The American Family Association, the same group that filed complaints against an
episode of Without a
Trace, have now set their sights on Fox Sports' recent coverage of the Food City 500 NASCAR
race. During the broadcast, which like all of Fox Sports' live events was aired without tape delay, a member of
driver Martin Truex's team called another car "a piece of s---." This isn't the first time drivers or members
of a race team have let blue language fly on the air, and so far complaints haven't helped much, especially when one
considers that only broadcast networks are subject to fines, not cable channels. While I understand people wanting to
keep such language from television during the hours when children are watching, a complete absence of
swearing seems almost unnatural. As BC Beat notes, a sport as
intense and dangerous as auto racing is going to conjure its share of curse words. It seems to be the nature of

i find it ironic that most "family" groups don't really look past the surface when it comes to content for children. Disney for example. i doubt these people would have anything to say about the first movie done "Snow White". a movie that featured a woman demanding the death of a girl for being too pretty, and not just that, but demanding HER HEART BROUGHT BACK IN A BOX. then we have other happy things like a group of angry midgets chasing an old lady off a cliff to her death.
oh but say "shit" and suddenly the world should stop.
in the end i don't get mad at these morons, i get mad at the TV stations who give into them. I'll be angry at Fox if they indulge these pricks and give an "apology" or whatever instead of telling them to go cram it with walnuts.

And we need to ignore them, they're just stupid. Over the air broadcast will always be limited by virtue of the government allocating frequencies, but cable's fine.

What's sad is in the NFL....Blocks SOUND so you can't HEAR what the players are saying....BUT if you see thier MOUTHS....you can READ what thier saying and it isn't HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD!
and another point.......
LAST season and in 2004 during the time my DRIVER GOT DOCKED 25 POINTS FOR SAYING SHIZNET @ DEGA...Speed and NBC were airing Enzite Natural Male Enhancement Drug commericals. WE AS FANS HEARD...how big an ERRECTION gets, how long an ERRECTION lasts and how we need to seek medical attention if an ERRECTION lasts for more than 24 hours. I had to listen to that CRAP every other commerical break......
Now I don't know about you...But I'll explain Shiznet over what an ERRECTION is to my 7 YEAR OLD anyday...anytime. If your an avid fan like me...YOU can't screen the television for commericals such as that? It put me in a situation of having to answer the ultimate question from my 7 year old kid....WHAT IS AN ERRECTION....
Which is more obscene? The S word or a commerical about SEX and errections during (quote/unquote) "Nascar FAMILY time"?

Would it surprise some of you to learn that as a Christian and supporter of the AFA - I think they are entirely offbase on this one?
1. It was a NASCAR race not Sesame Street, and most of the drivers and crew members I've overheard in the garage and pit areas are definitely not choir-boys.
2. Manion was participating in a car-to-crew conversation that wasn't supposed to be heard live, but because of a "glitch" with Fox's equipment, it was.
3. I've been much more offended by sexual innuendos made during prime-time "family" programming - or seeing professional baseball players grabbing their crotch on National TV - than I was by Manion's use of the "s" word.
In today's society, we and our children are going to be subjected to language on television that some may consider offensive - as far as I can see there's only one way to prevent it - its called the off button.
