I'm going to come right out and admit to you
lovely people that I watched the first season of Nashville Star. I voted for Buddy Jewell and I was glad to
see him win. What I like about Nashville Star, is that the singers are required to perform their own, original
songs. That's right. It's not all karaoke. They are also required to write an original song during competition and
perform it (at least, that's what happened during the first season). Many of the performers also play their own
instruments. Despite being a genre of music that I'm not especially fond of, I really enjoyed the originality of the
performers. Especially compared to a certain singing competition that is huge right now.So, tell me. Do you watch Nashville Star?

I love Nashville Star for many of the reasons you cited...AND I love Country music...however this does not make me like the "other" singing competition any less.
Country music had a rich history of musician performers, and Pop music stars have often thrived with a front man that does not play instruments or write music...doesn't make them any less of a talented singer.
Frankly i enjoy Nashville Star for lots of different reasons than I do AI. Nashville Star focuses soley on the top 10, and the talent. The other thing I appreciate is the industry does embrace reality show winners and runners up...Buddy Jewel and Miranda Lambert from Season one are vry successful and played on Radio, as well as AI country success stories, Carrie Underwood and Josh Gracin.
Top 40 radio however, tends to be a bit more snobbish with its acceptance of American Idol contestants. Other than Kelly, most of the other artists fight for credibility on the radio airwaves, even with the record breaking record and concert sales of an artist like Clay Aiken.
Nashville Star is great...it showcases the talent, but does lack some of the drama of an American Idol, in large part due to the fact that there are no terrible contestants that somehow remain when better ones are booted. Without that emotional rollercoaster for the viewer, Nashville Star serves as a fabulous showcase for undiscovered County artists, and less a contest in whih to become truly invested in...heck the show could produce 3 or more chart toppers in the future anyway!

I've been a fan of this show since Season 1, there are some amazing singers out there and quite a few get overlooked. I was kinda bugged to see Erica Jo beat out Jody Evans last season, I thought for sure Jody would win it.

Interesting. I'm no fan of country music, but the way the it was described above makes me want to at least check out the program. If I'm not mistaken, in season 2 of AI they asked contestants to write lyrics for a piece of music in the early stages of the competition, didn't they? That's the kind of thing that would improve that (and other) programs tremendously, so a tip of the cowboy hat to Nashville Star for getting it right.

We watched all the Nashville Star shows all 4 years...Lots of talent on these Shows...Buddy Jewell, John Arthur Martinez, Miranda Lambert. This years talent is also very strong...Our favorite is a wonderfully talented 20yr old by the name of Chris Young! I think he has what it takes to make it all the way!
