could cut two, or maybe three, characters and still have a great show. If they got rid of Jordan Bridges and Milena Govich I think the show would only be stronger. With this series, Wolf and company seem to want to explore the relationships outside of the courtroom as much as in. With a smaller cast, that would be much easier.

Jimmy: I disagree, I like most of the characters on the show, I just believe that their relationships (or most of them) need to be written better. Case in point: I like Milena Govich's character... I liked her in court, I liked her with her family, but I just don't believe her with Anson Mount's character.
The one relationship I like on the show is Eric Balfour and Julianne Nicholson's. Its real, I think, in that he likes her but won't admit it to himself, and wants to keep up his reputation. And I think Nicholson's Finn is an interesting character (that, or I just have a crush... Who knows?)

I've watched all the episodes and also agree that the personal relationships are slowing the show down. Stephanie March is absolutely wasted and must be wondering why she came out of the witness protection program. Eric Balfour always seems to playing a malcontent and this goes back to Six Feet Under. He seems to play the same character in every show. Here he's just too slick for his own good. Julianne Nicholoson, Milena Govich and Jordan Bridges seem like the breakout future stars on this show. But, if the ratings don't improve you have to wonder if it'll be back for the fall or they could move it. They are trying to sample it on Tuesday this week also.
