Daniel Powter probably didn't mean for it to happen, but "Bad Day" will forever be burned into my
memory as the American Idol reject song. It has definitely secured its symbolic connotation with being
eliminated in my mind. I actually heard it on the radio today, and for a moment, I had a passing sensation
that I might get fired when I arrived to work. But I didn't get fired...
Lisa got fired. I'm sorta bummed for her, but we saw it coming. She had been in the bottom three for the past few weeks. If Kevin didn't suck so bad, it probably would have been her last week. When I first saw Lisa during audition week, I actually thought she could make it to the final three, but she just never improved upon that first audition. I don't really feel sorry for her though. I mean, she's still a teen and she's already been on Broadway. Her and Ayla Brown are both in the "forever doin' just fine" club. So, I don't feel too sorry for them.
Ace Young and Katharine McPhee were also in the bottom three...
Nobody was too surprised about Ace, but Katharine's loser status got boos from the audience. And once again, Paula reminded us that it was all our faults for not sitting with the phone on redial for two hours in order to prove we had the McPheever. And so once again, I'll remind Paula to kiss my grits.
I thought Shakira and Wyclef sounded pretty good. Well, I thought Wyclef sounded good. I couldn't really hear Shakira with Wyclef's mic turned up to 11. But...were they lip-synching? Heck yeah, they were. At least Wyclef was, and he was doing it just a mere 5 inches from Simon's face. After Ashlee Simpson, I still can't believe that artists are still lip-synching. If you can't sing live, then just don't sing at all. I would have been perfectly content with simply watching Shakira belly dance for 6 minutes.
Finally, let's briefly discuss the patented Ace Sexy Stare. Now, a few of you commenters have noted that The Ace Sexy Stare plausibly makes cameo appearances outside of the American Idol stage. I'm not going to be as graphic as you commenters (mostly because I'm not allowed to), but let's just say when The Ace Sexy Stare does make an off-stage appearance, it seldom is a face-to-face one. A good point. But, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. You know who else has a similar Sexy Stare? Paris Hilton. Yup, and she uses it at every possible photo op, and you would think that she'd also use The Sexy Stare in intimate situations. But nope. We've seen the video, and we know otherwise. Thus, I'm hypothesizing that The Sexy Stare is used purely for business purposes only. I believe that if you use The Sexy Stare outside of business, you weaken its powers. Now, I don't know this for certain. None of us do. Really, there is only one way to know for certain, and I will be the first one to volunteer for that experiment. I'm not afraid to do a little "research" in order to nail down the facts about Ace.

You obviously missed the best part where Ryan told us about how the idol wannabes got to extraordinary things, like see Ice Age 2.
Hahahaha, oh Ryan, you're so funny.

Did you see Katherine's face when she was picked for the Bottom three!!!!!!!!! I LOVED IT!!! I'll admit it was a shocker,,,, but she sooo deserved that, maybe now she'll come off her high horse and show a little humility -
Goes to show - personality DOES count!! And I loved that Simon knocked her down too - saying it didn't sound as good when he rewatched it (AND.......I'm not JEALOUS, I'll admit she's cute and has a good voice, I just don't like her)
I love the way Shakira dances, but man, did those camera guys blow it - They were ALL over the place and you couldn't appreciate it, or even see half her moves - They didn't need to do that with her -

I don't get a star for retelling my wife's "Ace's 'I'm going to make you 'O' face' comment"?

First off, this was without question the worst week of the season. I am not sure if this is because the song choices were so bad, or if... as I suspect, the music of this century so far basically sucks. I thought that hands down Taylor was the best. He didn't rock the place, which caused some negative feedback from the judges, but he did show off his amazing soul and ability to make even a run of the mill song a pleasure to listen to.
The rest..... terrible. Kat and Paris were the least stinky of the stinky nine, but all need to be careful from now on. Why Kat was in the bottom 2 though is beyond me. Ace needs to go fast. Buck needs to go right after. Then there is room to debate who belongs and who doesn't. As long as Ace and Buck are there it is not American Idol, but American wannabe.

Chris asked for a star - How do you get a star????????
And I agree with BOB - As soon as Ace and Bucky are gone, the competition can begin - It's anyone's chance from there.

The reason this episode was so bad had nothing to do with song choice. It is simply that with Kevin gone the rest of the contestants no longer look good by comparison.
As for Katherine -- she may have a good voice, but she has no edge. She's pretty and talented but horribly boring... for a music star. I'm sure she's lovely to talk to in person, but does she have the depth and uniqueness to make me want to buy her album.
As for Bucky, expect to see Ace and Katherine, at least, go before him. He's got support out there... I don't know why exactly, but he does...

Lisa going was no surprise. Not sure if anyone was watching the Vegas line, but initially she was at pretty good odds (but then so was Ace). I think that in addition to her misfiring voice, she was cocky in the beginning (something like "I expected to be here")
Ace is so done. He doesn't sing well, he looks like a wimp and his hair is stupid.
Kat in the bottom three was a shock. I think she is the most "idol ready" of the contestants. Kelly Clarkson they needed to thin down and stick high heals on. Kat is tall, attractive and can sing. I think it must have something to do with her fan base, as in who are they?
I liked the look of shock on her face. It's the reason I like Idol so much- you can't act that!
Better still is the look week after week on Bucky's face. It's a combination of surprise (he always looks like he expects to go that week), relief and happiness. Time two this week with not being in the bottom three. Can't be duplicated.

Lacy, I don't want to burst your bubble, but I don't get the impression that Ace likes girls that way. He only buddies up to them to steal their hair gel and blush.

I think Kat is an amazing talent, but maybe this will really make her work harder. Bucky and Ace HAVE to go! I think the best of the group are Kat, Paris, Mandissa (how do you spell her name?), and Chris. I don't know who will win, but those are the most talented in my opinion.

Does anyone else feel 'used' by the Wednesday night show format? Each week Fox is all but guaranteed the #2 Nielson slot for this results show, and they use that time to push Fox's Ice Age 2, Shakira & Wyclef, Barry Manilow, etc. What Fox-related product are they gonna push next Wednesday? Prison Break? Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the belly-dance part of last night's show.

In relation to (...)I still can't believe that artists are still lip-synching(...) i have to say that Wyclefff is a rapper, and apart from Jay z, Fort minor, Dr. dre... everyone else lip-synchs (well maybe not but rappers do so) and shakira does too, very OFTEN which is sad... Still does moves are freaggin hot! anyhow.. this season of american idol's not the best of them all... Sad for the girl that went out but hey she's young, she'll be alright..

I just find it so ironic that American Idol, a competition that tries to find the best singer, allows their guest musicians to lip sync. Barry and Stevie didn't rely on a tape to make them sound good. Oh, that's right -- they're true singers. I will admit, however, that Shakira's writhing was kinda hot.

I played the episode a few times and I realized that Eliot's performance ending and the recap at the end of the show were totally different. When he finished his song in the real performance, he just held out the last note; in the video recap, however, he does runs and stuff with his voice.... wtf??? I thought the recaps were supposed to be a direct recording of the performance... OR did the producers not have enough time to make an Eliot clip (he was last)... I'm sure you realized the show was VERY rushed (notice Randy starting his comments super early without letting the audience even clap?)...

hmmm...I always wondered whether they judged from some sort of dress rehearsal which performer to have on first. It always seems to build so nicely to have the best performances sort of gradually build to the best ones at the end.
